The state Vermont recently recognized marriages between members of the same sex, and more states, like massachusetts are expected to do the same. President Bush has promised that he is going to try to ban gay marriages. Upon being asked about the subject, the leading democrate candidate Kerry has spoken against gay marriages too (traitor). With all the fuss about gay marriages in the states lately, I wanted to know what you thought about this? Should gay people be allowed to marry?

I think yes..If they love each other they have the same right to be happy as others..There are many legal issues connected with it also..Marriage gives more rights..

Yeah Gays should be able to marry.... We have the right to do as we wish.... to marry who we wish and its not right if they try to take that right away from us..... who are we to judge what another person likes?

Gay people should have the same right to marry. The the same as straight people. The only difference is that the love the same sex and there's noting wrong with that.

Yes, I believe gays should be allowed to marry. Why shouldn't they? And if Bush tries to get it passed to ban all gay marriage in the constitution, wouldn't that be infringing on separation between church and state? Marriage is a religious ceremony. Eh, the whole thing pisses me off. Bush is a jerk. And that's all I really have to say on that subject.

I said yes too. I think they should get married because they are just like everyone else except one small difference. They should be aloud to be happy too.

At the end of the day if two people love each other why should they be stopped from declaring this love and celebrating it by marriage if they should wish to just because they have fallen in love with someone of the same sex. Love is a beautiful thing and it is all too scarce these days if you ask me. It's precious and should be treated so.

Why should a person's sexual preference matter? Let people marry whoever they want.

Marriage was and is supposed to be a Religious ceremony, The Bible states that homosexual relations are un-natural and sin-worthy therefore it is only natural that Gay people should not be allowed to Marry... but these days no cares about the will of God and so I guess it doesnt matter if they get married or not..

Not allowing gay people to marry is going against the rule of law and generality, which the country was founded on, but It was also founded under God, so religious facts are an issue. So I don't know, I don't really have an opinion.

Beautifully said. I strongly believe that anyone who is truly committed to another person should be allowed to make his or her commitment "official."

There is a lot to be said for the sanctity of marriage. However, for me that means the sanctity of love and unending commitment between any two people. Love is love.

i said yes. two people no matter what gender they are should be able to show their love and affection in any way they want. personally i dont really care for marriage its been made a same of in the last few decades what with devorce and everything so i dont really see what the good it does it doenst bind two peopel together. and not that is should mind you. but its just a way to get money out of people and give the church/other religous institutes a way to get a little bit of power that they have lost over people.

but yeah if they want to get married why the hell not. no one should put a limit on love. no matter who is in love.

I deffinately say a big loud YES.

First of all, there are the moral reasons. Everyone should be able to express him or her self in any way (baring violent or dangerous acts....). Not only is there the sybolic value of marriage and the equallity it represents, but to deny someone the right to mary is also to deny them many of the rights that come with marriage. All though these are not the most important part of the issue, they still hold weight. Marriage provides a couple with tax breaks, different leagal standing and all manner of other considerationd. To allow one group of people these rights and not another is blatent descrimination.

I don't know the reasons against, so I'll refrain from comment.

However, I will say that marriage is not a religious ceremony. Some people (I would said most) are married in a church / synagogue / mosque or other religious building, but that is not a necessary part of it. It can be a purely legal ceremony. FYI

thats like totally wrong, i mean if someone really loves the other person they should, if anyone watches Home and Away (aussie show) and you see kirsty and kane, no one thinks they should get married and they did. So if I was then I just would. Anyways back on subject my answer is yes, everyone has a right, and a right to mary just like everyone else.

Thats such an unfair judgement, its natural to fall in love even if it isnt the same that everyone else does, I mean they didnt do anyone wrong they didnt murder anyone, why should they get punished??
(sorry this sounds mean, im just opinionising)

I say yes, but I will not say Vampyr is wrong either. Those are her beliefs, it doesn't mean I have to agree, but I can accept and tolerate her point of view. I know you aren't trying to be mean Alyson....but aren't we already arguing over discrimination? So telling someone they're beliefs are wrong can come off sounding mean, even though that is not your intention...I understand you are just stating your opinion, but you may want to leave out the part of saying they are wrong. Just so you don't offend anyone...anyway... I just think if you love someone, you should be able to marry them. I don't really think it's a religous ceremony, it based on love. So why should sexual preference get in the way of marrying the person you love?

I wish that all of you straight people out there could understand what it is like to be gay in a society that rarely tolerates and certainly does not accept or celebrate the lives of the GLBT community. Sexual orientation isn't a choice, but the most common justification I hear for opposing gay marriage is that homosexuality is wrong. If you believe that I wont argue with you, but please tell me that I am wrong and profane and sinful in my existance not that being gay is wrong as if it is a behavior I can avoid. The debate over gay marriage physically hurts me. It is very hard for me to listen to people who stay neutral on the issue. I know that most of you out their are nice tolerant people with open minds. As a friend, I urge you to use them. If you believe in equality speak out. You will be helping many people. I did not choose to feel attracted to and fall in love with women. I had no active desire to be ostracized from some aspects of society and pressed into the role of activist for my own rights and the rights of others, but you have a choice. You can choose to help other people and not to be a silent collaborator in the discrimination and oppression of your fellow human beings. Please do so.

Really well said
Hitome...I think I just fell in love with you...
In a strictly platonic sense of course...but still😉

This is a very hard question for me...as a homosexual male myself.
For one, I have no aspirations whatsoever of getting married...and quite frankly I don't like the idea of having some love-stricken puppy-dog boy preposing to me just because it's legal now...

I agree with Vampyr in a sense, I don't think they should be allowed (or in all actuality, religions who don't believe in it should not be forced) to have Religious ceremonies...but I don't see why the hell they can't have legal ceremonies that have nothing to do with Religious affiliation...

Anyone else notice that (most) people don't seem to have a problem with gay "civil unions" but the term "gay marriage" just totally freaks them out...I think it might be because of the very reasons Vampyr stated...
But I do have a question for Vampyr...how did you feel about Tara and Willow?

Ironically Phases is on right now with Xander and Larry lol

And I hope this comment was not directed at me - not knowing the particulars of a bill is not the same as being neutral.
