Get Out! Get Out! Get Out!

Hey we've all been there....but if I had thrown temper tantrums like that I would have expected to get some sense smacked into me. It's one thing to be a teenager but it's another thing to act like a spoiled little brat.

I've noticed that throughout all of the seasons Dawn tends to turn everything into something about her. Something could happen to Buffy and Dawn will turn around and say, "How could you do this to me Buffy??" I mean...come on.

I've never liked Dawn though....

Again, she's a 14-15 year old girl in most of these cases. She feels like the worlds out to get her. And her sister being the popular slayer doesnt help.

i didnt like dawn...just found her to be an annoying brat....( thought id give here a chance...) as the series went by i didnt grow to like her....just didnt warm to her carature....( whats with the really high singging...in one more time with feeling??????)

I fought long and hard to repress the memory of Michelle screaming this. Thanks for this thread, I'll have nightmares for months. The first time I heard her scream this, my brain melted and dribbled out my ears...I think it was my brain, something dribbled out... Maybe the pitch dislodged something that was stuck.. Whatever, back to therapy for me..

That screams was like nails on a chalkboard!!
I Am a teenager so i know where her character is coming from though i think she is a whinging little whiner that over does it and a drama queen... i do like dawn.... but she is sooo annoying and treats buffy like crap...

it is the truth... for what buffy did for dawn... before she died for her and then when buffy died for dawn and came back dawn broke her promise when she said ill try harder and blah blah blah.... just no respect for buffy or what she did for her...

Being 14-15 doesn't give you an excuse to act like a spoiled brat. I realize that kids react differently and can't always be expected to deal with things in a mature way but being a kid is really no excuse for the extent of Dawn's behavior in my opinion.

Kimm I so agree with you here! We have all been 14 or 15 at some time but I know for a fact I never ever, acted like Dawn did. Now I know she had all the family crap, like mum dying and finding out she was the key etc but other teenagers have problems too and they don't react like Dawn did in fact they usually grow up faster because of it. Dawn just turned into whinger of the year and took it out on everyone around her! She seriously annoyed me.

I also have to agree that I hated the way she treated Buffy!

Yeah I can blame her! So what she found out she was the key, but everyday teenagers find out there parents are splitting up or they lose a parent, or they lose there personal belongings in the hurricanes and other natural disasters that plague this earth. Yes it must have been upsetting for her but other teenagers have to deal with problems in their lives, some find out that they are adopted when they didn't know, that is similar to Dawns experience, but they don't scream and act up all the time.

Some do but eventually they get over it. Dawn used it as something she had over her mum and sister. She used it as an excuse to be horrible to them and that is what annoyed me about her.

She was still a spoiled brat before she found out she was the key....the only difference is that after she found that out she used it as an excuse to have temper tantrums. :cry2:

I may be coming across as harsh but I did honestly find myself hoping with all my might in every episode that she would somehow die.

People are always so hard on Dawn, geeze, she was a kid.. Sure she was annoying at time, but I'm sure she had her reasons to. Like Summers Blood said, things happen in our lives all the time.. I'm sure it did in Dawn's life too, even before she found out she was a key. But the thing is that we deal with it differently. Sure she dealt with it by yelling and being annoying, lol, not saying she's perfect in any way.. But annoying wasn't all she was, she's really sweet at times as well 🙂

Yeah I'll agree that she did have her moments. There were a couple times where I thought "oh isn't that nice". She still annoyed me about 99.9% of the time though but I admit she had her moments.

Lol alright. I get why she annoyed people. I hated her the first time I saw season 5 (almost as much as I hated Connor on AtS!).. But after watching the show a few times I really changed my mind..

I like Michelle Trachtenberg, I think she's a fine actress and she did a fine job on BtVS. But I've come to wonder if she was really the best choice for Season 5 Dawn. The adjective I see most often for Dawn is "annoying". I think somewhere on the S5 DVD special features there's a comment by one of the producers that they were originally looking for someone younger to play Buffy's sister. Maybe a 10 or 11 year old "Dawn" might have gone over better with the Buffy crowd, and might have fit in better as the Key. As a 14-15 year old she was loud and intrusive being thrust into the set of characters we had come to know for four seasons previously.

After Season 5, I think a 15 or so year old character was a better fit to the Buffy world, and people seem to complain less about Dawn towards the end of the series.

BTW I'm okay with Dawn as well and certainly with Michelle Trachtenberg. The series is what it is and I don't want to dwell on second-guessing.
