Episode Discussion Game of Thrones, Season 8

Personally I am finding this season so boring. Probably a few reasons for that. I think this is one of the shows that has really been overshadowed by the hype for me. I find myself caring less and less about it. Like watching week to week is so much more effort than just waiting til its all out haha. I guess the franchise is a bit clever to keep us wondering who'll die next and encouraging fans to spread spoilers so everyone is scared into staying up to date lol.

I found it hard to follow who was on the battlefield. Breanne should have died, I hate the way she screams. It was cute that the wolf is in on it. I am always in awe at the beautiful horses, having horses keep their heads while galloping in a group can be difficult and they all looked so calm and well trained. Im sorry, the giant made me laugh. I know I have to go into this show with a certain level of disconnect and that just became comical to me. I did like Aryas fight scenes, I always have cos she makes it look more like dancing. I am glad she was the one to kill the night king, I think I like the character again 😀

Now for the rest. How many eps left?

I enjoyed Episode 3 quite a lot. I found it very enthralling and tense. I even enjoyed the end quite a lot at the time, but the more I think about it, the more it doesn’t really make sense. Both Jon and Arya go on Hero’s journeys from Season 1-8. Aryas motivation and goal is to kill the people on her list, it’s her reason for being, to avenge her family. I strongly suspected that this would lead to her eventually killing Cersei in a climactic moment-and she still might. Jon’s story has been all about the Night King, since S1. His reason for being has been stopping him, yes he is the rightful king of the 7 kingdoms-but he does not care about that. I can’t see Jon (who was literally raised from the dead to have a purpose) having any hugely meaningful contribution left, and it seems like they gave his big crowning moment to Arya for shock value. It feels like if Han Solo popped up and killed the emporer at the end of Return of the Jedi in front of Luke, it doesn’t work for the story.

Ep4… Cant wait for this to be over lol. I have found I have turned right off it now. I hate myself for being hooked. Brianne should die. I know I was supposed to be all happy for Aryas root but I was more like blugh turn the sop off. Oh, that was strategy, makes me happier about it now haha. And like Arya more for rejecting him. Put her on the thrown 😛

Ugh this episode feels like it was written for or by teenagers. Why do they assume Brianne wants to lose the v card just cos she hasn't before? such an emphasis on sex being the ultimate of all love things. Booooring. Jamie better not give Brie Cersei diseases. Yayyy Jamie returns to Cersei. 😀 😀 😀

Which one was Renly? The fight with the Hound was her ultimate getting off moment. Jamie probably paled in comparison to that sword action. She was gullible to fall for Jamie and it annoyed me. Strong blonde warrior woman tricked by horny fake brunette, where have I seen that before?

I managed to finish Dexter and True Blood after those shows had jumped the shark, so what is happening now (and for the last few seasons) is well worn territory.

The most striking thing about the show now is how dumb the writing has become. I know GRRM wrote himself into a corner where he will never finish the books, but at least when they were adapting his work everyone was in character and there weren't plot-holes you could drive a mack truck through. The fact is everyone is so stupid now. Arya talks up Sansa like she's a super genius, when it's just the fact that everyone is permanently brain damaged now.

Think this EW article kind of shows that this event was not exactly out of character for Daenerys. The clues were all there. We (well most of us) just chose to ignore them. Got a feeling it'll end with King Jon sitting on the Iron Throne. However, I think that Sansa & Tyrion ruling the Seven Kingdoms would be better for all. Personally (denied clues or not), I'd rather that Dany not gone all 'mad queen off with her head' (sorry couldn't resist).

What an episode. I've been telling anyone who'd listen that Danaerys is a monster for years! The amount of people with their heads firmly in the sand now crying about "bad writing" is very amusing.

I know. People are whining about character assassination and she never did this before and I am just like what show were you watching? She was a brutal conqueror that was only reigned in by her advisors. When they are dead there is no stopping her. After Drogo died she didn't become a queen, didn't become a leader. She became a warlord. The people of Westeros finally saw who she was when she didn't get her way.

I'm disappointed that Tyrion couldn't see through her. Think he was just desperate to believe in something. Jon was predictably slow on the uptake but at least he's had his eyes opened now. Not sure what to expect next week. Nearly everyone's dead but there still feels like loads to wrap up.

I have a theory on that. It's not really Tyrion. Tyrion died and that is actually Jaqen H'ghar playing the role of Tyrion which would explain how one of the smartest characters that could see the truth behind pretty much anyone's facade suddenly became a bumbling fool that had no common sense at all.

I think he desperately wanted to stay loyal because he’s finally starting to think he could be a “good man”. So he’s rejecting what would be expected of him which is betrayal.

I’m just interested to see in this repeat of history whether Tyrion or Jon gets to play Jamie’s part and kill the queen.

So far I have been disappointed in the last few episodes. I loved the opening season 8 episode. But I didn't like episodes 5. I don't really like how the characters went out. I don't like that Dany just went crazy AFTER the guards dropped their swords and the bells were ringing. Dany was trying so hard not to be her father the Mad King only to become the Mad Queen.

Whether or not the seeds of Dany being mad had been there all along, it is bad writing to just rush this character arc in two episodes. To me it lacks proper motivation for continuing to burn down Kings Landing after the bells were rung. She agreed to Tyrion that if the bells were rung she would stop. So what changed her mind? Just saying "well she was mad all along" is not an excuse, it's bad writing. I can't believe it took almost two years to put this season together. Feels like they read some fanfic one night, and then wrote the season out the next day. Sorry, just me ranting. I really hope the last episode is great.

That's the thing though, it's been an 8 season build. Ever since getting a taste of power with Drogo she's been on the path. Once people started grovelling she was hooked. She gave the OK for her brothers head to be melted. Crucified hundreds. Buried people alive. Incinerates prisoners.

She agreed to Tyrion that if the bells were rung she would stop. So what changed her mind?

She lied. She lost the people who grovel to her most and another dragon. Hadn't eaten for days. Told Jon she was going to rule through fear. Her aim has been to rule a utopian society. In that order. If it can't be utopian she'd rule an awful one. If she can't do that then she'll rule the ashes.

It was one of the few episodes I liked. Unless my take on it is all wrong and then I won't like it as much.

She didn't go crazy. She was instilling fear. She said it before when her nephew dismissed her sexual advances. Everyone loved him and feared her. She gave them reason to fear. She wanted their fear.

She agreed to Tyrion that if the bells were rung she would stop. So what changed her mind?

She never agreed to that. She and the Grey Worm planned it all along. You saw her shoot Worm that glance as Tyrion was pleading his case. They never wanted anything but to destroy and break them.

Her first instinct has always been towards violence and death. I think people too often forget scenes like this:

At least all of the people she killed in King's Landing died for "a good reason"

But I got the sense she didn't really agree with Tyrion. She wanted to punish them all for Missandei. To me it didn't seem out of the blue at all - you felt it coming.

Big ask to squeeze that into the final episode. When would you say the switch happened? I think he's just been beaten down by the ugliness of the world and that's why he's lost his edge.

YAYYY! I loved that episode! Fire pretty. I am SO glad it went this way 😀

I thought Arya was going to die blow by blow with the Hound. Pleased she didn't though, the end scene was beautiful. I like her again since she slayed the night king.

I laughed too much at the mountain dude not dying. All I could think was "its just a flesh wound".
