I know there was a rift in the slayer line after Buffy's resurrection, but was The First able to use that to locate the potentials? Or was there an inside source at the Watcher's Council that was feeding the names to it? Also, if there were potential slayers always popping up all over the world, wouldn't new ones keep being born? How was The First going to eliminate the slayer line if there were always potentials?

Wasn't that the job of the Bringers, to find (and kill) the potentials? I think the First planned to actually kill all the potentials so no new Slayer could be called.
Yes, but with potentials always being born, how would they kill them all? Its like, they would kill a ton of them but at the same time, more would be born. I guess my question is, how would that work? Did bringing Buffy back from the dead mess up the slayer line bad enough that it put a stop to newborn girls having the potential to be a slayer?
Well maybe, if there's no potential for the Slayer power to go to, then it's stopped forever? So, all potentials are killed, then Faith.
Well, yeah, that was the First's plan. However, like I said, girls were constantly being born with the potential to be a slayer. They made it clear that there were thousands of potentials around the world. So yes, while the bringers were out and about killing those potentials, wouldn't more and more still be born? Think of it like a cell (potential slayer). It duplicates and it can be destroyed. However, as it keeps splitting and creating more cells (newborn potentials), some (older potentials) may be destroyed but at the same time, more and more are cells (baby potentials) are being made. Eventually, the number of new cells (born potentials) would still outnumber the ones that have been killed. Does that make sense?
Are they born with it, or does it come at a later time? I don't know the answer to that. If the First acts quick enough to get all the living potentials, then I feel like it could take care of the baby ones with enough speed. *shrugs* suspension of disbelief I guess.
I think suspension is going to have to do to ease my mind haha. It is said, though, that both Kendra and Faith were given over to their Watchers at the time of their births. So yes, I would assume they are born with it.
Really? When did they say at their births? (I'm not doubting you, I just don't remember hearing that before.)
It was mentioned by Kendra in one of her few episodes. I think it might have been What's My Line Part 2.

Kendra doesn't say as a baby, though. And Faith wasn't taken from her family.

My mistake, then. So at one point or another in its plan, The First would have to kill toddlers and/or babies. That's interesting.

The First may have had the same resources available as the Watchers, who kept the coven to determine where any bad situation was and also to determine the death of a slayer and send a new one. Giles mentions at one point getting instructions from the Council of Watchers about demonic activity on the horizon. There is no question that the First can get Black Magic resources of his own to determine where the potentials are and infuse the Bringers with that knowledge. Remember, the slayer and the potential are part demonic and the First could do the equivalent of the demon locator spell that Tara sabotaged and get their positions on a magic map.
