Anyone have Google Plus?

Seems like it has potential to be better then the facebooks, only thing its really lacking is... users 😛

Well it's still in the invite only stage like gmail (and other google features) used to be when I got my account. I haven't been invited, but I'd love to try it out. *hint hint if someone wants to invite me*

But that might be why it's lacking in users. Just saying though... if Google Plus does rival with facebook, I'll be on Google's side. I'm a googlist!

Well how am I going to invite you without your email address?
Yeah I've got it. I like how you can sort people into circles and compartmentalise your friends. The thing that annoyed me about Facebook was that everyone could see everything, so Google+ takes care of that.

It is a bit of a ghost town at the moment but I hope it doesn't go the way of Google Wave as I think it has potential.

I don't have it... Honestly, as long as I've had Facebook I don't know if I'd want to change. I have so many pictures and stuff on my Facebook page that it be a PITA to change over to anything else at this point.

I don't have it, and I really don't think I'll switch over but I was looking at a few things on the website and there are a lot of pros and cons. I like that you can interact with not only one of your friends, but several at one time whether it's chat or video. But I don't like the layout, it's weird and confusing and it's just not how I want to work everything...if that makes any sense.

My only reservation about Google+ is that Google's reputation in regard to privacy is as bad as, if not worse than, Facebook's. :S

I've never quite understood the whole issue with privacy- surely it's up to you what you put on your profile in the first place? It's not like it fills it in for you. I'd be really interested to know why there's a problem with it as I just can't get my head around it.

I have it for the sole reason that you can do video chats with up to 10(?) people, I think, which is really handy. Had a threeway video call two days ago and it was pretty good sound quality too.

That's true. The issue is that they collect data from any information you DO put on there--including pages you like, status updates, friends, etc.--and sell them to third party advertisers. And they have a horrible habit of adding stuff and opting people in automatically without telling them. So you might end up with a friend giving away a whole lot of your information before you catch it and reset your privacy settings. AND every so often, they reset everyone's privacy settings to the default, so even if you've got yours locked down (like I have mine--nobody who isn't my friend can see a damn thing), you might end up with your entire profile out there for the whole world to see.

Google has access not only to what you post on Google+, but your search history, your e-mail if you use their e-mail, your shopping habits . . . Google's got a widget thingy on every single page on the internet. There's no escaping them.

Ah I see, you make a good point
I don't think the privacy problem with Google is like Facebook...? I think the problem with Google is the whole Gmail incident with China, and even if you don't have certain information up, a hacker can access things from your email and stuff you do have on your profile. The thing with that though is it's mostly government officials, etc that are targeted so it could also be not that big a deal. But I guess knowing the fact that China can easily hack Google (leaving the question, how easy is it for anyone to hack?)....I feel less private than even being on Facebook no matter what.

Also, Google has already said they don't believe in privacy. The CEO at one point said something like "if you have something you don't want anybody to know about, you probably shouldn't be doing it." (Cue screaming and throwing things.)

I bet you should have heard about this new Facebook thingy (Google+)? I was lucky enough being invited by Google to try out this new product. So how many of you already test run it? Looks like a hybrid of Facebook and Twitter. No? Then... ? What are your thoughts about this new social network project created by Google ?

I'm going to spend some time (worth it? We shall see ) on this Google + and see what's on the next menu. So far there are quite a lot which I really liked about. The "edit" button with the permissions-based system for sharing another gotta be the dragging different people into social circles is ridiculously addictive... and many many more.

As for those who don't have an account yet, and would like to have an invite, let me know as I believe I still have a few to spare. 🙂

I don't have it... I'd be game to try it though, if you'd like to send me an invite. 🙂
I don't know how well this is going to do. However, anything Google is behind is usually pretty successful.

Thank you very much! :)
I like it but that's just because I can filter out all the people I can't stand without having to delete them from Facebook. It's like an exclusive club for people you actually like 😛 There's something about the stream and circles that I love as well, though I can't really pinpoint it.

I think given time this could be something pretty good. I read an interesting article today that said, it's like starting over in your online social life. That you can start managing your contacts better by learning from the mistakes you may have made on Facebook. I thought it was a very good point and possible that a lot of people may in fact look at it that way.

Personally I like it. Easy to set up, easy privacy settings, easy to share, hmmm, sounding like a Googler 😉

You got lucky. I actually used up all my invites and after using the last one on Rick I thought that's it. But today morning when I woke up I noticed that goggle open up my invitation box again. So if you want an invite, just PM me your email addy and an invite will be on your way. 🙂

It's telling me you're not accepting PMs. Rick invited me, but I haven't gotten the invite... this happened when my dad first invited me to Gmail too. You can try if you want zobothehobo@gmail.com
