Fair enough. I came on a little strong. Let's just forget it
There have definitely been times when I hated my favorite characters. Like Kean, though, I feel like hate is a pretty strong word, so it doesn't always apply for me...

I seriously hated Buffy's attitude in Season 7. She so blinded by her feelings for Spike and her need to beat The First that her humanity sort of left when it came to anything else. She was so rude to a lot of the Potentials, and the way she treated Giles after "Lies My Parents Told Me" was horrible. She was trying too hard to be the hard-ass leader, and it pissed me off.

I was so upset with Xander for leaving Anya at the altar. I can get past the "Kick his ass" moment, and I can totally understand his anger at Buffy in "Dead Man's Party", two more of his worst moments within the show. But leaving Anya at the altar definitely hurt me. I understand why he did it, which is why I won't say I hate him for it, but it definitely shook me up the first time watching. He had all those feelings and insecurities before the demon showed him those visions; he should have discussed it with Anya beforehand and called off the wedding, if he wasn't ready.

Willow... OMG. I absolutely LOVED Willow up until Season 5. After Season 5, she just turns into someone I can't stand. She's arrogant and stubborn when it comes to magic, and the writers just totally ruined her for me when she became Dark Willow.

I hated Giles for administering The Council's test on Buffy in Season 3's "Helpless". I was so angry at him over that.

Angel's actions in Season 8 pretty much ruined that character for me. I know he's killed people before, but
killing Giles
sent me over the edge with him.

Agree with every word!
Well to be fair Warren did kill one of the Scooby members and almost killed Buffy. So why would they care? also shouldn't this also apply to Gunn and Fred killing the Professor just because he sent Fred to Pylea a couple years ago?

So that makes it okay? Also, I thought no one knew about that but Fred and Gunn, right? I honestly don't remember a lot of details from Angel haha Buffy inhabits about 90% of my head space. I mean they both seemed to feel terrible about it but I don't remember it being brought up again, which is also kind of ridiculous. But I guess you could say the same thing about Buffy putting Faith in a coma...but I wouldn't. That was slightly different because no one could deal with Faith but Buffy. Warren could have gone to prison, sure that doesn't always end well in terms of justice...and I understand why Willow killed him, but it was still wrong.

---------- Post added at 02:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ----------

um Warren killed the love of Willow's life, yes it's murder but it's also Karma for Warren. Why are we defending an egotistic murdering pig? also why does Angel get the exception? he's still a murderer with or without the soul

Saying that someone doesn't deserve to be murdered...isn't defending them. I don't see the point in killing someone because they killed someone, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Also, Willow wasn't in her right mind when she killed him. What she did wasn't rational, it was done out of rage, and any person with a shred of decency would feel some type of regret after ripping a man's skin off. Even if he did something absolutely disgusting and horrible, I would still feel bad. I mean I doubt it would keep me up at night for the rest of my life, eventually I'd get over it or come to terms with it...but I just found it odd that Willow never really seemed to deal with what she did, at all. I don't count The Killer in Me as dealing with it because that episode is a joke. An unpleasant one that didn't make me laugh, grr! I mean Willow is more of a murderer than Angel...seeing as Angel technically wasn't conscious when Angelus killed all of those people.

Of course killing completely innocent people is totally different than killing someone who murdered a loved one, I just found it slightly irritating that they always made jokes about veiny Willow and it just...bothered me.

...but I just found it odd that Willow never really seemed to deal with what she did, at all.

I thought that her trip to England was all about dealing with what happened at the end of season 6.

As I recall it she was full of regret. Wasn't she even so afraid to meet her friends again, after all the terrible things she had done, that she somehow become invisible for them in the episode 'Same Time, Same Place'?

Will also remember that she spent most of season 7 being scared of using magic again.

Never felt like she just shrugged it off and went on with her life to me.

Hate may be a strong word to use. Maybe mad at your favorite characters...

'Mad' may be a better word... I'm not sure I can recall a time I was MAD at a favorite character.

Wes in "Billy".... Don't like that he didn't catch on to the blood he touched being tainted and couldn't maintain a hold on himself, and yet Gunn could. (But, I do LOVE gunn for that!!!!)

