How do you rate SMG as an actress?

I like her as an actress. Now obviously, I'm a bit biased because of Buffy, but I've found that even when I don't enjoy the movie she's in, I like her in it, if that makes any sense.

"I know what you did last summer" is one of my all time favorite horror movies, and I actually saw it before I'd even heard of Buffy, and I liked her a lot in that. Sure, it was a pretty one-dimensional role looking back, but it's still a fun movie.

Ringer was a show I thought was decent, but I enjoyed SMG in it, and she was the reason I kept coming back.

To tell you the truth I've never seen The Grudge movies, and I couldn't stand Scoobie-Do (seriously, I have my own little grudge against those movies. They're the reason there was no Buffy in Angel S5) or the sequel. I liked her in Cruel Intentions a lot though (and there is one scene in particular 😀).

My only real criticism is that I'd like to see her in a bit more. I understand she's right in the middle of family life now, but I enjoy watching her, so purely as a fan I'd like to see more of her work.

But of course, Buffy is where she's the best. She took a role that could have wound up being a one season bomb and turned it into one of the most iconic and enduring characters of all time. Not just anyone could have done that. She's a remarkable leading woman.

Her face acting is out of this world. No other actor can turn the water works on like she can and make me feel her pain lol seriously.
And that is applies to other projects, not just Buffy.

Exactly, whenever she cries i tear up. I just cant help it haha

Yes I agree, SMG has done some of the best face acting I've ever seen. I think she's truly a very talented actress. I admit, Buffy sort of ruined it for me because now all I see is Buffy or "the girl who played Buffy" when I watch SMG in her roles, but she's still a good actress.

She's a good crier too. I had to say it. There are a lot of bad criers in Hollywood.

I don't know, depends on the role, I think she can't do serious comedy, just "silly Buffy" stuff, which is okay .. When she tries too hard to be dark and dramatic she becomes kinda boring .. What else? I think other than that she's good, I liked her in Cruel Intentions & Simply Irresistible, her horror movie roles aren't that interesting, I guess she plays scared well enough.

I think that as an actor, Sarah found her perfect role as Buffy Summers. Beyond that, despite what I have read is a totally professional attitude toward her craft and a highly admirable work ethic, she has no quality that would make her stand out from the hundreds of other actors with whom she would have to compete in order to get work. I know that she desperately wants to play larger, more demanding roles, but I just can't see anyone taking the chance on her.

I know that there are a lot of people here who may disagree, but that's the way that I see it. Fess Parker was always Davy Crockett, even when he played Daniel Boone, James Arness was always Marshal Dillon, William Shatner will always be Captain Kirk, and the list goes on. Sarah IS Buffy. Her fans can't see her in any other role without making that comparison. And I honestly believe that Sarah's only chance for any lasting success would be to find herself a new TV show or movie about some kind of demon fighter (imagine a female version of "Supernatural" or "Grimm") close enough to Buffy to satisfy her fans, but dissimilar enough to avoid a lawsuit from Joss Whedon. That's her fate, and she might just as well embrace it or reconcile herself to a mediocre career.

Am I the only heartless a hole who laughs pretty hard when she starts crying about Angel in The Prom? Haha...whenever SMG does her crying face I chuckle. It's the same face too, in every show/movie she's ever been in and whenever I see it I think, "Oh no...here it comes" hahah it's priceless! I think she's a pretty great actress when it comes to Buffy because I like Buffy's personality, I mean when she delivers her witty banter, it sounds real and I assumed that Sarah sounded or spoke in a similar way in real life but...no. Sarah's actual manner of speaking kind of bothers me. After I heard it a few times I thought, "Hey, she's pretty good on Buffy."

So yeah, she's alright. I loved her in Cruel Intentions and I just can't imagine anyone else playing Buffy the way she did. The crying scenes are pretty awful (in my opinion) but other than that, she's great. Well...okay, she did a fantastic job in The Body and Forever, I totally bought those performances. However in The Prom and Same Time, Same Place, I couldn't take her very seriously.

