Forrest...GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just noticed that the guy who plays Forrest is Dante in Franklin and Bash.

I didn't mind Forrest all that much. He had more personality than Riley did at times. 😛

Forrest was grating on my nerves from the very beginning. I felt like he was always trying too hard to be cool and smooth, from his dialogue to his mannerisms. I know it's not all the actor's fault, but I seriously hated him, and then once he started hating on Buffy? Let's just say I wasn't too sad to see him end up on the wrong side of an Adam shishkabob.

She was superpowered and uncontrollable. Very anti-army material. Can you not see why he wouldn't be too fond of her?

I'm always surprised by the Forrest hate that I see on here. I didn't love him, but the character worked for me, largely for the reasons Dagenspear cited; and he was easy on the eyes, at least to me. I don't generally give him much thought but I certainly didn't hate him or find him annoying.

oh great...lol...come to think of it...everyone seems to hate dawn when she first arrives. lol. i haven't yet seen season 5, but the moment i mention dawn, the response usually leads to someone mentioning GET OUT!GET OUT! GET OUT!

Maybe i'm just used to the eps or i'm older now so I can understand why Dawn acts the way she acts, but once you understand that Dawn is pretty lonely (she has friends, but you don't see her with them much and she wants to be with her sister so badly, but Buffy wants to be left alone) you don't hate on her so much.

I felt sorry for her in season 6 when I re-watched it last year, where as when I watched it as it aired when I was 12 I just wanted her killed off xD.

While I certainly understand why Forrest didn't care for Buffy I still didn't care particularly much for him. He was there, he served a good purpose but I'm kind of indifferent to him.... until he became zombie-Forrest. Now then he bugged the crap out of me, but then that's not really the actor/character's fault so much as the writers. I really just wish they would have skipped that part it was just, bleh cheesy and not really scary at all. I just kind of felt sorry for Forrest that that would've happened to him.

He is annoying as hell. I like Graham though. Forrest is just so jealous of Buffy for being the center of Riley's life. And in the Initiative of course. She's the man in both, and Forrest can't stand it. Graham on the other hand, even though in the Initiative and Riley's friend, doesn't feel as threatened. He's more light going. He gets that this is the new situation and knows his place.

Buffy wasn't even a soldier. She had NO place with them. That's why Forrest didn't like her. She turned Riley against what he thought was the right thing. IT WASN'T A POWER, SHE'S THE MAN HERE, ISSUE. For God sakes, he took orders from and deeply respected a woman.

Buffy had no place with them because she was a slayer, because they (the Initiative) were doing things right. Buffy just showed Riley the right way. Forrest couldn't take the truth. It was a pride this, Buffy took his place in the play. If Forrest could see the truth, he would have seen that Buffy is right. But no, he was too deep into 'the wrong' and his pride and his jealousy. The only thing Riley did right this season was leave the Initiative, after Buffy. Because he wasn't blinded by Walsh anymore.

Notice how Forrest liked Buffy in the beginning. Because she didn't get in his way of life. Once she started taking things from his life, he didn't like it, even though Buffy is the hero, the Slayer, she knows how to take care of things that she's meant to deal with (demons, vampires, evil...), that those other people are not even meant to deal with, they had no right. It was Buffy's place, not theirs, not Forrests. It was Buffy's territory. They got in HER way, it was her job. And she was better than them, better than Forrest. Because it was hers. That's why Forrest is wrong here.

They both had their place in the situation. Buffy has no "territory." Forrest isn't wrong for not buying the hype of the "Slayer." Would you? You can't blame him for the beliefs he'd been instilled with all his life. The beliefs that HE thought were right and good. And one could argue that, from Forrest's POV, Buffy was the one brainwashing Riley. Forrest had never been given any reason to believe that what he was doing was wrong. He was a soldier, he protected people from what he'd been taught to believe were animals, yeah, he was naive about the situation in some places, but only in the way that ALL soldiers are. The Government is right. His superiors are right. It is not his place to question them. Maybe he wasn't too bright, but, he wasn't bad, and doesn't deserve to be hated for doing what'd all of us, in his exact predicament and situation, would've done.

Forrest doesn't believe in magic or mysticism, or destiny, or superpowered people. Buffy is apart of all that. How can he possibly be expected to accept her right away when he has NO IDEA what she's all about. She's not apart of their group, she's unfamiliar, and he has no knowledge of anything she's about. Why does she hunt demons? Oh, well, because she's supposed to? How can he be expected to undertsand that? Or understand her for that matter? When, from his perspective, Buffy had no right to come in to place where she didn't belong, invading his belief system with her snarky, don't take orders, do what you want, attitude. It disrespects what his whole life and belief system is based on.

This is where I don't agree with you. It was Buffy's business only, she's destined to do this job, not those guys. It was even said in the ending of Primeval, that the project - the Initiative was an experiment that didn't work because they tried doing something they're not supposed to, it wasn't their place to fight evil. It was Buffy's. Like in the cave, where Buffy faught Adam. Buffy warned Forrest, telling him this is her job and he shouldn't be there at all. And here he was killed! Because it wasn't his place. It might have felt like she was stepping into his business, but the truth is, this is her business, and he stepped into her place-her world.

Sorry, but it was pure jealousy of Forrest. He felt like she took his place at some places. But those places are places he shouldn't have been there anyway, they're Buffy's!

Oh, you mean like Xander and Willow and Giles are stepping in where they don't belong. The logic you apply to Forrest applies to them as well. They've never had any place in her business, yet, Buffy not only allows it, but, in some cases, encourages it! What makes them so special? Yeah, I get that Will became a witch later on, but, what about at the beginning, in seasons 1 & 2?