Riley for going to the vamp sucking den to feel "needed"

Well Willow did seem cautious, but her friends didn't seem...as cautious. I don't know, I just remember them condemning every single member of the group who had killed someone, at some time or another. I thought the England trip was more about learning how to use magic without overdoing it, or about harnessing her power or...whatever. I also wasn't fond of the whole "it's a part of you now!" thing. It kind of defeated the whole drug metaphor purpose. If she really was "addicted", she shouldn't use magic like...ever again. It almost seemed as if the writers couldn't give her anything else to do so they thought, "well whatever we can work this magic thing in there again".

I love Spike but I feel ashamed of him in (I think) I was made to Love You - when he goes to the magic box and tries to ingratiate himself with the gang after holding Buffy hostage and declaring his love for her. It's just such a stupid, transparent thing to do. I'm glad they send him on his way in no uncertain terms.

I always thought that it was both to teach and to help willow deal with what she did

Transcript version
Giles is riding a horse through the English countryside. Then we see him walking through a field to a tree that Willow is sitting under. She is looking at the ground making an exotic flower grow and bloom.

GILES
That doesn't belong there.

WILLOW
No, it doesn't.

GILES
That's the flora kua alaya. A native of Paraguay, if my botany serves.

WILLOW
Is there anything you don't know everything about?

GILES
Synchronized swimming. Complete mystery to me.

Moves closer.

GILES
Yep. Paraguay. Where does it come from?

WILLOW
Paraguay.

GILES
Who brought it through the Earth?

WILLOW
It's all connected. The root systems, the molecules...the energy. Everything's connected.

GILES
You sound like Miss Hartness.

WILLOW
She's taught me a lot.

GILES
Then why aren't you in your lesson?

WILLOW
Sorry.

GILES
It's alright. She was just—

WILLOW
—afraid. Yeah, they all are. The coven is—they're the most amazing women I've ever met. But there's this look that they get. Like I'm gonna turn them all into bangers and mash, or something. Which I'm not even really sure what that is.

GILES
They're cautious. I trust you understand that.

WILLOW
I don't have that much power, I don't think.

GILES
Everything's connected. You're connected to a great power, whether you feel it or not.

WILLOW
Well you should just take it from me.

She gets up and storms off, angry at herself. They walk toward a building.

GILES
You know we can't. This isn't a hobby or an addiction. It's inside you now, this magic. You're responsible for it.

WILLOW
Will they always be afraid of me?

GILES
Maybe. Can you handle it?

WILLOW
I deserve a lot worse. I killed people, Giles.

They stop and look at each other.

GILES
I've not forgotten.

WILLOW
When you brought me here, I thought it was to kill me or to lock me in some mystical dungeon for all eternity or—with the torture. Instead, you go all Dumbledore on me. I'm learning about magic. All about energy and Gaia and root systems.

GILES
Do you want to be punished?

WILLOW
I wanna be Willow.

GILES
You are. In the end, we all are who we are, no matter how much we may appear to have changed.

Shooting script version

Giles comes to Willow and her flower, which is finished.

GILES
That doesn't belong there.
She doesn't look back at him. Just quietly agrees:

WILLOW
No, it doesn't.

GILES
Passafloracoerulea, native to
Paraguay, if my botany serves.

He sits by her.

WILLOW
Is there anything you don't know
everything about?

GILES
Synchronized swimming. Complete

know all.
(examining the flower)
Yes, Paraguayan. Where did it come
from?

WILLOW
Paraguay.

GILES
You brought it through the earth.

WILLOW
It's all connected. The root
systems, the molecules, the energy...
everything's connected.

GILES
You sound like Ms. Harkness.

WILLOW
She's taught me a lot.

GILES
Then why aren't you at your lesson?

WILLOW
I'm sorry.

GILES
It's all right. She was just afraid
you --

WILLOW
Had gone evil? Yeah, I was gonna
destroy the world, but lunch made me
sleepy.

She offers the jest meekly, not being glib.

GILES
She didn't think that. She was
just --

WILLOW
Afraid. They all are. The Coven
is... they're the most amazing women
I've ever met. If it wasn't for
them, and you... But there's this
look they get, like I'm gonna turn
them all into bangers and mash or
something. Which I'm not even
sure what that is.

GILES
They're cautious. I trust you can
understand that.

WILLOW
I don't have that much power, I don't
think. I was... drained by what
happened.

