Has your opinion of Eliza changed any, since you found out she hunts? (Read the thread Eliza Dushku hunting animals - Buffy-Boards for more info.)

Since the other thread about it became more of a discussion about the pros and cons of hunting, let this be a thread to express how you feel this whole hunting-thing reflects on Eliza.
 
i voted better. gotta respect a girl who knows how to use a bow
 
Well, I am not big fan of hunting with bow and arrows.

But you will never be able to know what anyone really thinks and how they are as a person by interviews and such.
I have always liked her as an actress and I will continue to do so.

And it will definitely not affect the way I look at hers characters on screen!

I´m a bit torn. The fact that she hunt doesn´t bother me so much (if any), but the fact as she came off (personal opinion people) like it was just a "cool" thing to do disturbs me a little. And you hunters out there need to help me. Was that really an impressive performance she did? To me it felt like she really didn´t have the skill to actually go out and kill an animal the way I´d like it to be. And I guess that´s the combination that scares/annoys me.

But I could be wrong. Do this bothers me so much that I don´t like her anymore? Nope, but it didn´t push her up the scale.
 
I'm the one who voted "I don't know/care/other" - as to me it makes no difference what-so-ever what people do with themselves in their spare time - as long as they aren't wandering about with the intent to do harm to me or mine then I really don't care.

Eliza can go hunting in the woods with a bow, a bowie knife or a dinner fork for me, if that's what she's into, then good for her.

As for the poll - well, I didn't know she was into hunting before I read it as I didn't actually read the other thread (sorry!).
 
I don't know. I suppose when I first found out I was a little...iffy about her, I guess you could say. My dislike for hunting unavoidably effecting my opinion of her, but as a whole, it hasn't changed that much. I mean sure she does something I myself don't approve of, but lots of people do things I don't like. We all have different interests in opinions so that the fact she hunts is to me a separate issue to my like of her I guess.

What I'm saying is I don't like the fact she hunts, but I still think she's a great actress, and from what I've seen, presumably a great, fun person.

My opinion of her hasnt changed at all. I think it does again came down to if you are pro or anti hunting, if you dont like hunting then there is a good chance you dont like the people who do it only because they do it.
If she wants to hunt occasionally go for it, its not as if she is torturing animals for pleasure.
 
Well obviously it is a bit strange, and if I ever felt like she was a person I might want to be friends with (you know, if we lived in the same world), I don't anymore. But that doesn't mean I won't see her movies/shows..

While I usually don't care what people do with their off-screen time (to a point . . . there are a select few actors whose work I will NOT see because I refuse to support other projects they're doing on the side), I think it's nifty that Eliza is willing to try new things and that she found such joy in something that's stereotypically a "man's" thing. It's kind of like finding out that Vin Diesel used to play D&D. He's a nerd like us! And look what he's accomplished!

My opinion of Eliza has changed for the better, not because of her hunting, but because of the fact that she is honest about it and dosen't seem to feel that she needs to apologize to anyone for her actions.

To answer your question about hunting being cool, I have spent weeks in the woods and my greatest experiences came not from killing my quarry but from the doe looking over my shoulder while I was turkey hunting( I could have literally bent my arm and touched her), the chipmunk that ran over my hand, the falcon perched 20 ft above my head in the tree I was under. If you have never hunted, it is really hard to explain to someone and have them grasp that hunting is a total experience with killing the animal you are after being the sum result of everything working just right; snap a twig at the wrong time, shift your sitting position without knowing what is behind you, dozing off...The jig is up and you get the finger of the wild(White-tail deer warning to other deer and reminder to you by raising and waving their tail).

As to your concern over her shooting accuracy, there are far too many factors that would have had an influence on her shooting: Very long day and she was tired, previous practice shooting that tired her muscles causing her shooting form to be less than it normally is.... etc.

I can point out where errors occured, but those happen to every archer at some point and are usually a temporary set back and recovery is usually the next day. Another factor could have been mishandling of her equipment by others like bumping her sight.

Eliza hunting is a great thing and her willingness to talk about it is even better. I hope she continues to do so.

I grew up in a family of hunters, and even though I no longer do it, I learned a valuable lesson from hunting: how to sit still, be quiet, and really see what's around you. Useful skills in almost any endeaver.
No not the least. While im not big on hunting, if someone wants to do it then let them. One of the friends family is into hunting. Its not something I would see as that big of a deal.
 
Since I don´t know if you´ve read my post in the other thread I might sound like a broken record. I know this subject is way over my head, so if it seems like I´m stating my opinios as fact I apologize. Never my intent. This might not be helpful at all, but I´m giving it a try.

You might have misunderstood me. I didn´t say that hunters in general or even that Eliza thinks that way. Only that I got the impression that she thought so. Like someone thinks that smoking, riding motorcycles, getting tatoos or be into a certain band is cool. But it´t really nothing else than an impression. And lets face it, impressions are just impressions and nothing else. So one impression on one person. Nothing else, ok?

I know that there can be many reasons for her "result". But based on what we saw. Can you blame my initial reaction? Just curious since some people seem to think she showed great skill.

Errors occur everywhere ereryday. It´s just then it comes to the wellbeing of humans or animals I get more sensitive. I know the word "weelbeing" seems like an odd word to use since it´s about killing but you should all understand that I mean less suffering = good.


I think that being out in the wild/forest/nature is a great thing. More people should really try to experience that once in a while. I eat meat so someone has to hunt and kill animals. I just rather it is someone with the right skills to do so. I might be a hypocrite, but I just want as little suffering as possible. My granddad was a hunter. I never looked down on him or his friends. And elk do tastes good. This is just all about the feeling I got no matter how wrong it may be in the eyes of others.
