How come faith didnt have prophecy dreams?

A slayer wasn't called because buffy is not active anymore. She is not the active slayer, as in the current slayer.Faith is.When Buffy died the second time, no slayer was called because she can't activate another.During a convention, Joss said, slayers are like batteries.Ounce their used up, they can'tbe used again. So if a slayer dies and calls another, and is reborn, then dies, it can't call another cause it's used up.Faith did have dreams. We witness dreams from her in season 4's ep, where she and buffy switch bodies. Her dream is about Buffy chasing her around in the graveyard, with Faith's knife. Her other dream was when when Buffy and her were fixin the bed, and she gets stabbed by Buffy again. This wasn't really a prophecy. But slayers have visions of the past, and future, and this was a vision that faith had.It was a true vision, that Buffy would go out hunting for her.In the vision, Buffy was the bad one.And this came true later on.Buffy did turn bad, when Faith was in her body. And Buffy did go after faith, in Angel's ep "Sanctuary".It doesn't really matter to Joss, if we don't see all Faith's visions.Cause the main character is Buffy, even thou she's not the active slayer. But she's the main slayer of the show.

But as Jules points out:

But was that really Faith's dream. After the dream sequence it cuts to Faith but that doesn't necceserily mean it was her dream. And the only reason I don't think it was her dream is because, Buffy has a continuation of that dream at the end of Season 4. I think Buffy's subconscious chooses Faith as her guide.

Like Cordy Chase said, after Buffy died in 'The Gift' she would have triggered the prophetic dreams in a potential slayer. But that slayer would never receive slayer strength, so to the outside world the new slayer would only appear as a psychic, a girl would had dreams that came true. That's why it could appear that no slayer was called after Buffy died in 'The Gift.'

Faith's dreams in season 4 were more like nightmares. In Faith's dreams Buffy is portrayed as the villian. In the dream at the beginning of This Year's Girl, that dream could posibly be considered Buffy's dream. That dream relays information about Buffy's future, with things that have nothing to do with Faith. In this dream Buffy is more like herself, with Faith appearing as a guide to give information. Buffy also has a continuation of this dream at the end of season 4.

ETA.....lol hun...we posted the same thing at the same time 😀

I do think Faith has the dreams, we just don't see the ones that don't apply to the plot directly. And I don't believe that Faith was a participant, active or otherwise, in the Grad 2 dream...

Recovered coma patients, to my knowledge, rarely complain of nightmares. Buffy's dreams always apply to something momentous and what she can do to prevent it all going pear shaped. Sometimes its a prophecy, sometimes its a little girl with a thoroughly disturbing nursery rhyme. Faith, because she's been trapped in her own messed up mind for 8 months, has tapped into a much darker, but no less vivid, part of the Slayer dreams. They're a little self obsessed, because she's Groundhog Daying her last fight with Buffy over and over and over, but they are still acting as an aid in her personal battle. Buffy put her in her coma, Buffy represents her coma. Faith's dreams are guiding her to a place where she can win, where she can escape from it, something that the average comatose teenager cannot do. The doc said it himself: she should never have woken up, and if she was in any way normal, she wouldn't have. They are her Slayer dreams, because whoever the hell is ultimately in charge of the Slayers is trying to save her from her coma, just as they saved Buffy from the Gentlemen etc. No wonder she looks rough when she wakes up: 8 months of getting continously murdered can't be much fun, even if it's ultimately what's woken you up.

I always asumed that as a Slayer, she had incredible healing abilities and that was what allowed her to wake up from the coma. We learn in the season 2 episode, Ted, that slayers don't bruise easily, that they have some added health factor.

I've never made a comparison between Buffy's dreams and Faith's because I really don't think Faith has had prophetic dreams.

The reason I think Faith's coma dream is just an everyday nightmare of a girl nearing consciousness, is the aspect of the dream. We know that the slayers powers are routed in darkness, that the purpose of the powers is to defeat evil. Faith, before, during and shortly after her coma was evil. I don't think the powers that be would have taken the time to guide her, or help her to heal. If anything they would have wanted her dead to call the next slayer....An evil slayer was never meant to happen.

You could argue that Faith's powers as a slayer have their own seperate abilities away from the powers that be. That her body had gone on automatic and was doing the necessary things needed to heal. But the dreams are reliving events, every prophetic dream Buffy has had has involved the future. And none of the dreams Faith has seem to lead to any great answers.