GILES
But everything's connected. You're
connected to great power, whether you
feel it or not.

WILLOW
You should just take it from me.

She rises. He follows.

GILES
You know we can't. This isn't a
hobby, or an addiction. It's inside
you now, this magic. You're
responsible for it.

WILLOW
Will they always be afraid of me?

GILES
Maybe. Can you live with that?

WILLOW
I deserve a lot worse.

GILES
That's not an answer.

WILLOW
I killed people, Giles.

GILES
I've not forgotten.

WILLOW
When you brought me here... I thought
it was to kill me. Or lock me in
some mystical dungeon for all
eternity, or with the torture...
instead, you go all Dumbledore on me,
I'm learning about magic, I'm all
about energy and gaia and root
systems.

GILES
Do you want to be punished?

WILLOW
(tearing up)
I wanna be Willow.

GILES
You are. In the end, we are all who
we are -- no matter now much we may
appear to have changed.

In both versions what Joss tryed to covey that Willow was being rehiblated though learning about the real eccence of magic and that now because she embuled herself with magic that its a part of her internaly now

Alright, I'll give you one precious moment of pure, undiluted hatred, no problem.

Buffy

There are many moments in the show when Buffy drives me insane but what she does in the comics just takes the cake. I'm talking about the infamous what about me? line from "Turbulence". What Buffy's really saying is: all those years you were by my side, helping me not because you are a good person who wants to do the right thing but because you want me, you want to have sex with me and now when you've finally found somebody I can't kill I might give you a chance. This is the single most degrading line in the entire franchise because Buffy basically equates Xander to Spike, a soulless vampire. And you know what's particularly sad? She really believes that she still has a chance with this guy, never mind that she's not in his league, she expects him to dump and/or cheat on her own sister because she's suddenly interested. Can you get any more delusional than this? What an unbelievable bitch. See, nothing's changed, deep down Buffy's still a shallow cheerleader with emotional maturity of a stereotypical, brainless, horny teenager.

Willow

Again, many moments in the show but again, comics take the cake. Say, you have a best friend, you know her history, you know that her last uh...boyfriend tried to rape her and ever since she's been lonely, almost 3 years now. So anyway, your best friend goes to bed with somebody who is:

1. Not evil, homicidal, psychotic etc.
2. Alive
3. Actually younger than her, like, how is this even possible?!

What do you do? Naturally, you say something along these lines - Woohoo Buff! I'm happy for you hon, she's a nice girl and I'm sure she'll respect you. Sounds sensible right? Something a best friend, like Buffy in "New Moon Rising" for instance, would say, right? No, of course not. Willow goes all thinly-veiled lesbian biphobia on her because Buffy's apparently not gay and Willow, being an outstanding example of pure gayness is completely sure of that, I mean, it's not like she was all about men until she's met than one, special lady, you're born gay or straight, you die gay or straight, right, you gotta have a label and stick to it, right?

What a bitch.

Xander

"Into the Woods", 'nuff said. Riley cheated on Buffy, with a nameless corpse on the top of that and Xander acts like he wants his penis or something. Does Xander want his penis? If he does he could at least be honest about it. If not he's just a misguided dumbass.

Spike

Wait, Spike's not my favorite character, I hate that boring, lame-ass poseur. Oh well, every reason to hate Spike is a good reason, right? Two words - "Normal Again". Threatening an ill and obviously weakened person like he does in this episode is beyond disrespectful, it's disgusting and repulsive. I mean, what a sodding son of a dirt. And people say he loved her? Unbelievable. It's like...I hate Spike, that is all.

Giles

What kind of a watcher leaves his slayer when she needs help more than ever? The worst kind obviously, ladies and gentlemen it's Rupert Giles, the worst watcher ever. You know that Merrick would stay. He would offer his humble smile, do everything in his power to help Buffy get through hard times. Because unlike Giles, he was the real deal, the only real watcher she's ever had.

Yes.

Buffy in the entire fifth season from the end of "No Place like Home" onward.
Spike in the middle of season six ("Wrecked" until "As You Were").
Angel and Cordelia while 'In love' with each other.
Everybody except Buffy, Spike, Caleb, The First, and Andrew in "Empty Places"

Spike's my favourite character, so that leaves plenty of options. That said, I don't think I ever really hate characters in general, I just get sort of disbelieving that they can be so wrong. Spike in 'Crush' and other S5 stalker creepiness (talking to the mannequin, smelling her undies). Whenever he is cruel in S6 (You came back wrong, belong in the dark blah blah). AR.

