Im kinda meh about this. Its internation white middle class womans day. With pictures. Everywhere.
Well I might have a different take on supporting women. I think that women should be supported in all walks of life, so if there is a woman with less rights, women with more rights should be trying to lift the standards for her.
In Australia, I have seen a lot of "give more rights to the women who already have the most rights in the country" instead of "provide the same rights for women everywhere".
Film screenings have no impact on the poor - even the money (if donated) is usually swindled by morons.
Women 'can't keep quiet' on penalty rates at Melbourne rally
For example. This was the first link to come up on my search for "international womens day" news on google. I duno how to screen shot on my laptop, but there was not a single article on a women of colour or disabled.
Sorry but that is just so negative. The point of cinema is not to give answers to issues in sociality, but to make people think about them, and to highlight things which you otherwise wouldn't be aware of. Maybe it is different in Australia, but as for the idea of the day itself? I don't see anything bad about it. I wish we didn't need such things, but the sad reality is that we probably do.

Cinema cures all. The cure for international women and UK kids that don't get outside and play enough. What does cinema have to do with International Women's Day? Seriously, I don't get this. Especially considering the woman who are the most hard done by won't be able to see these movies. To me it stinks of snobbery.
