Giles 'The Gift'

I think he would have killed her, but only if it was the last possible thing to do...but once the dimensions started opening i think that he would have killed her if he had gotten to her.

I dont think that Giles actually would kill Dawn..he see how much Buffy loves Dawn..she lost her mother and then if Giles killed Dawn she would of lost her sister aswell he would of Betrayed her in the biggest way possible. Giles knows that if he would have killed her Buffy would of never forgiven him about..she'd probably try and kill him.

Well, If u had to save ppl u didn't know between a person u DID know which wud u pick? That's kinda the situation Buffy is put in. She wud rather sacrifice herself than letting sum1 else she knew and loved die. I don't think she cud bear seeing another death.
Notice how Giles was all out of the "Let's research some more for a better option" mode?? It was Buffy who said that there had to b another way. If Giles was up there at the same time as Buffy with Dawn, Giles wud probably try to talk to her abt how they have to kill Dawn, but Buffy wud b protecting Dawn and if that really did happen, I think it wud end the same way...with Buffy realizing wat has to happen. (sacrificing herself)

I think that Buffy was pushed to the point that absolutely nothing else mattered anymore except Dawn. She had told Giles that if Dawn died she would give up slaying, at that point all she was thinking of was saving her family. She was not thinking about saving the world until her family was safe-then she decided to go ahead and do her job as a slayer. Quite personally I think she did the right thing.

I do think that Giles would probably of killed Dawn if he felt it the right thing to do. I don't want to pick on him, his priorities and agenda were similar to Buffy's but they still are not exactly the same. It all happened as it should of...

I also think Giles would have killed Dawn. I also think he would have a hard time living with it, and I think Buffy might have wigged out and killed Giles if she had got there right after Dawn died. I don't really see Ben as an innocent like Dawn, he made choices to help and hide Glory, he could have told Buffy, he could have helped, and he never did, and Giles knew that.

Giles says to buffy, we do what we have to, to protect this world.
Buffy says to Giles, If you go after Dawn you know I'll stop you.

It's a moot point, Giles would have killed Dawn if he had to, But by the time he would have been able to, Buffy would have been in the way anyway.

I think he would have killed dawn, but first he'd have to somehow distract Buffy coz she'd never allow this to happen...
As her watcher and father figure he'd have done thing better for B, but in that situation for the world...

i think he would have, if he had to, yes he knows it would destroy buffy and shed never forgive him, but he probably fells its better to save everyone and have buffy never forgive him, than to have buffy and everyone else die

I think he absolutely would have killed Dawn (with obvious regret as a last course of action).

Of course that was a decision that Buffy could never have made, killing her little sister is not something Buffy is capable of doing. Being able to intellectually separate the good of her family from the good of the world doesn't enter into the equation - she could not have done it and could not allow it. After killing Angel to save the world, I think her ability to perform a similar action was taken from her. That sort of action does not get easier with repetition, it gets harder - she already knows how difficult it is to live with having killed a loved one.

Here's an interesting side question: If Giles HAD killed Dawn, would anyone still remember her or would the monk's spell have been broken once the key was no longer in human form?

That's really interesting....I think they'd still remember her, but maybe their memories would be fading....

well the monks created the memories, the key did not create them, so i think they would still remember her unless the monks chose to take those memories away, but definitly an interesting question...

He would have killed her. But another question. Uh... when Buffy died should Dawn die, too. Until the blood stops flowing, and Dawn shared Buffy's blood. Think about it.

My Brother-in-Law hit me with that one, I'm going to have to watch The Gift again, because that seems like a hole that I can't figure out. AHHH!
