I very rarely read comments on youtube anymore. And I rarely leave them too. Although it still happens. Last time for Ambers Maccarena-dance. So to answer the initial question from Silum, yes I'm fed up with it. Not sure how to handle the problem though. Youtube is huge. Would need a lot of mods. Works in theory of course and maybe even practically but that I have my doubts about. At least work well. But a little is often better than nothing so they could at least try it. But what do I know? I'm 100% you Silum knows more about stuff like this so I say give it a try. 🙂
Why care what people are saying online or especially on youtube? You got your personal reasons but you also got the bigger picture. People are different. Some are like you (no matter who you are) but most aren't (to some degree) even though in your circle or friends it probably at least seems like you have a lot in common. Even though you rarely can be sure they are showing their real selves. People do a lot to try to fit in and if acting a certain way seems to be the way most teens (and a lot of adults) will do just that. Some people will live their whole life like that. But to get back on track. A lot of people will take offence by what others say no matter if it's in person or online no matter what some might think. Should they? That will people disagree on forever so lets just settle with the fact that people do. In the same way that a lot of people cares about what others think of them. Should they? Maybe, maybe not but a lot do.
It's only youtube, it's only words. Yes, it's words but only? Take bullying as an example. Getting beaten might hurt more at the moment than just being "told" things, and of course it can affect your whole life but if you think that words (or being ignored) don't affect people you're incredible naà¯ve. Which one hurts or affects people most? Once again, people are different. There's no universal answer. But both hurts, trust me.
Yes, it's only online/a site and there's bigger problems in the world to worry about. But there do one start if one wants to fix the problems? There do you think the lack of respect a lot of the youth of today show comes from? It magically starts at the age of 15? 18, 13, 10, 7? If you want people to learn certain values you have to start as early as possible. And just being a site or not if you allow people to act a certain way in one place you really think they won't take that behaviour elsewhere? Once again (how many times now?), people are different. Some might be able to just keep it in one place but not everyone. But, but why should everyone get punished just because some people can't take it? If you think being able to speak your mind in a decent manor is punishment then we got a whole new discussion. Kids do use youtube with or without adult supervision. But as been said already just because adults are in the room that don't mean that the kids don't have time to read a lot of what's being written. And why shouldn't kids be able to be online alone? Because they're too young for such language? But they are once they become teens? If this is the way to behave shouldn't they be shown that behaviour as early as possible? Not wanting them to see what's written shows that there's something wrong with that's being written in the first place. Because as we all know, once you get to a certain age you can handle everything in the right way"¦
It might sound like it but I don't mean that everything should be controlled and that teens shouldn't be allowed to rebell but to have a base consisting of respect for other people isn't wrong in my eyes.
Being able to say what you want is fine and all but that really don't mean you have to put it any way you want or any place you want. So just because you're scared too say "kill all blacks" in a middle of a group of black people you should be able to say it online where no one knows how you are? Ah, that's right. You don't think people care, or at least should care, about what is being said online. Good thing that you now want to decide or tell people how to think. You need to get these things out write a personal diary or something. No wait. That don't work because if you do no one will see how "cool" you are"¦The things people do to get attention (which really comes from wanting to be loved, but lets not get into that now). As it's been stated before, if people didn't care people would stop posting things like this.
Harm: You haven't got anything good from being nice to other people? That makes me wonder how much you've tried. Being nice to people won't make people being 100% nice to you back. But in the long run you will notice that it can pay off more often than you think. Being nice once don't mean that everyone will start acting nice right away. Not like going to the gym once gets you into shape. Pay off often takes time no matter what it's about. Even though it would be great to always have instant pay off for everything you do right? 😉 Trying to be nice once and again don't mean you have to become a door mat everyone walks over or take advantage of all the time but you will come a long way with a little respect and consideration.
