Hey guys and girls. I am Mr Trick. Originally I come from a Hell Hole named Peterborough (haven't heard of it? Didn't think so), but am currently based in the much more friendly, and culturally city of Brighton, where I am in the final year of a Film and Screen studies degree.

Buffy wise I have been a fan of the show for about four years now having got into it through watching the repeats on the Sci-Fi channel. My favourite character might be Spike, but the likes of Willow, Xander, and Drusilla all give him a run for his money. My favourite season is 3, and favorite episode over all is Restless. I like it because it was such a different, and creepy way to end the a season. I love the surreal and playful tone of the episode, and think they get the mix of light and dark just perfect. It is also a great episode because of the way it bookmarks a certain ending of a period of the show, while teasing some of what is still to come. And of course it reminded me of Twin Peaks which makes it cool too!

I am always trying to get new people into the show, including some of my class mates many who sadly are not clued up to its greatness. Mind you my Mum does like it which I guess just shows Buffy's broad appeal as she just turned 70 recently, and some of my tutors also love it.

Anyway, this seems a friendly place, so I look forward to posting here, and to making new friends.

WHAAAAT, some of your classmate in film studies haven't seen Buffy. That is blasphemy!

haha sorry for my manners, welcome to the board! I'm an Ontario girl myself! 😀 Great choice with Restless, it may be my favorite episode also, or at the very least it's in my top 5!

Thanks a lot Blaze! Think some of them have seen it but didn't really get into it, many possibly have not seen it, and just dismiss it as another teen show. It really bugs me that one of my mates does that, and that he has never seen an episode. Yet when I tell him what a broad appeal it has he just doens't listen. But then again he doesn't like the Muppets! So I guess there is just no helping some people.

What is your favourite season by the way? And character(s)?

ahh, I've met my fair share of people who won't give BtVS a chance. It's quite a shame, because as you said some are people who have never even seen an episode. I'm sure in our modern day people dismiss it even more because of all the vampire stuff like TVD and Twilight.

As for my favorite season, it would be the controversial s6 😛 but my second fav is s3, so good choice there! As for favorite character I have quite a few that I love. Faith, Tara, Buffy are my top 3. Did you also watched Angel?

Think part of it with narrow minded people (and a thing with students) is that because we now live in a age where TV is seen as films equal and because of all these stylish and edgy new shows then something like Buffy gets dismissed. But for me it really is up there.

Good choices for the characters. Think Tara is really underated, at first the charcter took a bit of getting into, but by S6 she had fully blossomed, and had some beautiful moments with Willow, not least in Once More With Feeling. Her performance of Under You're Spell gets me everytime. Actually just finished Angel for the first time last week. Really enjoyed it. It was a slow start with the first couple of seasons a little hit and miss, but from season three onwards it really hooked me. And the final episode was awesome. Season 4 is my favourite.

I'm pretty new here myself but welcome 🙂 this is an odd question but I was just going to ask what your film studies course is like? I was thinking about doing one myself when I go to college soon and i don't know of anyone who has done it. I'm a big fan of Spike myself and I've had the same issue of trying to get my friends to like Buffy too, people don't know what they're missing! Anyway have fun posting I'm only starting to get used to the site myself but it's a great place to see everyone's opinions!

For me the film studies degree course I am doing is just about right, as it focuses more on the cricial side of the subject which is where I am hopeing to end up. Really its just a well rounded degree which looks at various thoeries (some a little too full on!), critical view points, the historical side of the subject, and well as some of the techical aspects. The staff are friendly also. The city I am studying was a big part of my choice of UNI, which I would say to you should be a factor in your choice. Of course things will be different when studying in the states than here. But really it was an important decision which I had to make to open up new doors and experience new things. Hope it works out for you, and thanks for the reply.

The course I'm looking at sounds similar it's more so the critical side and theoritical side of films rather than production. I'm really interested in it anyway and your course sounds quite good. Yea it will be different as I'm in Ireland but I'm looking into the city where I'd be studying and I think I would really like it so hopefully it will all work out. Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's nice to hear someones opinion about it 🙂