Hm, I actually did hate Oz (and the writers) when he left Willow, because it was totally random and not very well done at all.

Buffy while in her sexual "I wanna feel something" relationship with Spike defiantly was a tough time for me and Buffy... Hmmmm

The Scoobies when they first found out that Angel was back, they owed Buffy the chance to set things straight before they went all hissy fit on her ass lol

Xander in Hell's Bells. You all know why.

Spike when he was about to rape Buffy.

Everyone in Empty Places. Why? Because everyone turns against Buffy and they throw her out of her own house!

OMG, the whole gang (cept buffy) in empty places, it was so out of character and i just wanted to be like seriously after everything THIS is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I mean even though she's not exactly silent about it buffy has made sacifices and saved all their lives on several occassions whilst risking her own.It was just such a WTF moment. i cant even write about it now without getting emotional
*breath*

Connor when he kills the innocent girl for Evil!Cordy. Everything else that Connor does, I can accept and I can understand the reasons why he did what he did - even when he sleeps with Cordelia. But that moment, when he takes the life of an innocent person, when he already knows that Cordelia is bad news. I hated him in that second.

Spike in Seeing Red. I just can't get over how much I hated him even though he was my favorite character up until that point.

Willow when she takes Dawn to Rack's place instead of the movies and then she crashes the car. I just hated her then because what she did was so stupid.

Xander in Into the Woods giving Buffy that speech about not letting Riley get away. He had no right to butt in and didn't even know what the full story was. He should have just shut up.

Same goes for everyone in Dead Man's Party. No one cared how Buffy felt at all and it was all about them and their issues.

Just about everyone in Empty Places for kicking Buffy out of her own home. I wanted to strangle them all.

Giles when he tried to have Spike killed by Wood. That wasn't the Giles I'd grown to love.

I'm sure I can think of more but everyone else has already stated most of them.

Buffy: "Spike has tried to kill me numerous times but I am feeling jealous and vulnerable when my ex douche of a boyfriend comes back to sunnydale with his man-faced new wife so I think we should sleep together instead of fighting"

Oz: "No Willow even though you are practially as cute as a button you don't have a say in me leaving at all as it is for your own good but I will swing by later after I have done the how to not eat your girlfriend every so often class and get pissed of when you get a new girlfriend and I will smell her"

Cordelia: "I am gonna date Xander for a while and then when i get bored I am gonna dump his ass when he gives me a beautiful necklace and he being such a sweetie gets all dressed up"

I have nothing bad to say about Xander and Willow I don't think that there is anything they have done to make me hate them - I LOVE THEM!!!

"I love you Willow I love crayon-breaky Willow I love scary veiny Willow so if your gonna kill the world your gonna have to start with me" 😉

Xander in Hell's Bells. You all know why.

Spike when he was about to rape Buffy.

Everyone in Empty Places. Why? Because everyone turns against Buffy and they throw her out of her own house!

I agree with pretty much everything here.
Xander in Hell's Bells - While I can understand his fear, with parents like his I can't even imagine how many deep-rooted issues he has but Xander isn't stupid when it comes to things like this, he is supposed to be the heart, and according to Caleb the one who sees everything, one of my favourite Xander moments is his speech to Dawn after the whole potential slayer spell thing. After seeing him come back to the wedding I really thought he was had formed a resolve, to marry Anya and do everything he could to be the best husband he could be, but no...he runs away...

Spike when he was about to rape Buffy - Definitely hated Spike after this but I think it had to happen, I don't think there was anything strong enough, anything else so horrific that could have forced Spike to make the decision to get his soul back. and although it has absolutely nothing to do with the character for some reason James Marsters comment on the scene definitely made it easier to forgive the act.

Everyone in Empty Places. Why? Because everyone turns against Buffy and they throw her out of her own house - Especially Xander I hated him in this again...pretty much right after he himself gave an awesome speech to the potentials about Buffy he does a complete 180 because Caleb took out his eye and even though I said especially Xander I really didn't like many others in this either however it did allow me to enjoy a fantastic Spike moment when he returns to find they've thrown Buffy out.
