Ok I know people might think this is a bit pointless but anyway I thought it was intresting. Vampires don't have blood running through their body so how did Angel and Spike get it up?

They have blood, it's just someone elses. Obviously their muscles still function (we do see them walking around and beating heck out of people so that's pretty obvious), the heart is just another muscle whose fuction is to pump blood. So there is no real reason that they couldn't have blood pumping through their system to perform the 'little general salute'.

Now, this may cause a few problem with canon, since when Gwen touched Angel he seemed quite surprised when his heart started beating. This could be explained if he normally has to conciously force it to beat, and when Gwen touched him it started beating on its own temporarily.

But they don't have a circulation. In Buffy: "Pangs" Spike said, "You're cutting off my circulation" and then Buffy replied, "You don't have circulation."

Yeah, I addressed that. The blood of vampires doesn't circulate, the heart doesn't pump, and so the blood doesn't flow. What I'm suggesting is that although it may not do so reguarly or on it's own, that vampires may be able to 'force' their hearts to beat and cause the blood flow (though it wouldn't be necessary most of the time). So Spike wouldn't have any circulation but he might be able to cause himself to if he wishes.

They also have a nervous system, do they not? Otherwise they couldn't feel pain.

Ok, vampires do have blood, remember, they drink it??!

if you want explanations on vampire anatomy and stuff, buy the roleplaying game "Vampire The Masquerade" it's not buffy-related, but it has extraordinary believable explanations for all this.. For instance the sex, the vampire can use the power of the blood he drinks in order to perform

VtM has some decent explanations for a lot of vamp related stuff (though even the Storyteller's Guide admits you have to suspend disblief for some of it... but when the suject is vampires that's to be expected). As a note though, if you pick up VtM, the game has nothing to do with Buffy. Their vampires, except for a few exceptions among them, are not hurt by crosses or holy symbols, do cast reflections, can enter houses without permission, etc. etc. etc.. So the majority of stuff about vamps in those books do not apply when it come to Buffy.

If you want some semi-official Buffy information on vampires than something might be coming to help. Eden Studios has released a BtVS RPG (http://www.btvsrpg.com/main.htm). There is a book on the way called 'Monster Smackdown' which is supposed to address vampires , from a Buffy perspective, in some detail. Whether or not the book will cover this, I don't know, but it might so decieded to mention it.

yes, it has nothing to do with buffy, but i said so 🙂

question, where the hell does it say that in the storyteller's guide? i have it and don't recall reading that, still makes sense

It's actually in the 'Storytellers Handbook'. It's on page 20, towards the bottom of the page, under the heading 'Do vampires have any fluids other than blood in their bodies like saliva or tears?' (how appropriate concidering the topic of discussion). Great quote to use on players who starting saying stuff like "That would never happen!" or 'That's impossible! He can't over power me because I have FIVE levels of Potence!".

Quote : 'Let me preface this by saying, "suspend disbelief." We are talking about creatures of fantasy after all.'

i'll have to check that out... but i thought somewhere it said that vampires could generate tears by using blood... and the saliva thing... don't they close the bite marks by using it?
i need to re-read VTM!!!

In VtM vamps aren't supposed to have any fluids but blood except where it is impossible for that to happen due to practicallity. The eyes of vampires are still composed of the normal humors, not blood, and they still have saliva (essentially if they didn't, the whites of their eyes would be red and their mouths would be a bloody mess), all other fluids are replaced with blood. Vamps in VtM cry, sweat etc. blood (this also applies to the fluids which come into play during sex... how's that for yucky?). That's why you're supposed to suspend disblief, the rule only applies where it can be applied easily and just gets ignored otherwise.

On a side note, the bloody tears and sweat are actually not something a character burns blood to cause, it just happens on it's own . It's a great device for a nasty story teller who wants a few characters to accidentally break the Masquerade. Another good device for STs to use, concider the possibilities involved when you take into account the fact that the fluids involved in sex are blood as well. Great way to blood bond the unsuspecting. On a side note, it's a great reason for characters in the WoD to never go down.

but i thought they had a salivalike fluid... which had enzimes to close the bite marks and make the prey forget the fact that they were bitten....there's even a flaw which makes you not able to do that

Yeah, like I said they have saliva (with the healing properties) and the humors of their eyes. Everything else is blood (including vaginal secretions and semen... nice way to blood bond, but oh so gross).

(EDIT - forgot to add....)

Oh, and I don't think anything about the 'kiss' itself actually makes the victim forget, that's third level Dominate. The bite just gives it's victim a nice 'semi-drunken-sort-of-sexual-really-pleasant'-type feeling so they can't (or find it very difficult) to break free. That is why a great many vampires who don't know the Dominate discipline very well feed during sex. It's less likely to get you busted since the vamp's partner should already be having some 'nice' feelings of their own, without the aid of the kiss. That would be a function of the actual bite though (it's a not so subtle sexual referance... pleasure via penetration), and has nothing to do with the saliva, which I believe just heals the wounds.

LOL 😉

not 100% sure, but i think the saliva does have the memory properties because not all vampires have dominate nor level 3 dominate, and the fact that they bite someone and go away with that person remembering it kinda breaks the Masquerade

ok, I thought this thread was funny at first, but now I find it extremely funny that it's gone into 2 pages. I wonder if it'll make it further. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

It actually doesn't. That's why vamps without Dominate tend to find different methods of feeding which are less likely to arouse suspision (ie. during sex, on mental patients, the homeless, people who are drunk or drugged up, folks who are asleep, making 'withdrawls' at the local bloodbank, etc.).

'Sides, if every vamp could just feed without any real fear of breaking the masquerade (heck, even Dominate isn't a 100% guarentee) then what fun would that be?