Not to mention that, if being the Slayer was so "her job" then, I must say, she really sucked at her job. She couldn't have beaten the Master without Angel finding her and Xander resesitating her. She couldn't have beaten Angelus and Drusilla, or even found them for that matter, without Spike's assistance. She couldn't have beaten the Mayor without Coma Faith's advice. She couldn't have beaten Adam without that whole essence transerence thing of Giles and Willow or whatever it was called. She couldn't have beaten Glory without Willow, that hammer, and that orb. She couldn't beat Dark Willow, period. And she couldn't have beaten the First without Spike wiping out all those Uber-Vamp's with that amulet. So, yeah, Buffy ain't too good at what she does. It seems like the first thing she needed was someone like Forrest's help.

Either way, it doesn't matter. Forrest doesn't believe in all the crap (from his perspective) that Buffy spews. He doesn't believe in anything mystical, so, how can he possibly be expected to believe her whole, "I am the Slayer. I am great at this. You suck. I am the chosen one." speil. He can't. It spits in the face of all of his beliefs. Just like what he does, from Buffy's perspective, spits in the face of hers. They might be more alike than you'd care to admit.

Thanks. I like to think that I try as hard as I can to view certain things from the character's perspective.

It doesn't apply to them because they're doing it from Buffy's side, they're fighting from her side, they're in her team, they fight together in the same system, they're not another seperated operation that fights demons the wrong way.
And Buffy doesn't always encourage it if at all. When it's too dangerous she tells them that she'll do it alone. There wasn't ever a scene where she says to tell: "you wanna help? that's great! I would love it if you risk your life along with me!" Quite the contrary, she wants them to stay out if it's no place for them. She knows where the limit is, she knows when it's the time to be a Slayer only mission.

Buffy has become a better Slayer BECAUSE of her friends. They gave her a reason to fight. She might have needed their help from time to time, but she's not a bad Slayer. The fact that they helped her doesn't mean she's a bad Slayer, I don't see the connection. They just made her better. And yeah, they saved her life, even if not directly, and it's great that they're there, and they should be there, but not all the time, not when it's not their place (and Buffy knows that). But when they are there, it's because they're doing it right, because they take orders from the Slayer herself. The Initiative relied on information the goverment and scientist told them. It was probably not the right way to go, because it didn't work, and we saw it fail! And Forrest was stuck on the idea that they know best and the Slayer doesn't, even though it's a tradition of thousands of years.

Forrest's help? The one time they tried fighting along with each other he was killed! Needed him? Don't think so. He's a poor fighter, because he does it wrong. The whole Initiative are, because they don't know the demon world as well as they think. That's why the operation failed, that's why Riley drifted, that's why Forrest died.

The common thing between them is that they both fight evil. But the difference, and that's a big one, is that Buffy is doing it right, he doesn't. That's why he was killed by Adam in a really stupid way. Of not listening to the one person who knows what she's doing, because he didn't know best, even if he thought he did. That's the mistake. Buffy IS a better fighter than him, and he can't admit that. He's too full of himself that he doesn't run away from the cave when Buffy tells him to. And he dies in a very stupid way, because he is stupid, thinking he knows better than the Slayer. He doesn't! The two times Buffy died, it was a sacrifice. She lasted longer than any known Slayer because she was surrounded by people that both loved her (and gave her a hang of life), and faught at her side (not seperated from her in a wrong way that failed, because that gang didn't fail, they last till today). Bottom line of this: Forrest just thinks he's a hero. Buffy IS a hero.

You still can't hate someone for their belief system and not allowing that belief system to be compromised.

Lol. Buffy was even mentioned on it in a Halloween episode.

I don't hate him because of his belief system. I don't agree with his belief, but the reason I hate him is because he's annoying as hell.

That's just ridiculous.

well he is! most people think so!
People love and hate for different reasons, I don't think that's ridiculous. Someone being annoying is a good reason to hate them! Do you want me to like him even though I find him annoying? THAT would be ridiculous.

I hated him as a human, I hated him as a human/mutant/cyborg dealie. He's that annoying friend that you keep around only because it'd be awkward not to 'cause they hang with the rest of your group. Obviously, his opinion doesn't matter to Riley. He keeps seeing Buffy. Even helps her kill Forrest.

Graham was awesome. I liked him.

In defense of Forrest I'm gonna have to say that he may have been annoying at times bubt I think he was a good friend. Now naturally, watching Buffy the vampire slayer, we're likely to side with Buffy but imagine you had seen a friend of yours in a new relationship and suddenly their changing everything they are, everything they've believed in and turning their backs on what was. Wouldn't you have voiced your concern?

Now Riley may have changed gradually and perhaps even for the better (depends on who you ask of course) but I can see how Forrest was alarmed by his sudden back-turning on their military ways. It must have been quite startling to find that your best friend is growing into someone fundamentally different from you. And to his credit he spoke up about it, perhaps he was a bit abrasive about it at times but beating around the bush isn't for everyone.

Perhaps it's a big egotistical but who wouldn't also feel slightly wounded by a friend abandoning you for their new significant other (yes, this is a natural part of life but that doesn't make it easier while the transition is in motion).

Riley choosing Buffy over the Initiative must have been very hard for all of Riley's friends actually since he seemed to be a leader of some sort. No doubt they, even Forrest, looked up to him. And again, perhaps his change was for the better - in the viewers opinion - but I can see why the Initiative boys wouldn't agree.
