It's her first interview were she talks about Angel since the end of Buffy.

Gellar Open To Angel Gig

Sarah Michelle Gellar, former star of TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told SCI FI Wire the reasons she reluctantly pulled out of appearing in the Buffy spinoff Angel earlier this season and left open the possibility that she might still make an appearance, if asked, before Angel winds up its fifth and final season this year on The WB. Gellar, speaking for the first time about the issue, said in an interview that she had to bow out of a planned guest appearance on Angel when her aunt died late last year. Gellar spoke to SCI FI Wire during a break in the filming of her new project, the supernatural horror film The Grudge, in Tokyo.

Her Angel decision was "a really common misconception that people have written a lot about," Gellar said. "They had asked me to do Angel, and it was a very bad time in my personal life. There was a lot going on in my family. And I had to back out. And you sort of never hear the second side of the story. You never hear why I didn't do it. And then all of a sudden, people get really angry, and nobody asks why it didn't work for you." At the time, reports suggested that Gellar had pulled out because she wanted to distance herself from the Buffy franchise.

As for whether she will guest star in Angel's season-ending episodes, much as Angel star David Boreanaz did on Buffy when it wrapped its seven-year run last spring, Gellar said it hinges in part on her schedule. She's finishing the final weeks of 42 days of shooting on The Grudge, with at least nine more shooting days to go. The final Angel episodes are in production now.

"A lot has been written about recently, 'Oh, is she going to do it? Is she not going to do it?'" Gellar said. "Well, to be truthful, I don't know if I'm even going to make it home before they finish. But no one's contacted me. I'll be totally honest. And it depends. I think. I go back and forth on the idea, especially because Angel had such a hard time, in my opinion, always getting out from Buffy's shadow. And it never got to stand on its own. And I would hate for it to go out being about Buffy. It'll all depend on if I'm home in time and what the ideas are."

Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon has said he'd welcome an appearance by Gellar. For her part, she said she's open to it, explaining, "If everything falls into place, and it feels like the right thing at the time for the right people." Angel airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT

She doesn't seem like she's being diva-ey about it. She seems perfectly reasonable! 😀 Pa-tooey to all you nay-sayers. 😉 😛

By this you can tell that she really cares about us Buffy and Angel fans. She hasn't and wouldn't turn her back on us!! She guys, she basically says in this interview that she would do it if asked and if she can get back to the States in time to shoot it.

Naive
The good ol' "Dead Aunt" excuse. Where would people be without dogs and dead aunts to blame stuff on?

Then there's this "Angel had such a hard time, in my opinion, always getting out from Buffy's shadow". Correct me if I'm wrong Sarah but didn't the Angel ratings bury the Buffy ratings last years. Who's in who's shadow?

Kind of reminds me of the Freddy Prinze interview where Freddy was insinuating Sarah invented BTVS. I always wondered where he got that idea?

Stop and think a minute people. Sarah has Scooby Doo 2 coming out next week. She knows she's starting to piss off Buffy fans with the whole "Buffy who?" attidude she's been draped in for the last year or so. Sarah is an accomplished actress who knows how to play the publicity game.

Knowing all this, go back and read the article again. Tell me what you think.

Hey I like SMG, but this "Sarah as Goddess" thing died, when she refused to recognize her roots...period.

Your wrong.

Angel beat Buffy (national ratings) 3 times.

That was episode:

18: buffy 2.3 and Angel 2.6
19: buffy 2.3 and Angel 2.6
21: buffy 2,4 and Angel 2.6

Who's in who's shadow?

AI think she meant getting press coverage and media attention (not the quality of the episodes). Angel has always been in Buffy's shadow. Even now that buffy stopped they always talk about Buffy or Sarah.

