Hot Topic: Would Faith have made a good part of the AI team?

I think that Faith serves the same role that Angel or even Gunn does. Angel is the leader, so Faith doesn't need to be there for that, Gunn is the extra muscle, although Faith is stronger. Also, Spike is in season 5. I don't think she would actually add that much to the team that the others don't already do. I would have loved for Faith to be a recurring character in season 5 though. Just to see what she was up to and interact with Angel. I love their friendship. I do think Faith has some great comedic moments, but again, there Spike. If for nothing else Faith would have been a good female character to add to season 5 besides Fred/Illyria.
 
It would have been interesting but I don't think she'd work as a regular. To have a Slayer on the spin-off of the show about THE Slayer, seems like it may be confusing for viewers who don't know the verse so well. For me personally, I enjoy Faith's appearances in Angel a lot, but it would feel lazy to have another character over from Buffy, again. Too much of a good thing dilutes the fun.

I don't understand. You seem to be presenting a rule here - when supporting characters turn into lead characters, they lose their depth and turn into one-note characters. You say that it happened to Spike and Gunn, and that if Faith turned into a regular then it would happen to her too. I don't agree with what you said about Spike and Gunn, but even if we say it's true for the sake of argument, why are you sure that this is a RULE? Why are you so sure that Faith MUST turn into a one-note character if she becomes a regular? I just don't see any logical through-line there. If a character gets more screen-time, wouldn't that make her deeper and more complex, and LESS archetypal? When Wesley turned into a regular character, for example, didn't he become more complex and less archetypical?

I don't agree that his resurrection made his death worthless. Angel and Buffy also returned after being killed in 'Becoming' and 'The Gift', but that didn't make their deaths any less powerful. The same is true of Spike. His death in 'Chosen' is still incredibly powerful to me.

I do sorta agree, however, that Spike maybe should have stayed dead. And that's because unlike Buffy and Angel, his arc was FINISHED when he died (Actually, I would have been totally fine if Angel stayed dead after 'Becoming' too. None of his subsequent stories were ever as interesting...). Spike's arc from 'School Hard' to 'Chosen' is fantastic, and complete, IMO. After he was resurrected, he was still a lot of fun, but his character kinda stopped changing. I mean, he still changed a little, but not nearly as much as he changed in seasons 2-7 of 'Buffy'. One of my favorite things about Spike was how DYNAMIC he was, how he was so different in every season, and after 'Chosen' he kinda lost that trait. After 'Chosen', he barely changed. And that's a shame.

Then again, I still love Spike, and I still think he COULD regain his old dynamic-ness. He just needs better, more daring writing. Here's hoping season 11 fixes this 🙂

I would feel the same about Faith. Her story was told in BtVS, she had come full circle in her story too and became a hero. Sure, I wouldn't have been opposed to her guest starring in a few episodes, but as a leading character? No. Not necessary for her, or for the AI team.

I completely disagree. Unlike Spike, Faith always had way too little screentime. Sure, she had a nice ending in 'Chosen', but there's still TONS of interesting places she could go, and she DID go to a lot of interesting places in the comics. I'd totally watch/read a Faith solo series, for YEARS. I mean, JESUS, Faith only had 26 episodes, on both shows combined! Faith only appeared in 26 episodes, out of the 250 episodes of the Buffyverse!!! That's crazy! She has SO MANY MORE STORIES TO TELL!

Absolutely. While I would have preferred her to have her own show, I definitely think she should have joined team Angel. Her presence and story make so much sense on the show and elevates any arcs she's a part of, and she has chemistry with all the members. I always believed she deserved much more screen time, and should have been a main character in at LEAST a full season of one of the shows. Seriously, ats 5 has Spike and Harmony but not Faith? And I certainly don't believe that she would become a boring or one dimensional character. To me, she gets more and more fascinating the more we see of her, and I think that would have continued. Are we forgetting that she's finally a main character in the comics, and consistently one of the best characters? I want to see how she would interact with Angel, Gunn, Wesley, and Fred on a day to day basis. It would be so great.
 
I'm of the opinion that Faith could've fitted in on Angel any time after her initial appearance in S1. She could've gone to jail for a bit or not at all; she could've followed Angels initial advice and face her inner demons by battling alongside Angel Inc (I have a way this would work in-show, involving David Nabbitt and Det. Lockley's instability)

She could've played a role in the following seasons; Angel turning dark in S2, rolling her eyes at the soap opera in S3, dealing with pregnant Darla & baby Connor (Faith freaking out about magic baby is awesome in my head!canon), , and then going into the apocalypse, then following Willow to Sunnydale for a bit- 'cause she's asked- and then heading back to be the W&H head of security. 🙂

But really that's just greedy, she would've worked well in S5 Angel best; there are so many episodes there that can be deleted to make way for a couple of Faith-centric episodes.
 
I think that the great thing about Faith is that she's very versatile imo, as in I can see her working with a lot of characters and a lot of situations. Also Faith's story was far from told or finished by chosen, the writers could have done so much more with her and that should have happened in season 5 of Angel imo. I think it would have been great if Angel had rehabilitated Faith himself after sanctuary (it seemed like Angel was never planning on Faith going to prison), and then Faith could have been in Angel seasons 1-4 and then go over to Buffy for season 7 and back to Angel for Angel season 5 lol. I guess that would take away from how powerful and fitting it was to see Faith go to prison though 😀😳