Buffy's dreams are prophetic, IMO, because they're the type of dreams she needs at the time, to fight the impending Big Bad. More than that, the prophetic part generally seems to be just part of it, rather than the whole picture. Hush is the one that sticks in my mind because of my rabid hatred of children, but seeing the box and hearing the nursery rhyme, aren't, strictly speaking, prophetic. There's a greater emphasis placed on the dreams as historical in both the Angel episode with the Slayer-who-looks-like-Becka-from-the-Ring and in Fray. Buffy's dreams help her in her situation. Faith's dreams, because her battle was entirely internal, were much more limited in scope, but no less vital to her own private struggle. We've never seen Faith take on anything of the scale that Buffy has, cause it's Buffy's name on the Titles. 😀 If I had my way...

Bear in mind that Faith, like Buffy, was chosen to be the Slayer, not just designated by a lottery. She was chosen because the PTB believed she had the necessary qualities to be the warrior messiah on behalf of 6 billion or so of us poor Shmucky McBaits. That's not something they dole out lightly. Clearly, they once believed that she had The Right Stuff, and they believed it so strongly they put the fate of the world in her hands. So who's to say they ever lost... er...hope... that Faith could be up to the challenge? Even if they had lost...er... belief that Faith was the girl for the job, lying in a coma ward doomed to unflattering lighting and unstraightened hair, Faith was still stagnant. They might have wanted her woken up just to die, which is bleak...("Rise and Shine, and Die!")

That Slayers have astonishing healing powers isn't in question (It's implied in Fray that they can actually recover from spinal damage - in days) but the human mind is a complex thing, and in Buffy the lines between the physical and mental are blurry. Normal coma patients cannot dream themselves awake merely by beating an imaginary personification of the coma. Faith did, which suggests to me that her dreams were a very, very long bus trip away from normal... Whether they're "visions" or merely because she's got Slayer Superpowers, they're still Slayer dreams just like Buffy's, which could arguably be either as well.

I think that all Slayers have prophetic dreams when they need to and when they would be helpful towards someone else. I'm not sure if the "need" is personal such as when Drusilla had killed Angel in Buffy's dream or 'business' when she was having dreams about the Harvest. We'll never know if Kendra had prophetic dreams or not. I think the dreams of Buffy and Faith in 'Graduation' were both of theirs. They share power centers, so why shouldn't they be able to share dreams? Just my theory. Sorry if it's complicated.

I think Buffy's subconscious chooses Faith as her guide.

this makes sense as we only keep our shameful experiences and shameful thoughts in our sub concious, at least according to sigmund freud, and faith is exactly what buffy is afraid of becoming because she knows that she is in some ways like faith and is ashamed of that fact.

I always thought that no other slayer had the dreams Buffy had. I never ever though that they had anything to do with the slayer in her. I always thought that if Buffy wasn't a slayer she would still have those dreams.

Giles mentions the prophetic dreams as being an indicating factor of the slayer in the very first episode of the series, I think. I wish I could find a quote, but alas...not right now. I remember him asking her something along the lines of "So, you haven't been having the dreams then?" as a way of reverse psycholog-ing her and her stopping dead in her tracks because she knew that she had and she'd never mentioned them.

dreams come with the slayer package, that's sure. they come to warn the slayer when something really big is approaching.
in "welcome to the hellmouth" we were on the verge of the harvest and giles asked her - "it's not as though you were having the nightmares?" these nightmares came to warn her about the harvest. before ever apocalyptic event, buffy would have prophetic dreams since then.
but why only buffy?
well, we don't know it was only buffy.
we only know of buffy.

I well just figured something out and i know i'm ment to be detoxing for a while lol but i had to say something... dreams of past slayers and prophecy dreams are connected, as in the same thing at least i'm pretty sure they are in fray, if this is true then that means all slayers will have prophecy dreams because that mental girl from angel had dreams of past slayers- although i suspect i may be wrong, but i hope not!!! ok im going back on my detox now, bye talk to you after xmas XOX

no i think you're right. now that you mention it, dana really did have dreams of past slayers.

The dreams of past slayers was actually first mentioned in the original Buffy movie with Kristy Swanson. Merrick used the fact that Buffy was dreaming of being girls from past times as part of the proof that she was a slayer.

It kind of got pushed to the back of the mythology for a long time though, in fact the first time any mention of it was suggested in the series was in Restless where it was firmly established that there was a psychic link goiing back through the slayer line right back to the first slayer.

Other than her prophetic dreams Buffy never really experienced anything else like that throughout the run of her show but Dana, the psycho slayer from Damage, firmly established that the dreams and experiences of previous slayers were a part of the slayer package as she went so far as to channel some of those previous slayers, the chinese slayer that Spike killed included, into herself.

i believe that was because dana's mind was damaged - she lacked the borders that saparate certain aspects of our mind from others, she had turmoil inside instead. she had access to parts of her mind and abilities that regular people don't have due to their mind being "sane" and seady.
it's often said mentally damaged people are in fact very talented and intelligent inside, they just lack the ability to channel that out. throw in the slayer package to enhance those senses and we get dana.
