I watched The Gift yesterday, still very emotional. Anyways, i was thinking, Giles killed Ben, we all knew that, and when Giles is talking to Buffy in the training room, he says to her:

"But I've sworn to protect this sorry world, and sometimes that means saying and doing what other people can't... they shouldn't have to."

Do you think that if Giles had gotten to Dawn, he would have killed her? I dont know why i thought of this, it just crossed my mind when he said that (quote), and i wondered what your opinion of this was.

I don't doubt it for an instant.
Would he have wanted to? Nope.
Would he have hesitated? Probably.
Would he have killed her? Quick and painlessly as possible.

Gotta disagree. If there's one thing about Buffy, and Giles knows this, while she fights to save the world, she fights to save her world. Although that was what he was saying, I think after Buffy said what she said, he changed his mind, not because he was afraid of dying, but because he understood what it would do to Buffy.

I am always astounded when people think Buffy should do whatever it takes to save the world without regard to people in her inner circle. Buffy is motivated by the connections she has to the world, and that's what makes her different from other Slayers. We got a glimpse of who she would have been without those connections in "The Wish." I know that a lot of people think she shouuld make those sacrifices for the entire world, and I guess they are right, but I understand why Buffy doesn't make them.

No....OK, yeah, but he does it by fighting for his Slayer. He would not destroy Buffy for the world. If Giles had been up on the tower with Buffy and Dawn, I think he would have let Buffy do what she did instead of taking matters into his own hands and killing Dawn.

No, he would have killed Dawn! And if it had to be done, he would have sacrificed Buffy aswell to save the world!

He would have killed her, and so would i... i thought buffy was being extremely selfish with her if "she dies we all die" attittude, i understand she couldn't bear another loss but still the entire world?

But then again, Buffy has always been like this, she thinks of the Slayership as a burden, while Kendra found it a privilige, that's IMO the problem with Buffy, I wouldn't mind trading places, she should be proud ... stupid b*tch!

I agree with Allycat, i think that if Giles would have gotten there before Buffy, he would have killed Dawn. He killed Ben, who was an innocent, why not Dawn?

i don't think he would have. so your implying he gets to the top and what...stabs her! she would have bled and the portal would have opend <<< but giles would not have done that if he had brains. he would proberbly choke her

Would he have killed her? Quick and painlessly as possible.

which is not Quick, but what use would that do! he would have to carry her slumping body down the tower. why do that when they could run down to get away as quick as posible! ether way he would have not gotten past Doc. Buffy was meant to get to Dawn period.

I know, but this is a post about WHAT - IF BuffyUKer, its just supposed to be what you think.

I know, i don't think he would have. i didn't mean to come across all harsh. sorry all!

I think that if Giles killed Dawn, Buffy would've done something drastic... she would not have been happy. Things worked out better with her sacrificing herself... because you know, it's not hard to stay dead.

Buffy might have killed Giles... and then that would've been bad.

I don't know if she would have killed him, even though she threatened to, but I think it would have ruined her. She would have lost the last person she counted on (Giles), and I think she would have become ineffective as a Slayer.

I think Giles would have killed Dawn only as a last resort, if he felt it was his duty. (He didn't seem really thrilled about killing Ben as it was.)

Buffy would have killed him, I think, to *protect* Dawn, but I'm not sure what she'd do if she found out *after* he'd killed her.

Either way, I agree with Dimished_9th that it would have ruined her as a person and a Slayer.

That's an interesting one: what do you think would happen if Buffy was in a save-the-world situationa dn *had* to kill one of her friends who wasn't of demon origin? She's had to kill those before, and though it's been hard she's done it, but what about Giles or one of the Scoobies?

I agree. But it is hard to tell with Giles. He is a very complex character. And Buffy did tell him" if you touch my sister I'll kill you"
so I think he would of had that threat in mid. I dunno It is just a thought

I think Giles would have done it. If he had gotten there before Buffy, he would have killed Dawn to save the world. And if he had been up there with both Buffy and Dawn, he would have killed Dawn rather than have Buffy sacrifice herself. Buffy would have hated him forever for that, but he wouldn't allow her to do that if there was some way out of it.

i think he would of. he would do anything for the greater good
