i just realised why didnt faith have dreamslike buffy and by the wya wood reacted in s7 it seemed like his mum didtn either, is buffy a unique slayer or what?

There was a thread from ages ago that got into a really deep discusion about what triggered a slayers powers. Going off Fray it is possible for the prophetic dreams and the slayer strength to be split. So that would suggest that they have 2 triggers, the body has to die to pass on the strength and the soul/psyche has to die to pass on the dreams. In Season 1 Buffy died but was brought back to life, her essence didn't make it to heaven so it never died. Going off this theory, that meant that Buffy only past on her slayer strength to Kendra and not the dreams. In season 2, Kendra never mentions any dreams. What drew her to Sunnydale was her watcher...who informed her that a very dark power was rising in Sunnydale. If she had prophetic dreams shouldn't they have warned her? In that case, Kendra never had the dreams to pass on to Faith, so Faith only received her slayer strength and not the dreams 🙂

we don't know that Faith and Kendra don't have the dreams, just that they never mentioned having them.

Actually I always assumed the dream like sequence between Buffy and Faith in Graduation Day Part 2 was a part of Faith's prophecies.

I mean Faith tells Buffy of Dawn and her impending death. I remember a thread years ago about that. Some people thought it was Faith's way of letting Buffy on her dreams, as Faith was to be the Slayer to take care of Dawn, because Faith is the Slayer, whereas Buffy is a slayer (Though thought by the First and Caleb to be the true and more powerful Chosen).

And in This Year's Girl Faith also has a dream in which Buffy kills the mayor, a prophecy that could have told her that Buffy did succed in taking down the mayor. Not to mention all the other prophectic things that happened there.

Besides Buffy's prophetic dreams are kinda rare anyway. Faith may have thought she was a bit crazy by having dreams as she had no watcher to explain them. Kendra I cant explain though, not that my explanation is right.

It could also be that Faith and Kendra were never in the positions to have the prophetic dreams. They may not have been in the situation of facing apocolyptic evil like Buffy was numerous times.

But the Faith in these dreams are more guides than actual participants. Faith is relaying information that she could not possibly know and that does not concern her.

Why would Faith have a dream about Buffy dying in Graduation Day Part II? Faith tells Buffy 'Counting down from 7-3-0'. Buffy's death is of no concern to the Slayer line anymore. None of the dreams that Faith has appeared in have been centered on her personally.

It seems like Faith has dreams to help others out or to see things about what will happen to others. Like in "This Year's Girl" when she mentions "Lil sis is coming".

If this were true...then wouldn't the prophetic dreams be lost forever?

But I think Faith did have the dreams like some others have said...they just were not talked about on the show the way Buffy's were...maybe they were even slightly different than Buffy's. Like the dream's in This Year's Girl. Like Cordy_Chase said...it's more like she warns people through dreams...

But was that really Faith's dream. After the dream sequence it cuts to Faith but that doesn't necceserily mean it was her dream. And the only reason I don't think it was her dream is because, Buffy has a continuation of that dream at the end of Season 4. I think Buffy's subconscious chooses Faith as her guide.

The rest of Faith's dreams in that episode are normal nightmares of her experiencing an awful time in her life, with Buffy as the villian not her friend.

The dreams wouldn't be lost forever, but when Buffy died the second time at the end of Season 5 they were past on to a potential Slayer, only that slayer only received the dreams not the strength. So, there should be a girl out there who recieves prophetic dreams but has no slayer strength to match it.

thanks for making my brain go "click click click" today :)
Good Point Jules!! What a scenario if not all the dreams we think are Faiths are really hers.

I do have one question though on this theory...Doesn't faith say something to Buffy in this year's girl about her having a dreams about Buffy and how she tried to kill faith for Angel, but now Buffy's not even with Angel anymore...

Here's the conversation that Faith has with Buffy:

Faith: I could say the same about you. I mean, you're still the same better-than-thou Buffy. I mean, I knew it somehow. I kept having this dream, I'm not sure what it means, but in the dream the self-righteous blond chick stabs me, and you wanna know why?

Buffy: You had it coming.

Faith: That's one interpretation, but in my dream, she does it for a guy.

Faith: I wake up to find the blond chick isn't even dating the guy she was so nuts about before. I mean, she's moved on to the first college beefstick she meets. Not only has she forgotten about the love of her life, but she's forgotten about the chick she nearly killed for him. So that's my dream. That and some stuff about cigars and a
tunnel. But tell me, college girl, what does it mean?

I think Faith's being sarcastic. She's a little annoyed that Buffy was willing to kill her for Angel, and the way it looks to her is that Buffy must not have loved Angel that mush because she's already shacked up with someone else.

Yeah reading it, that makes sense....because they really didn't show the dream that she was talking about and she doesn't mention the other dreams.

But after Chosen that potential would have the power right?
I mean that's what I thought she said.
This was totally off the topic I know but I was just wondering

Maybe Faith did have the dreams but felt uncomfortable telling the gang about them... I don't know about that. Her dreams that featured Buffy were more of guides than prophetic dreams
Kendra is a different story though. She might've had the dreams I just don't know.

I'm not saying that my theory's right but yeah, after Chosen the potential who only had the trigger for the dreams activated who have had the strength power activated as well.

Thanks
And its a good theory...makes sense

It also makes sense to explain why they didn't find a slayer after Buffy died the second time in "The Gift". If the girl just received the dreams and no strength, the council and/or the Scooby Gang wouldn't know about her.

The poor girl would be getting these wickedly weird disturbing dreams...and couldnt' do anything about them...especially if she started noticing things coming true around her. That would suck...give me super-strength anyday!

I'm pretty sure at a convention or something Joss said that the reason that a new slayer wasn't called after "The Gift" was that Buffy was no longer directly on the slayer line, she was other than (according to the Codex, she was dead). I think that the reason wre never see Faith's dreams is that we're really only following Buffy, she's the main character, so we see insights into her psyche far more often thatn ather characters. Also, Faith was a lot more physical. There's a good chance she would have ignored any dreams she got.