I was getting a bit worried reading the first article, maybe Gellar was still a normal person, but phew, you convinced me she's still a spoiled lil' diva 😉

Unecessary comments on SMG
I don't know if this with renew my faith in SMG, but she do seem to be honest on that subject. Until we talk to her face to face, we will not know. 😀

19: buffy 2.3 and Angel 2.6
21: buffy 2,4 and Angel 2.6

As usual it depends on how you look at the numbers. If you compare the last ten Buffy 7 episodes to the last ten Angel 6 episodes it looks like this:

Buffy - Angel

1) B 2.9 - A 2.6
2) B 2.4 -A 2.6
3) B 2.3 - A 2.5
4) B 2.3 - A 2.6
5) B 2.2 - A 2.6
6) B 2.3 - A 2.3
7) B 2.4 - A 2.6
8) B 2.6 - A 2.6
9) B 2.4 - A 2.5
10) B 2.3 -A 2.6

Buffy's ratings were highest only once of the ten times. The episode was Chosen - the last episode of the season and series. One would hope that episode would beat Angel's finale. It did, but only by .3 of a percent.

Also compare Buffy's top 3 rated episodes against Angels. Again Angel wins.

Buffy highest ratings ever:
Innocence - 5.2 Phases 4.9 Anne - 4.7

Angel's highest ratings ever: Conviction 5.2, Just Rewards 5.2 Unleashed 5.0

I think the reason I have a hard time accepting Sarah's slick little piece of sophistry, telling us Angel is forever stuck in her shadow, is because, I personally started watching Angel before I knew what a Buffy was. I've always thought of BTVS as the stunted little sister of ATS.

Angel's a spinoff and exists in the same fictional universe. How could it not have existed in Buffy's shadow?

Whoa Whoa Whoa people. Why would Sarah lie about her aunt dying? Give the girl some sympathy. Maybe she didn't want to tell the entire world that she passed on doing Angel because her aunt died. Before she knew the show was cancelled she was planning on coming back next season for a guest spot. It's not like she planned on the show getting cancelled. As for her comments about Angel moving out of Buffy's shadow, she is kind of right. Angel should have a chance to go out (if it does) without Buffy there. As much as I would like to see Sarah appear in the finale, Angel is and always has been it's own show. All that SMG was saying was that maybe it's not a good idea for Buffy (the character) to show up at the end of Angel because that's all that the finale would be about....Buffy picking Spike or Angel. Sarah wouldn't want to steal the glory from David, James, J., Alexis, Amy, all of them and all that they have built over at Angel. She even said in the interview that she would appear if her schedule permits it. If she doesn't appear it's not her fault. Sarah didn't know that Angel would be cancelled. Don't blame her for the WB's stupid decision. I'm sick of people making attacks at her loyality and character because her schedule may or may not permit her to appear in the finale. Sarah loves her fans! I'm one of her devoted fans and I stand behind any decision that she makes.

is she gonna do it or not??

Hey. I'm behind on the updates so wanted to start this. Do you think SMG is going to do the angel ep. or not? Has she made a decision? I'm not sure what to think as i said im behind on these things

She hasn't made up her mind yet, she said that she had to check her schedule because she still has some shooting left on "The Grudge" in Japan. They are finishing up Angel as we speak. Plus she has promo work for Scooby Doo 2. She hasn't even been asked officially yet she said in an interview. We'll see I guess. I'm sure we'll find out for sure soon.

I think she's not gonna do it,..I read the interview and she didn't sound like 'I wanna/gonna do it'...::crying::

By being better than the original. Like, for instance I see Godfather 2, Aliens 2, and Terminator 2 as surpassing the original, so how can they be in the shadow of the original in my mind.

Sarah obviously wants to see Angel as being in her shadow. I and others disagree.

And why does Sarah seem to think it's up to her to decide what's best for Angel anyway.

Joss and Fury say they want to call. When they call she can either come, or not come, but don't offer up that "I can't come to Angel, because you're in my shadow" crap. If Joss Whedon doesn't think Angel is any danger of being overshadowed, where does Sarah get off thinking her opinion means more.

Without Joss Whedon, Sarah Michelle Gellar would be nothing more than an ex child, soap opera actress. He knows what he's doing.

They might surpass their originals--might. But those originals still cast their shadow over them, just by existing. Brulia is right BTW. I think too much is being assumed about SMG.

Absolutely. I agree with you. When you assume SMG is some kind of Saint based on some tricky responses to some prepared questions, too much is being assumed.

We're not making Sarah out as a Saint, all that we are saying is cut her some slack. Don't hate on her because she may not return for Angel's finale.
