Glee Thread

I've heard the complaint there's not enough music. I just went through the pre-hiatus season 1 episodes (the ones I LOVED) and several of them only had 3 or 4 songs. We've just gotten accustomed to having so many songs in an episode that it's strange to watch so little. As far as the modern music... i was so happy to hear showtunes instead of modern music. Lea Michelle's voice sounds so much better belting a showtune than singing a top 40 song. It really does. They needed to cut back on the music and focus on the story. Once they get the story, they can add music to further it along. Which is exactly what it looks like they're doing.

zobothehobo agrees: This is why I love you. You say everything I'm too lazy to write.

I feel like I have to 😛 I feel like I owe it to the minority in the Glee fandom. Like, there seems to be hardly anyone with the same opinions so I have to say it. But yes, I'm thrilled they cut back on the music and Lea hasn't sang any big top 40 hit. Her version of The Only Exception by Paramore made me want to scream. I loved that song but her version...I love her voice but NOT ON THAT SONG!

Okay, mini-rant over.

AHHHH I love you.
I loved tonight's episode! Really did! All that Brittany talk about unicorns made me go awwww, and Santana was super sweet to her. I wonder how Britt's campaign is going to look like 🙂 I was never the biggest fan of Puck, but when he came to Shelby's and brought that drawing to Beth, he almost made me cry. Also, I was really sad when he told Quinn he doesn't care about her, you could really see he had hurt her.

Last night's episode was amazing. I love Idina Menzel, so she's always welcome on "Glee" for me. 🙂 Mark Salling's performance melted my heart... His face as he acted the scene with Beth and Shelby was so beautiful. Awww...
Diana Agron did amazing in last night's ep, too... WOW. She was bitchtacular in that final scene in the dance rehearsal! Can't wait to see where Quinn's gonna end up at the end of this season.
I was pleasantly surprised by the harder, tougher Will! WOW go Mr. Shu!!

So many feelings for last night's episode. ALL THE FRIGGIN AWARDS! seriously. I am having a hard time with Quinn's storyline though. It infuriates me that she's being a psycho over her kid she put up for adoption. But then she goes and cries that dramatic emmy winning cry and all i wanna do is hug her forever. Puck with Beth, omg... "I don't care about you, I care about her" I wanted to just kiss him and have his babies right then and there! omg omg

and then Brittana. It was a small scene...but Santana with so very few words, got Brittany to smile her goofy blushing smile in merely seconds, something Artie could never do. BRITTANA IS ON. Brittana is always on. My ship is sailing! :')

Just watched last night's ep and I have to say that Glee is achieving levels of emotional poignancy and truth that I don't think think it has ever reached. Mike's scenes in the dance studio and Emma's scene where she is praying were genuinely moving. I'm very impressed with this season so far.

'Asian F' was the best episode of Glee in a long time, in my opinion.

Really loved the focus on Mike, his dancing, and the pressure he feels from his family.

Adored the Dreamgirls sequence - loved how they didn't just sing the song but performed the scene.

Hope this season maintains this standard!

I loved episode 3. I'm so happy they focused on Mike and Mercedes, I'd love to see more focus on these neglected characters. Hopefully next time we'll see more episodes centered around them as well as Artie and Tina. Last season was too much Kurt, and the show has been all about Rachel for so long. It's nice to see other characters get fleshed out.

Sorry guys but I'm going to respectfully disagree with you - I thought this episode was RUBBISH!

What exactly was the motto of the Mercedes story? That if you're lazy, don't practise anything and don't look after your health you deserve things to come to you anyway? Bollocks. What a demotivating story. Rachel works hard and IT PAYS OFF. That's the way the real world works.

She's just such a hideous character. So that got me riled up, but then the rest of the episode just seemed all over the place. Here and there and everywhere.

I wish they had have just focussed more on Mike Chang and his family - it was the only one of the main stories that I was really invested in.

I have the impression that the writers are aware of that. You can see it in the song where everybody is ganging on Mercedes. But I do agree that Rachel is Schu's star and probably teacher's pet. We have seen Emma convince Schu to use his other students last season instead of using Rachel and Finn over and over. I personally don't blame Schu for relying on Rachel most of the time. She has earned his trust with her enthusiasm and voice. She'd proved herself to be the best person for the job.

I agree regarding the fact that Rachel is definitely the star of Glee. Schu should definitely be choosing Rachel for the lead roles. Her talent is fantastic, but the thing that I really adore about Rachel is her discipline and determination. She works hard and it pays off in her perfomances.

I disagree with people like Emma that encourage Schu to give other people a go. I strongly believe that the people that are best should get the roles. The only reason that Mercedes got offered half of the role of Maria was because the judges didn't want to hurt her feelings or see her have a strop.

