I understand Season 1 isn't the most well received season of Buffy, however I feel there were moments in some episodes which hold true to the quality we got to see as the show developed. Normally fans always refer to 'Prophecy Girl' and Buffy's "I don't want to die" monologue, but I think there were some equally good sombre moments fans don't tend to highlight as much which equally show some character depth. For instance, I think Cordelia's mini-speech in 'Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight' is excellent. Up until that penultimate episode, we saw Cordelia as a shallow valley girl with apparently no tact and seemingly devoid of human emotion. But she reveals to Buffy how she "can be surrounded by people and be completely alone." I thought it was great to see a softer and emotionally vulnerable side to Cordelia which tied in well with the episode's plot. What other moments in Season 1 did you really respect in terms of the dialogue, acting ability etc?

I think Willow shone a lot in that season, (Alyson did a great job getting that character), and even though I think "I Robot, You Jane" isn't the best episode ever made I think she made a great performance in that just like most other episodes.

I also love Buffy's desperation to be a normal girl and her subsequent realization that she could never bring a boy like Owen into his life for his own sake in "Never kill a boy on the first date". The moment where she tells him she can't see him at the end is a good one.

Totally agree. I love the hole atmoshpare in season 1. It one of my favorite seasons. Everything there is so colourfull and happy! And the sense of humor is great! And I love the emoticons!

When I read the first few lines, I also thought of that Cordelia moment(maybe I read it in the corner of my eyes and my brain registrered it). Then there's always the I Dont Want To Die monologue, and Willow's They Made It Their World dialouge in PG as well.

And while I don't think the shows quality was that bad, it just had a different tone than the rest of the show, that I didn't prefer. I think. I can't put my finger on it.

Exactly.

To keep on topic, I've always found Season 1 to be full of "hidden" moments. The show was just being born, and you can already see the magic was beginning to show.

Examples:- How Sarah and & Alyson really began to get into their characters almost right off the bat
-The Season finale. In my opinion, it was beautiful (In a vampirish sort of way 😛)
-The overall development of the characters (Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Angel in particular)

There wasn't any forgotten moments, at least to me. It's so amazing to see the Scoobies interact and have fun with each other, as innocent and unscathed as they were. Season 1, as much as the later seasons were techincially "better", had some amazing moments. I think the chemistry between the Fab Four was evident from the start, and while the plots were a little sub-par, the dialogue was as fresh and punny and wonderful as it always is. It's like you can just relax and enjoy season 1 because it's so light-hearted. 🙂

So many great moments in Season One. Some highlights for me:

1) Prophecy Girl -Buffy's speech to Giles but also the conversation between Buffy and Willow in Willow's bedroom.

2) "Macho Macho Man" Buffy singing this in The Witch its hilarious everytime as she bops about the kitchen.. "Macho Macho.."

3) In Nightmares where Buffy experiences her fear about becoming a vampire and The Master's speech about fear. Its a great episode - one of my favourites of the season

4) At the end of The Puppet Show:

WILLOW: Oh, ruler of my country, Oedipus, you see our company around the Altar, and I, the priest of Zeus!

XANDER: Ha, ha! They prophesize that I should kill my father. But he is dead. And hidden deep in the soil. But surely I must fear my mother's bed.

BUFFY: Oh, Oedipus, Oedipus, unhappy Oedipus, that is all I can call you, and all that I ever shall call you.

XANDER: Darkness! And horror of darkness. Unfolding, restless, visitant, sped by an ill wind in haste. Madness, and... Madness a-and stabbing pain, and, a-and, uh... oh... oh... memory of, uh, i-ill deeds I have done.

5) Mr Flutie!!!!!

So many more!!!!

the end scene of The Puppet Show really makes me chuckle!
Is the moment when Angel's cross necklace burns onto him in season 1? I thought that was a beautiful moment. I don't really like season 1 so have only watched it a couple of times. I liked Prophecy Girl though, that was quite a powerful episode. I treat that as the start of Buffy for me.

One of my favorite small moments in S1 was in Nightmares, which was Giles reaction to seeing Buffys grave.

Xander comparing his adorable Tweety watch with Owen's fancy gold pocket watch – it's moments like these that attract me to guys like Xander!

I totally preferred Xander's watch. LOL!

I loved the scene in "The Witch" where Buffy said [to Xander] "You are totally, and completely one of the girls!" (to Willow) "I'm that comfy with him."

LOL!

Also the ending of I Robot...You Jane:
"Let's face it, none of us is ever gonna have a happy normal relationship."

Living Dead Boy
One of the best moments of the entire series, just because of how true it would be later on. :p
I forgot how Buffy was making fun of Giles helping with the talent show until Sydner heard her and she had to join in "Puppet show". That scene is so funny.

I need to watch some season 1.. I really like all of the first scenes with Xander, Buffy and Willow together becoming friends.

I like when Buffy does Cordelia's little quiz thing in the first episode. Actually, I liked that entire scene. That was kind of the only time they acted like friends and they didn't even really know each other yet haha.

When Cordy is talking trash about Buffy, working in the computer lab, and when she and Harmony are finally finished she's like "Oh how do you finish this?"

Willow: "Deliver"
Cordy: "Oh" *presses Delete.... cue face of acute horror*

😀 Such a funny moment

I actually love the comedy in 'never kill a guy on the first date'. Xander and Willows attempted explaination of dier events in front of owen is hilarious, the stuff giles says after and the continued effort to maintain this ruse is hilarious.
