Is anyone else fed up of reading some of these comments? I dont want to simply close the comment window down because there are plenty of interesting things that people say in response to videos...but it just seems that Youtube is getting worse and worse. Constant bashing of peoples religion and country. Endless racist comments.

All I litterally have to do to prove this is go to any random video. Normally the last 10 comments will include a comment that would get you banned from any self respecting discussion group...so why is it tolerated here? Do you think its time for mod's on youtube? Is their any hope? Or is this just demonstrating how much hate people have for one another when left unchecked?

Really quite sad, its ruining youtube for starters.

I know what you mean. I think it just goes back to the fact that some people think that, when they're online, they can say anything. Being rude is being rude, you know? No matter where you say it.

they've implemented the comment rating system...which hasn't worked. Maybe use that system to ban peoples IP for a certain time period if they make a certain number of poor posts. There could also be a warning system in place before they are blocked. Or maybe have the ban just against making comments for a certain time period, so that youtubes profits dont suffer from people not being able to get on.

I do agree with you there.
I mean, I believe in freedom of speech and all but some of the things people say are just to provoke people and I think that's just stupid.
I have seen a lot of racist comments about a lot of music videos on youtube. Certain things saying stuff like 'All black woman are wh*res' which I find intensly disgusting especially as these will be videos that children can look at.

Well the thing with youtube is that it's just wayy to big a site to reasonably control. I mean, they even have trouble already with the uploaded video content, if they had to check all the comments they would be well busy for years. Espeially on the popluar videos comments pop up per minute.
Just banning people with a certain number of negatively rated comments wouldn't really work. As some of you might have experienced as well, sometimes you an write something really smart, polite and everything and everyone will still bash you because you don't agree with them and give your post bad rating. I wrote some negative critique to a Fuffy video once, it was constructive and everything, yet you won't believe at what rate that post was rated down.

Now, what bugs me even more than all the hate are those chain-comment thingies like "copy this 3 times and you'll find your true love". Anyone else majorly annoyed with those?

Same here, no ones alowed to disagree with the general opinion, or even to ask questions.
It's great that people can say what they like without any moderation, but it seems there's alot of assholes out there saying pointless, nasty stuff.

Hahaha! I'm one of the hatas a lot of the times. I'm glad there's no "mods", people can actually right how they feel.

Yes, but there is a difference between saying how you feel and hate speech. You can say how you feel about something without being hateful about it. Some people, I'm NOT saying you are one of them, take it to far.

Why would moderators not allow people to express their feelings? You can write feelings without being racist, sexist, etc. People who just spout their feelings without tact are looked at as ignorant and they will just be ignored.

Moderators would work, even for a site as big as youtube. Like any forum, have a chain of command and enough solid posters (the ratings system shows positives as well so you could use this data) and get enough of them to do the task. We have free speech here, free speech can still involve rules.

How many millions of people use youtube, how many millions of videos are out there people an comment on? You would need quite a few people to keep up. People who would probably want to get paid.

Its the same as any other massive forum...you could have an infinitely massive site and the theory works. You have a hierarchy system of mods that grows as the user numbers grow.

It does seem like they could do a better job than they have been though. Other widely used sites are much quicker about fixing problems. I made a stupid article on wikipedia one time and dressed it up to appear legitimate (as an inside joke for some friends) and it was deleted within a half hour.

Wait.....hold on....

Paid?!?

Buffy? BUFFY?!? We need to TALK!

The other mods have been getting paid for months. A memo was sent out to the rest of the board telling us to avoid the subject around you.

Paid??!! I'm in the que ;)
I've never paid any attention to ratings when I'm o there...now I want to go read some. There will always be people out there with hateful things to say but it is true that they often come across as ignorant, ridiculous and quite pathetic. The rest of us need to learn to ignore them because they WANT to get you upset. Sadly I don't think they can do a whole hell of a lot to control it on there.

Theres just no way they can monitor on youtube. Even with thousands and thousands of mods there would still be stuff that is missed.

TBH, thats a thing i like about youtube, you can say whatever you want without reprimand and while some people abuse it i would rather have that then a nazi regime where you cant say anything at all.

I think people dont understand how moderating works on a large scale. It doesn't have to limit freedom of speach either, enabling children to browse would be good enough.

i know it's terrible, people were writing cruel things about Jade Goody.
i think it's shocking, there should be something done about you tube.
