I wanted Buffy to win too. But in a way, I think Cordelia needed it more. It's great that Buffy wants to be something other than a Slayer, she wants something else to be recognized for. But Cordelia needed it because it's the kind of thing she was working for her entire life. She's popular, she needs to know she's loved, even if she's not really, she needs those titles to feel better with herself. For Buffy it was a one time thing. For Cordelia it was a legacy, something she'd be remembered by. Buffy could pick up the yearbook one day and know she was in high school once. Cordelia could pick up the yearbook one day and know she was loved. Buffy was chosen for something. Cordelia needed to be chosen as well. It's true that she's won those things before. But that's why she needs this title. She's addicted to those titles, not to just one moment. It's sad that she needs titles to feel loved and popular, yes. But that's what makes her feel good. She said once that being surrounded by many people who don't really care what she's saying is better than being all alone. You could argue that, but that's how she feels. Being popular is what she knows by that time.
What I really feel is, for Buffy is not really important. Hell, she could be dead tomorrow.
I did want Buffy to win. I love her better. And Cordelia's dress was really ugly IMO. During the episode watching, I always root for Buffy. But according to what I said, Cordelia NEEDED it more.
Overlall, it was a bit ridiculous, it almost tore Buffy and Cordelia's "friendship" apart, they literally tore each other apart. But I feel that for Cordelia it wasn't ridiculous. Want it or not, she lived high school. She lived those stuff. It was her world.
That's how I view it. I mean from now, that I actually think about.
