ok get this. im totally having this GREAT convo with VG and AB in the shoutbox when an idea for a thread comes to mind. something AB said sparked my idea...

how do you view yourself as far as a 'sterotype'. there are cliques in high school all the time such as 'jock' or 'goth' or 'prep' or 'dork' or whatever. most people, however, say they fit with many different groups...so, i wanna know...

what groups do you think you fit in and why? what about you makes you a part of that group?

I was the Fat Nerd that no one really wanted to talk to until they needed help getting homework done before they got a detention or if they wanted to lay back in science class while i did the boring paperwork for experiments...this also went for other classes were grouped for assignments.

Then later I became the bullied member of class.
Eventually this led to my wonderful final year of highschool where i beat up the guy who had spent years tormenting me because one lunch time he made me drop my dinner.
Irony was, he was also the 'cock' of the year, so by beating him, instantly I was elevated to the Top of the Year but was just as ignored now because people were afraid of me.

School life, ain't it brilliant🙂

I wouldn't really classify myself as just one stereotype because in high school I fit in with pretty much everybody. I was the shy kid sometimes. I was also kinda a bully. Not that I bullied everyone cuz I didn't. I didn't do anything to the nice kids, I mainly just picked on the bullies or anyone else who had it coming. Speaking of, I was also kind of mean but hopefully that changed. People are actually telling me that I have gotten even meaner but I dont think I have. I was also popular and well known by everybody. Which doesn't necessarily mean I was well liked by everybody. I would also say I'm kind of a dork because I can be clumsy or spacy at times. Like in school I always get tangled up in the plants they have in the damn hallway. And I also spend like two or three minutes trying to push a door open when it clearly says pull on it. I was also gangsta because I always wore the fitteds, the shades, the baggy jeans, and everything but I didnt overdo it LOL I was also kind of preppy sometimes. I was also the person that people came to for advice or when they needed help in schoolwork. I always helped of course and usually they got passing grades. Except for that one boy who failed the assignment which caused him to fail the class, stay back a grade, and ended up dropping out of school the next year. Yeah, I still feel bad for that one.

You think you got nicer....listen mate, there is a reason why you got called Visioncu*t...i'm just teasing:)
I hate 'stereotypes' and the whole 'fitting in' thing. If you feel like you should belong somewhere, then be there.

But to stay on topic, I have quite a few 'stereotypes'. I'm part of the stereotypical Goth/Emo/Loner/Punk group, because I'm very antisocial, i dress in black, and listen to goth/metal bands. I'm not one of those really stereotypical goth/emos where all I think about is death and worship the devil. I'm not like that, and neither is anyone else I know that are stereotyped as goth/emo. I'm also a nerd. I have a lot of weird reasons for why, but most would bore you, so you can have that extra five minutes of your life.

I'm also the 'bad student'. I almost never turn things in, except at the beginning of the year to get on their good sides, and then I usually just forget about things I have to do. I fall asleep in classes, and I almost failed last year because of my 'lack of effort'. I was in the 'bad kid' class too. It was pretty fun.

I was the drifter in high school. I fitted in with the jock crowd (lacrosse, basketball, football). I also fitted in with the brainiacs (held a 80% average). I fitted in with the dopers mainly because I toked. I didn't fit in with the nerds but I was friends with them mainly because I stopped the idiots from picking on them, couldn't stand that whenever I saw that! Guess that's why after I got my diploma I ditched college dreams and joined the military. Had to give up hanging out with the dopers whenever I came home though. Oh well they understood and by that time we just went to the bar and they would go outside while I guzzled pints or whisky. lol

Shouldn't that be an 80% average?:silly:

It's difficult to describe myself in high school without sounding like a complete asshole.

I was a victim of my own cruel wit. I have always(since early childhood) had a tendency to be cruel, but I was also unbelievably kind. It was just as I got older people didn't appreciate my kindness, kinda like they were waiting for my next cruel gibe( cruelty is often hilarious to a teenager, unless they're the target). As I got older my cruelty became more prevalent. You wouldn't be wrong to assume I was a bully, I was. I think a lot of that, however, came from the fact that I felt I was superior. Mainly due to me being the brightest in my year, being incredibly athletic, and pretty damn handsome. The problem with that is, I carried that opinion beyond high school, and I quickly came to realise, I was only the best, because my high school sucked. In a different high school, I would probably only have been gifted. Not quite as masterful as I thought I was.

Ten years later I'm still mocking my school pals...lol

People sucked up my ass, but I really think most of them disliked me, they just didn't want to be my next victim.

guess if I spelt better I would have had an 85% average then. lol
In my High School I was voted 'most likely to be institutionalised' and 'freak or unique.' Teenagers are so lovely! All because for a few years in School my epilepsy got bad and I kept on having fits every second day.

My senior year was better, I had a good group of core friends and spoke with most of my year. My friends were all in a band and me not being musical would sit and read while they would practice.

University was a big difference, my first day I made friends with a girl who is still one of my closest friends (even if she does live in Bermuda). I still don't know how but ended up in what could be classed as the most popular group in the year. Everyone knew us and wanted to sit with us and go out to the pub with us. Which for me was strange as it had never been like that at school.

I'm pleased that I never became one of those girls that I hated at school, I still sat in lectures and read my X-Men comics.

