When did you officially become a Spuffy fan? Was there an episode or certain point that turned you away from Angel? Did you ever like Angel whether he was with Buffy or not?

I think I learned to like Spike when he kept his mouth shut about Dawn when Glory had him (that whole "Bob Barker" scene). He showed he truly did care and want to keep Buffy and Dawn safe.

After that point, he sort of just leveled off to a likable guy but for me not as sincere as Angel.

Would Spike have wanted his soul back if Angel didn't exist? Did Spike want his soul only because he may have though Buffy liked that about Angel.

I really like that last sentence!!
well i was always a fan of spike, so him and buffy eventually grew on me.
i was way in to their crazy passion!
i agree, when spike kept quiet about dawn -- kinda saw a new side of spike!

I pretty much always liked him, but the first time I watched the show I kinda liked Angel in the beginning, but as soon as Spike appeared more and more I liked him way better. I don't know exactly when it was that I became a Spuffy fan, it was something that happend gradually from when he helped her in Becoming II to the episode Fool for Love in season 5.. or actually the love just kept growing.

same here!!
I have liked the whole spuffy 'ship since season 5.. as people said spike kept his mouth shut about dawn which showed her cared for buffy.. i didnt like his obsession phase in season 6.. i think it was mostly lust than anything and buffy was using him so that wasnt a real good season for me with the whole spuffy thing.. though season 7 gave me a whole new view on spike... that made me love the spuffy ship more.... 🙂

I dont think Spike wanted a soul cos thats what BUffy liked about Angel. He wanted a soul so he could "be the man she deserves" It had nothing to do with Angel. She couldnt fully trust him before cos he was evil. No matter how much good he did. But with a soul he could be truely good. Be what he thought she needed.

Incidentally, I dont believe thats what she liked about Angel. True, she wouldnt have loved him without a soul (we've all seen Angelus) but thats not the reason. She loved the man he was when he had a soul. Not just because he was a vampire with a soul.

i liked Spike from his very first scene in School Hard, the one with the 'Annoying One' where he went on about feeding on a flower person at Woodstock. admittedly, during seasons 2 and 3 and leaning more towards Spike/Drusilla, i wanted them to get back together. but i know exactly when i started shipping Spuffy...Something Blue. when Willow cast the spell that made Spike and Buffy want to get married, they were so funny together when they were in love, even though it was a spell, you could easily see that it could be real. from then on, i was like, 'Riley who? Get with Spike!'
when i first saw...whatever episode Spike had THAT dream, i thought it was real! i was jumping up and down going 'Yay!!' then Spike woke up,a nd i knew what was going on. kinda bummed me out a little, that it wasn't real, but then i realized that it could lead to more, and i started to majorly love the Spuffy Ship...so much so that it became my favorite ship WAY before their first kiss in OMWF.

i'm not saying that i hated Bangel in the beginning. i hate it now, but that's because we've got Spuffy and Cangel, and those ships are so much better. looking back on Bange, i can see that they never had a very mature realtionship. he might have been 240 years old, but he was still as young as Buffy's 16/17 years. the most mature moment in the Bagel relationship, in my eyes, is during Forever, when Angel comes to see Buffy after her mother's death. thery just sit together under the tree and talk, no pressure...it's only Buffy's griefe(sp?) that makes her kiss him.

wait a second. spike didn't want his soul back. he went through all those trials and whatnot to get the chip removed, except he conveniently never said that. all he said was "give buffy what she deserves" or "turn me back the way i was". now i'm not denying that spike had alot of redeemable qualities pre-soul, but i don't think he ever wanted to get his soul back.

but didnt he say something about wanting to get the 'spark' back?

Spike specifically tells Buffy in S7 that he 'did it for her' referring to his soul...he got his soul back so that he could be the kind of man he thought buffy wanted. a vampire with a soul.

well sure, he's not going to tell her that what he really wanted was the chip removed so that he could become to the killer he used to be.

yeah, i'm with VG. at the beginning of S7, Buffy was really cold to Spike, and he would have taken some pleasure in telling Buffy he actually went to get the chip out, but his plan backfired.
if you watch the season from 'Lessons' to 'Chosen' you can see all the way through that Spike actually did go to get his soul back. even my best friend, who only watches BTVS because i do, and 'cause she wants to be able to discuss it with me, could see that Spike did go to get his soul back.
somebody else back us up on this!

I'll back you up as you are 100% right🙂

The thing that most people seem to forget here is that if all Spike wanted was to hurt Buffy then there was absolutely no reason to go through any trials at all. He could have killed her with or without the chip in his head. It didn't activate for her.

No doubt about it. Spike went to get back his soul.

well said, Arcane.
although everybody knows what the next argument's gonna be, right? and i refuse to be the one to bring it up. lol

If you are thinking what I think you are thinking, Lyri, I'm staying well clear of that one.

Been there, debated that! 😀

i'm scared to say it incase some people think i'm switching sides...but i wanna know what Arcane's thinking, so here we go, put as delicatly as i can.

some people might argue that he wanted to be more like Angelus, and go for the hurt instead of the kill...like going after her family and friends rather than Buffy herself. and for him to be able to do that, he's need the chip removed.

but he went to get his soul back!!
just making my point heard, people!
