Heath Ledger was found dead

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions yet guys. His family have come out and said it was an accidental overdose on sleeping pills. If this is true then he didn't plan it any more than someone plans to get hits by a car. I don't think it's fair to start name calling when nothing has been confirmed and even then why would we? It's a tragic loss no matter what the circumstance.

My friend told me that this was on the radio this morning. It was really hard for me to believe so I had to read it on the news. I'm really shocked! He was so young and with a 2 year old daughter and all that.
I've been quite a big fan of his since 10 things I hate about you.... and Sweat (wow, I feel old). From the reports, it doesn't sound to me like he was a junkie or that he commited suicide. All I can say is that I'm shocked.

I just saw his family and friends on the news, His family found out about his death from the media. 🙁 poor people. I wonder if he will be brought back to perth for the funeral? All reports I have heard said his death was accidental. I guess we will find out soon enough. His school friends are having a memorial service sometime soon. That is the second hi profile guildford grammar boy to die in recent months. The other was a well known tv presenter and footy player in WA. Also drug related.. So sad, I wasnt really a huge fan but I do feel for his family.

That is awful about his family finding out. I really hate the media--they just interfere with peoples lives too much sometimes
Such a young age to die. It's just so sad to see someone's life end like that. Such a shame that he won't be able to see his daughter grow up, and that his daughter has to grow up not knowing her father.

Just so, so sad.

So, first Brad Renfro, and now Heath Ledger. This is just so effing messed up. What a tragic waste.

My deepest condolences to the ones he left behind.

Rest in peace, young man.

My boyfriend and I saw this yesterday, and it really hit home because we saw the years 1979-2008 and i turned to him and said "he was YOUR age!" yeah, it really put some things into perspective.

Also, we are both huge batman fans, and were iffy on him being the Joker, but of course can't miss the movie... but now we realized how depressing it's going to be to go see it.

I really discovered Heath from Brokeback Mountain, i thought he was amazing. It's terrible.

it is hard when you can relate an age like that--my brother will be 29 next week, way too young to die
I was so shocked when I heard this news. You hear about things like this happening all too often but it was a real shock to hear that it was Heath Ledger who had died!!

I just hope his family are ok. It must be awful to live through something like this without the added interference of the media.

Agreed.

As far as the media goes....apparently,someone thinks it's cool to blame everything but the sun for his passing, and it's been less than 24 hours since Heath died. And it'll still be longer than that before we get some definitive answers.

But it didn't take long for this guy to enter the idiot realm...no,not your normal regular morning shock jock...it's Fox News' John Gibson:

Think Progress

Thank you for your post, ckg927.

I think the term "idiot" when in reference to "Gentleman" John Gibson, is being a little too kind.

Seriously speaking, I don't care how one feels about a person, people need to show a little f***ing respect when it comes to the passing of others.

You're right, they do...but in these times, saying outrageous stuff will only get you noticed. It should,in a just society, also get you shunned.
Rest assured,though....this brand of idiocy has been duly noted not only by us,but also by MSNBC's Keith Olbermann-who awarded Gibson Worst Person In The World honors for Jan. 23. Usually,Keith announces the honor at the end of the segmet in a very theatrical way....but,if what the "honoree" does POs him enough,he won't do it. And he didn't last night.

This is so sad. And to make matters worse, (this is what I heard on the radio this morning) there's a church group in Topeka Kansas I believe that plans on protesting any kind of memorial service for him because he portrayed a gay character in a movie and should therefore go to hell. No wonder people think so poorly of Christians and people from the mid-west! We're not all like that, I promise (I'M not at least). These are the same people who have gotten in trouble in Oklahoma (I don't know about other states) for pickiting the funerals of soldiers who died in Iraq because, according to them, gays in the military are responsible for the war. Can someone in Kansas please go kick their butts?

Heath Ledger was a phenominal actor and one of my favorites, although I have to admit Brokeback Mountain just wasn't a movie I found appealing at all. I pray for his family and wish them the best in this difficult time. I was truly shocked when I saw that he had passed.

What? Protesting having a memorial because he played a gay character in a movie? That's insane!

That's why I don't bother going to church. I'd rather love God in my own way then have to listen to people who think they are so high and mighty but aren't.

That cult (I wouldn't even call them a church)...just sick. I'd like to think that almost everyone in America has the urge to personally beat the crap out of them. Even nice old grandmas 🙂

I'm tempted to drive up there myself and give them a piece of my mind! Tell them that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and the like. I don't see how anyone could be that mean and rude to a grieving family, because that's what they are doing. They are rubbing salt in the wounds of those who are hurting most and those who need support most. People need to be nice to others, that is what being a Christian is all about. Not being rude a-holes.

Sorry, discussion got a little off topic there...my fault.

The only thing I have to say about Gibson and that Baptist group is this...They are gowls!...that is pretty much the worst thing you can call someone in Ireland if you really mean it and I do!. What they are doing is sick and twisted...ok I need to leave this thread now before I lose my temper..

I jumped to some conclusions at the beginning and hoped, for the sake of the family, that it wasn't suicide or recreational overdose. I feel bad about that now. I'm glad to find out I was wrong. Both of those possibilities just sort of hit a nerve with me.

Anyway, even having had some pretty negative feelings about it myself at the beginning, I've got to say that Gibson and this church group are totally wrong. A family and anyone else who cared about a person should have the right to mourn that person in peace -- no matter how that person lived or died. I think I was out of line for jumping to conclusions earlier, but the mind boggles to contemplate how far out of line Gibson and this church seem! I feel sorry for the family and wish them well.

I read about those people boycotting his funeral. If they knew so much about the bible, they should know that nobody can pass judgement on anybody but God. Some of these christians kill me, for real. I used to be into church and I wasn't that way at all. They need to sit the **** down with all their nonsense. They give christians everywhere a bad name and that's why people don't even go to church anymore.

Those Westboro people make me sick. They are also protesting the funeral for that pregnant Marine that died. When I lived in PA last year the town lost a local teen in the war. The wake was at the funeral home next door to my house and we heard though the grape vine they were going to protest his funeral. I was so ill thinking about it.

I heard that half the town had agreed to meet them at the town line and send them packing and the police probably would have been conveniently busy on the other side. They were prepping for a royal butt whupping from what I heard. They never showed up, though.

Fred Phelps and his cult, uh church...no cult is the correct word are the most hateful, racist people I have ever heard of. Their website is called, "God Hates America" and then he has the other one called "God Hates F@gs" It is sick. They carry signs that say "Thank God for dead soldiers" Some day their church is going to go up in smoke and the rest of the country will celebrate.

And I am not normally a hateful person but these people are so vile I can't contain my distaste.

And what a surprise....MSNBC's The Scoop devoted its column to this today, and it quoted a source close to the family thusly: "Wow,this should make his family feel great. I seriously don't understand what is wrong with people. This is the last thing his family needs."

It also notes that Gibson was contacted in an effort for him to explain his remarks, but he declined.

Maybe because A. he truly has no shame,or B. higher-ups at Fox News are reading him the riot act. For the sake of decency, let's hope it's the latter.

He also has a 'God hates Ireland'...but I won't get into that because it tends to make me psychotic...Sky News did an expose on them in 2005 after they said that they wished that a million Londoners had been killed in the 7/7 bombings...they are described as a hate group...personally I think that is an unbelievably kind and gracious way to refer them...I genuinely believe these people are evil. They have to be.