Rachel is the clear choice for Maria. Who would rely on Mercedes?

If it came down to it and I was hiring Rachel or Mercedes for a job at my work there is abosultely NO WAY I would hire Mercedes.

I just hope that Rachels mum whips her into gear. She's known for being a suffer no fools hardarse and I think it is exactly what Mercedes needs. The last thing she needed was a jock boyfriend to tell her how wonderful she is!! Haha. Seriously. She's arrogant enough as it is.

And there's a month long hiatus or something before his ep. Makes me want to cry.
I really enjoyed Asian F despite how much I dislike Mercedes character. The thing is, I believe that her story is going to be fleshed out even more now that the format of the show has changed and the story is on-going. I think there is something behind what she's going through. Sure, she's a bitca and really pisses me off but I think there's more there. I mean, Rachel really pisses me off sometimes too. She gets stroppy if she doesn't get the main roles and thinks she deserves things more than others but she also has the deep parts of her that come out sometimes. She can compliment other people, I hope her and Mercedes develop some sort of friendship and understanding at some point. If Mercedes let's her, Rachel could help her out. I haven't hated Rachel at all this season, I'm very refreshed.

The focus on Mike Chang was so amazing. And he sang, and he danced and I died with happiness. He's gorgeous and talented and amazing and just a great character who deserved his promotion. The storyline for him made me want to cry. His scene with his mother was the sweetest thing I've ever seen. And just his inner thoughts and struggles were so...deep. I can't begin to express how much more I love Glee now.

As for Emma, her story in the episode made me cry. The scene with her and Will when she was praying seriously moved me. And he is becoming a MUCH better character. I hated Will for so much of season 2, and I think it was because they were ignoring his character and they were making him just this pushover guy. He would sit there and not say anything when Santana was a bitch--which was often. He just let it go and he didn't stand up for anyone, it was annoying. But in this season his character is growing a backbone I'd never seen from him and becoming a much more decent person. He stood up to Emma's parents and it broke my heart. And he slid down to the floor and into praying position with her, I laughed and I cried and his song...I'm so glad he's done a good song again. I love hearing him sing.

Oh, and Damian...or Rory as his character is called. GIVE ME MY CUTE IRISH BOY. I need him to make me smile. <3

Being a fan of Mike since he showed up it felt great seeing this episode. About time to say the least.

I think the Glee club has changed focus. First it seemed be about having fun, gaining confidence and belonging and then I think it makes perfect sense to try and lift everyone. Now however it seems to be "everything to win" and that changes a lot. Emma will probably never be like that, she wants everyone to feel good so her actions will reflect that.

YES! Mike singing was awesome and about time indeed! lol

And I also agree that everything changed focus... Ryan Murphy keeps saying is about being the underdog but nowadays seems all about being the best and winning.

Ah, and Fix You was a torment... when it started I was like "OH NO, HE'S THE ONE SINGING COLDPLAY? =O"

Besides everything my girly said still loves Glee cause theres singing and dancing, and most important, Blaine <3 lol

I think that neither Mercedes nor Rachel would have been happy sharing the part of Maria, despite what Rachel said. Neither will settle for anything less than being declared the best. Rachel will go so far as to try to be the best in something else if she can't be considered the best singer, which is why she is also flirting with the idea of running for student council president. Speaking of that, I could write for pages about the machinations at work there. Brittany is running because Santana is pushing her to do so, and Santana is doing so because she wants Brittany to fall in love with her. Kurt wants to change the school's attitudes toward homosexuals, and Rachel wants to pad her resume with leadership accomplishments. It will be interesting to see who wins and what the fallout is, because its shaping up to be brutal. Hopefully more is made of this than was made of Kurt becoming prom queen, because that wasn't dwelled upon much.

I agree with everything said about Mike and Emma -- their stories were touching and honest. Bravo to Mike's mom for attempting to break the chain of parents attempting to crush their children's dreams in favor of a pursuit of academic and career excellence. This seems to be more true than just a stereotype of Asian parents, because one of my friends (as well as one of my classmates) experiences the same pressures and demands.

I'm not exactly sure yet what to make of Puck's and Quinn's attempts to connect with their daughter. Puck at least seems to come from a more pure place, since Quinn seems to want her daughter to fill a hole in her life. Rachel's mom is right -- Quinn needs to become more mature and heal her damaged psyche before she tries to form a relationship with her daughter. If she can't take care of herself, she definitely can't take care of her daughter.

Best thing about Pot O' Gold; BRITTANIA IS ON!!!!! 😀
