I might go on a weed poison massacre tomorrow. Its going to be warm again, so if I wash the dogs, it gives me extra reason to keep them off the yard for a few days 😅

Today I spread more mulch, destroyed a bunch of grass and weeds and fertilized a few plants. I have a vine of some kind that grows on the shed, and I've only just noticed, since seeing an old picture, how much it has died off! I will have to give it some tender loving care.

I have another few bushes that just did not survive such a dry summer and autumn but they may come back if i cut them right back. Thats another job to do. Everyone in town is burning off at the moment but I am just not confident enough to do that on my own. I just keep collecting dry sticks and putting them in my fireplace 😝
 
Remind me to take some of the cardboard from work up to the allotment tonight. I'm covering over a section that is just weeds. Going to leave it for this year and put raised beds on it next year. I killed most of the plants I had planned to do anyway!
Need to start getting the surviving ones out, got maybe 3 or 4 celeriac ones still alive, same amount of leeks. They just don't seem to grow after I repot them. I'm hoping my second try at cauliflower growing goes better, but it's not looking good, might put them in soon, before they get too leggy.
 
I haven't done any of the things I planned to from my previous post lol. The bulbs are just starting to sprout now, so I've left the poison option too late unless I want to kill them too, which I dont.
 
I popped up yesterday to water everything. Most dead or not germinated, got lettuce, garlic and carrots growing, but everything else is not good. Even my mint died!
I've resown beetroot and purple sprouting broccoli in the greenhouse so hopefully they'll grow and I can get them into the ground rather than repotting.
My mother has a cucumber plant for me as well, so hopefully that will survive in a grow bag rather than the ground.
 
Frost damaged my mallow. There are a few little ones on there, Im hoping they might grow a bit more before the plants really die off. I havent checked my pumpkins yet. Leeks are going well 🙂 all those bulby type things go so well here haha. Nothing wants to eat them!

I picked some thyme and should really utilise my herbs a bit more in cooking. I stopped for a while but have a few that would like some picking.

Gotta do a big home and garden shop soon. Not looking forward to that bill! But the shopping part will be fun, I can take Lilah 😀

Microwaving fresh herbs is a quick and easy way of drying them, and dried herbs keep quite a while. They just start to lose flavour, so you just use more!
Picked the last pumpkin today. Its 24C today with warm rain coming so I dont wana lose it to rot! Figured best to pick it and it can sit for a while.

Heaps of parsley popped up in one bed. Picked some and some plant thats gone to seed and a bit too past good to eat to put in a new garden bed/pile. Be a while before i plant anything in that. Its still got a foot or so to fill.

I want to get more asparagus. I have really enjoyed growing the asparagus that I have. Its not looking great in this frost but I think it will come back. That one is economical for me, costs a lot in the shop and I love it.
 
Went up after work yesterday and sown dwarf french beans. Got the strimmer out as well, and gave everything a good water. I've ordered some different compost, so I'm going to try to restart pumpkins in that when it's delivered. Mine are definitely dead, sweetcorn too, going to resow that as well this week.
I'm slowly getting the weeds area covered in cardboard.
When I go to the shop today I must get some pegs or zipties to secure the netting.
@November still haven't remembered the pen though!
 
Have got more compost, and will sow more seeds this evening. I did go to the allotment for 2 hours today and weeded between the lettuces and the garlic. Found an ants nest (yellow ants) next to the garlic so will need to be careful there. That's the second lot of ants I've found.
Planning to put my aubergines out this evening as well, nothing seems to grow much at home so hopefully it'll do better in the planter bags at the allotment. Cucamelon will be going out soon as well, and I'll have most of the living room back then.

@JustCallMeDarla how are your herbs doing?

Finding ants on your kitchen worktop is not good too.

My little babies are still alive! I think my balcony gets the perfect amount of sun. And it rained on days I forgot to water *tisk tisk* thanks mother nature!
 