Sarah's my favorite actress. Like ever. I love (and I'm probably the only one) the Scooby-Doo movies, I thought she was absolutely great in Cruel Intentions and she's the only reason I watched Scream 2.

As for Ringer, I loved her in it and I think she was the only reason I liked the show that much while it aired.

Oh, and I'm still hoping for her to get a guest starring role in SPN *_*

I don't laugh, but I do roll my eyes quite a bit. I keep thinking, "Will this girl EVER have a happy scene. Look at the show, and you will see literally dozens of scenes where Sarah is crying over someone or something, but I can't remember EVER seeing the girl laugh. I mean, surely she must have at some point, but I just can't name a single specific laughter scene.

The intro to "Once More With Feeling" a.k.a. the Title Scrawl with the actors names listed. 😉

To get back on topic, How do I rate Sarah as an actress?

I will admit this. She is the first actor to legit make me cry at a scene in at TV show. State of Becoming, Pt. II. I. Bawled. So. Much. I came somewhat close to crying during Surprise where Angelus is mocking Buffy at how she 'was' at....well, you know. But State of Becoming made me literally break down and cry. Sarah McLachlan's song didn't help matters.

I respect her as an actress because she makes me feel the emotions in the scenes. There have been many times over the course of the seasons where I have both been happy for her, and cried. Yes, there are MANY moments over the series where she is unhappy, but in my opinion, that's a depiction of human life. Not everyone is happy all the time.

So my final answer? It may be biased because I'm a fan, but she's in my Top Five Actors and Actresses list.

I can see why people would find it funny, but I always thought she did a good job with that cry. I felt it seemed very realistic, even if it was ugly. 😛 But I shall say, I've actually had a similar cry in my life where I felt like I couldn't breathe, so I just kind of understood what she was feeling and I totally bought it.

But to each their own. 😛

Look right at the end of this sequence, and it looks almost like she's going to start crying.
white avenger, you know, I've always thought Buffy was an incredible crier. Not many people can look just as beautiful when they're in tears as when they're not and get an emotional response out of the viewer, but I thought she pulled it off perfectly almost every time.

Now, is the fact that I'm stupidly attracted to and kind of in love with her playing a part in my expert analysis there? Totally 😀

I agree about the crying
SMG in movies:

Cruel intentions: brilliant!
I know what you did last summer: as good as can be expected from that kind of movie, i.e. not a great show case of talent but she was still good in it
Simply irresistible: see above
Southland tales: loved her!
The air I breathe: amazing performance, well done Sarah
veronica decides to die: great performance even though I didn't like the movie, she performed beautifully
Scooby-doo 1 &2: meh but it wasn't à  part that required a lot either
Harvard man: not very believable, if it was her or the script I'm not sure but I wasn't impressed
Girl's guide to fishing and hunting (it got another title before release butI can't remember it anymore, it's the one with Alec Baldwin): again not à  fan of the movie but SMG did beautifully in it.

+ Possession and The return, two movies I found so bad that I can't even remember Sarah's performance, My one thought on these are "why were they made????

It was changed to 'Suburban Girl' I think.
I think she's brilliant. I'd rate her a 10 out of 10. I think her best element is drama/horror, she does that better than anyone else IMO. But no matter what she is doing, she really conveys the emotion of the scene no matter what it be. You can tell she's very professional & committed to her characters. She'll always be one of my favs.

I think SMG is great as Buffy. She has grown up with the character and understands her inside and out.
That being said, I think that 'Buffy' is her niche. Whilst I do enjoy her other performances, I think it has more to do with the fact that I go 'I love her as Buffy' than it does on her ability in those other roles.
This may be because I love the show so much that I can't really relate to her as anyone else and kind of don't want to.
For me SMG is Buffy and I always find myself, after watching some of her other projects, going straight to watching BTVS because I would much rather see her in that role.
As Buffy I find myself constantly moved by her display of emotions. When her heart breaks; I feel it too. When she's angry; I feel it too.

So in conclusion; perfect as Buffy and good as others.