Well although my school days are long over with, I was part of the popular crowd at school. Each year had it's own popular group and there were about 5 or 6 of us that were 'it' for our year. I look back now and cringe because I was part of that group. Popular with the boys because they wanted to date us, although we only dated lads who didn't go to our school, usually because they were 18yrs+, and we were popular with the girls but only because they wanted to be part of our clique! Jeez, I'm so glad I grew up & grew out of that phase! Back then, I was too scared to actually be myself, and always tried to conform to what was 'fashionable' etc

In saying that I did actually get on well with pretty much everyone, I was never mean or spiteful, and usually people came to me with their problems, I think in the last year of school, I could of easily had my own agony aunt column 'lol'

I haven't kept in touch with any of my old school friends, except my best friend. Sometimes I see some of my old classmates when I'm in town, and what's really scary is that most still look & act like they did back then, except they have more wrinkles and some have less hair!

If I was at school now, I would definitely not be pigeon-holed into any group, I would just be myself, and hey, if they didn't like it tough, their problem, not mine! 😉

I was technically in the jock crowd, but because of the type of school I went to I guess that put me into the popular category...lots of activities etc

well i dont know.. i hang around my group of friends... we arent nerds... we arent popular we are just friends ... lol.. but i talk to and hang around with like everyone in my grade... i just get along with everyone... i was kinder nerdy in year 8.. but i came out of my shell and yeah.. im in my last year and i just fit in with everyone

I honestly dont know.
I was bullied pretty much every year until 5th year because Im so thin. BUt I did have a fair few good friends.

Then in 4th year all the idiots and people who bullied me left school. So for the last 2 years of school I pretty much got on with everyone. (Mostly the guys though). I wasnt part of their groups though. I had my own group. Me and my friends.

People called me a goth. Nothing to do with what music I liked cos they didnt know. But because my hair was black and my fingernails were black. I had to wear black cos it was school uniform. Even when they called me that though it wasnt in a bullying way or anything.

I was never a nerd really. I was lucky to pass the 2 highers I did. And that was on my second attempt.

I was never athletic and never popular.

Now however, after going to uni, Id consider myself fairly popular (at least with guys. Girls dont like me). Funny seeing people from school now and seeing how people just havent changed. Its been 6 years. You'd think people would change a bit!

I was the one who was left out of everything.....the ignored one.
Bullied i guess cos i never did what everyone else did....go out with boys etc.

I guess having a Domineering mum who controlled what i did didn't help (thankfully i got away) so i had few friends the ones who were ignored too.
I guess i fit in with the cat. of don't go with the flow type.

I've always been shy, but not a geek. A bit of a dork when I was a kid, bullied for a few years but not too bad..
I was never popular, except for a few years 'cause I accidentally became great friends with the most popular girls. I obviously never dated any of the guys though, and I was obviously never interested in them, so I just kept to myself parts of the time.
In high school though, I was really bored with some of my friends, and I kind of started to spend more time with my class and when I gratuated from 12th grade, my best friend was the girl who used to scare the shit out of me and make fun of me when I was in 1-4th grade 😀 We all change eh?

We never had "categories" like that though. My school was too small.

I'm still not "popular". I mean, those things don't really exist anymore but yeah. I'm still kind of shy, but I hang with the funny people, the people who are nice and friendly to me, and I'm fine with that 🙂

i'mma all kinds of stereotype girl lol... i can be a prep, nerd, goth, drama queen all that just depends on the mood i'm in sometimes i even mix and match lol

I suppose it's a cliche to not fit into any of the cliches (or at least think you don't), but I really don't know where I fit. *shrugs*

It seems a fair few of you were bullied. Do you think that's what drew you to Buffy, that whole "high school is hell" mission statement they started with?

This was my nickname, Schillaci, in high school. Sometimes people still call me it. Anyone else still retain their high school nickname?

I guess, if you're going by stereotypes, I was the Goth kid that hung out all the other Goth kids [ZOMG LYK U GUYS DIDNT KNO THAT]. I didn't just hang out with those kids, though - I thought a good 98% of them were pretentious crapwads with a helluva lot of nothing better to do than to walk around in black and proclaim their 'Gothiness'. I, on the other hand, only refer to myself as Goth when I'm making fun of myself. So.

They sort of thught of me as their martyr - seriously not joking. I got nominated for Winter Dance Court [it's like our Sadie Hawkins except with matching outfits] because, quote unquote, "We need on for OUR people up there with the rest of preps." My response? "ARRRRGH [blind rage]". Yea. That about sums it up.

In my first years of shool there weren't that much groups in my class, everyone pretty much hanged with everyone.. It was a small class and things around us with school (like teachers) were pretty messy so we learned to stick together. I I was also very good at standing up for myself back then, but I had some really bad luck with teachers (and other classmates) who really teared down that self-esteem, so I became.. I guess shy and insecure about stuff.

Later on, after a few years of insecureness, not so much real friends and wanting to be with the popular kids I started just not caring about who was popular and who was not, I found some nice people in an other class and who were kind of in the same situation as me, we started hanging a lot and just not give a damn about everyone else at school and what they thought of us.. and I started regaining some of that old self-esteem. These are people I'm still good friends with today.

i dont really know where i fit either. i have never been bullied. i've always hung out with a lot of people. i like having friends. i hang out with some jocks because they're my favorite kind of boys 🙂P) and i was on the dance team from middle school up until last year. im also on student council and was on the prom committee last year. im pretty good in academics too. i usually carry around a 3.4 average throughout the year. i've been friends with the bullies but usually they're just not that fun to be around. i like being in afterschool events and going to any sports event we have. i've been on homecoming and snowcoming court a couple times and im on the yearbook staff this year. i love hardcore music and sometimes wear black nail polish but its not an 'all the time' kinda thing. i guess that really doesnt put me into any particular group i dont think.
