High Rez HouseHold Symbols...?

I'm currently working on a very cool side project for Buffy-Boards and need to know if there are any high resolution images of the House Hold Symbols available?
I also need to know if there is a specific symbol that is used for "Buffy-Boards" in general?

QUESTION:
Is there any reason Merrick's House Symbol doesn't have a Helm at the top of it's shield like the others do?
It seems a little un-balanced without one.

I found it when I Googled "Helm of Higher Learning"...seems to work.

I didn't design them, so I don't really know, but I don't think there's a reason. The idea was to make ones ourselves that were our own creation not using copyrighted images.

Well, I made a bit of a mistake...
I posted an inquiry to Both Faith and Angelic Slayer before I saw the request NOT to post to Faith...my bad.

I would still like to know about a possible addition to the Merrick Shield...I'll work on my patience and wait to hear what A.S. has to suggest.

I created the designs for two of our house crests (as well as the new crest with all 4 dorms), but the Merrick and Raiden Crests were actually created by Lyri to use for the Board Graphics/BB Store. Now I can't speak for her, but I would guess that the reason there isn't a helmet at the top is image availability. Any base images that we used had to be free for commercial use (and not copyrighted, as Darla mentioned) so if we only found 3 shields with helmets on them, we were only going to have 3 crests with them included. At the time we were focused on giving each dorm there own individualized Coat of Arms, we weren't worried about them all necessarily matching. 🙂

As for the possibility of changing the Coat of Arms I would be inclined to leave it as it is for now. Lyri made a great design for Merrick and it might not be quite as traditional as the others, but it does have a little extra "artsy flair" as a result. And since so far the folks in Merrick seem to like their crest, I think we'd be best not to fix something that isn't necessarily broken 😉

I was just speaking with Lyr and she said pretty much what you did AS 🙂

Just as a member of Merrick I have to say that I really love our COA and honestly would hate to see it changed.

Point taken. I'm not looking to change anything up, it just has an incomplete feel to it when compared to the others and I'm sure you realize that there are books full of non-copywrit "heraldic" clip art that could be altered slightly and used (I know because I own several)
I understand that the subject matter can be very touchy to those that took the time to put them together in the first place but I was inquiring for informational reasons and in the hopes of getting the best possible images I could for my proposal. I have no intentions of using these images for my banners.
If I want to change up the Merrick Coat of Arms for my proposal however, I'll simply make my own image from scratch and leave it to "The powers that be" to accept or reject it as they see fit.

If the Merrick COA got changed in any way I'd be one very pissed off Merrickan! I love it, and even more so the fact it's different from the others - just proves we're that little bit better 😉

I can't speak for Lyri, of course, but as an artist I feel you would be stepping on toes to change something that someone else created. I know that if it was me who created these crests, and someone came along and kept insisting that it would look "better" if it was changed, I'd take a little bit of offense to that.
I'm not trying to be rude, but I feel it's a little bit disrespectful to the artists to keep insisting that it would look better with that helmet on the crest and state that you're going to put it on there anyway, even though someone has already said you should just leave it the way it is. Everyone seems to love how their house crest looks. Why try to fix something that isn't broken?

And to be clear, I already mentioned that it was a proposal that could be rejected and I don't see anything rude in offering observations.
I don't know a single artist who's worth their salt that can't take a little critique now and then.

Not at all. I was simply suggesting an up-grade, not trying to insult anyone.

Fair enough but a lot of us are attached to our our houses and those crests for a lot of different reasons. They are very new as it is and a lot of work and dedication went into the making of them. Hence the outcry 😉

Hopefully you continue on with the project with the crests as they are. 🙂