I chopped the butts of some celery and lettuce, plus some capsicum seeds and rotton cherry tomatoes, so I've planted them all out. If they grow, bonus! If they dont...well they can be soil food. Moved some pots and pavers around. Pulled up some plants that are going nowhere

Did a heap of weeding too, its just glorious weather for that! Everything comes up so easily and the cool weather means I can just go and go and go. I only had to stop cos of hail. Its so nice to have rain and coolness! Everything is green again 😀
 
Aubergines got planted out and I saw that some of the red cabbages and kohlrabi have started to grow. My kale plug plants are due to arrive this week so tomorrow's job is to weed around the seedlings and create a weed free space for the kale. If I have time then I might look at putting some swede seeds down as well. I'll check my seed packets as I might give leek another go as well if I can clear enough ground of weeds.
I'm hoping that the dwarf french beans will germinate soon, they're heritage ones so be interesting to see how different they taste to shop bought ones.
I'm disappointed that none of the beetroot appear to have grown though.
 
Well my heritage tomato plant snapped over, so that got composted, however at the sharing shelf there was tomato plants so it's been replaced by a mystery variety!
The French beans are almost popping through the compost, another day or two and they will be out.
I haven't yet sown anything else, I may yet next week when I have more time. I still to plant the cucamelons out as well.
I'm pretty happy with what is going now,was getting overwhelmed it all, so many weeds, but now things are growing I can work around that!

The rain has awakened everything! Including the slugs sadly. I hope the lettuces and kales survive as I left them uncovered to let them get the rainwater as well. I did water the tomato plants as I'd rather keep those covered over for warmth. The replacement one does look like it might flower soon, the others are still small though.

I planted out some seedlings I picked up on a whim and at least half have been eaten by bugs now haha. So much mulch brings so many baby bugs. Gona put more mulch out today 🤣

I wish!!! Ha. Would make the work recovery much easier.

Just did some weeding and whippersnipping, its so fun in this weather! All the weeds are so soft and pullable. The whippersnipper just glides though like a hot knife through butter! Stark contrast to summer woody weeds!

Chopped some herbs back to encourage more growth and poked the snipped bits around the yard. If they take, they take. If not, worm food 🙂
 
Grrr caterpillars! They've demolished my redcurrant plant, so I picked them off and drowned them! That was the worst hit, but they've taken bites out of my French beans and radishes that were next to the redcurrant.
The strawberries are turning red now, so they're getting eaten at the allotment, only first year plants so not a huge amount of fruit, definitely plan to have several varieties of strawberries next year.
I bought two roses yesterday £20 each, which was a bargain given the company sells them for £30 usually (I might've looked it up afterwards!) Two different pink climbers, so I'll get my rose arch in a few years! Everything takes years!
I'm still battling the weeds, and I've lost a border to the grass now too. However I've discovered a cache of pallets so I plan on collecting a few of those to take apart and regain the border.
I've got one small section cleared, so I'll go through the seeds and then sow what I can in that, then I'm done sowing for the summer.

Bugs are annoying!

I hate brussel sprouts but there were some on the special rack the other day, near death, for 80c. I have planted a few in pots, and am nursing the others before I plant them out too. I have never grown them before but maybe bugs hate them as much as me?

I have two stalks of asparagus! Yay! One of my faves to grow and I definitely want to get more of that one day. Gotta pick some limes before they all drop off.

I duno the real name but my spikey bushes are just about in full flower. They dont flower until sub 0C temps and then they bloom all at once. They look like they've been snowed on when they flower, very pretty!
 
I have a courgette (zucchini) growing, first one I've seen this year.
The caterpillars and slugs have been at my red currant plants and the French beans. Not sure if I'll get anything from either of those this year.
I'm planning on doing Christmas potatoes, I wasn't planning to do any this year, but I've got enough space and time to clear the weeds from that space to do those, and then it'll be autumn garlic and onions. I don't think I'll get much from the current lot of garlic in, it all looks tiny and half dead!
