Question How good is Firefly?

After watching Serenity on T.V the other day (loved it),it's drawn me to consider buying the Firefly box set. I've never seen it before though so know very little about it (apart from the basics from Serenity).

Instead of reading about it and uncovering the ending and best bits by mistake lol, I thought I would ask here. So, how good is it and in general what's it about?

Firefly is amazing. In my opinion, it's far better than the movie :)
In general it's about the crew on board of the firefly ship serenity. It's a great show, only one season so can be easily watched within a few days, or a day if you have time!
 
I'm going to take a wild stab and say that if you enjoyed Serenity, you'd no doubt enjoy Firefly. 😉

Personally, I found it to be a bit boring. 😱

(but don't listen to me)
 
I've been asking myself this question too! But I'm not sure I want to invest in the show if it ends in a cliffhanger or something like that
 
It's good. I thought it started out slow but by the end I was wishing there was more. If you enjoyed Serenity I think it's pretty safe to say you'll enjoy Firefly too. It is currently on Netflix streaming so you can check it out there before paying for it.
 
I liked it. It isn't one of my all time favorite shows and I think it has a tendency to be a little overhyped, but that's just me. I still enjoyed it. Awesome characters. I actually liked the series better than the movie.

To me, it's the only TV show I've seen that can touch BtVS. Highly recommendable!
I have also watched Serenity before Firefly. And now I appreciate Serenity a lot more than before. It's my favorite sci-fi movie (set in space), even before Star Wars. And that's something. Although I tend to watch Serenity only after watching Firefly.

Totally, totally agree. I kept thinking "Cowboys in space?! That sounds so stupid!" But I got my husband "Serenity" out of the $5 bin at Wal-Mart while he was deployed, and he told me how much he loved the movie, and wanted to watch the show, so when he came home we bought it and watched it together. I was totally pissed at myself for not giving it a chance when it was on!! It's written so well and the characters are an awesome mix.
 
Personally I love the show and you should definitely watch it in my opinion. Try not go into it with high expectations since that makes it easier to get disappointed. Many, including myself find it a bit slowstarting the first time watching but others don't get that at all.

Although Firefly and Serenity are a lot alike (obviously) there's still some differences. Both in style but also the history. So since you've watched the movie there's a few things that doesn't make total sense. Not enough to ruin anything. Just ignore it when it happens.

@This Year's Girl Buy it! Just get both the series and the movie.
 
I've watched all the eps but not Serenity yet. Definitely worth the investment. It's awesome!!

Haha I love Firefly. I watched it recently because Netflix FINALLY has it on there...and I like Serenity too, but I would have found it dull if I hadn't seen Firefly first.
 
I saw Serenity first and loved it, I think it's actually a pretty common way for people to watch the show, because we're all idiots and didn't watch the first time round.

I always kick myself thinking back on it now, judging the show for being a space-cowbow show, when my favorite show was Buffy the 16 year old Vampire Slayer?!?
 
Firefly is a brilliant show.
It was my introduction to Joss Whedon.

But didn't anyone else thought that the space cowboy thing sounded awesome?
I had no clue about Whedon and his shows when I started to watch Firefly I only did it because I loved that idea of cowboys in space.

Also, I heard about Firefly around the time when the movie was announced.
But I would never have watched the movie without given the show a chance first.

It was more the whole space aspect that threw me, I wasn't a fan of Star Trek or Star Wars and presumed thats what it would be like (foolish younger me)

I wonder what Joss think of the film Cowboys and Aliens. (they should rerelease Serenity and name it Cowboys and Reavers, people might think it's a trilogy and be tricked into watching it!)

...except that it was kind of a box office failure and no one really remembers that movie for anything other than the fact that the title sounded like a B-movie.

As for how good Firefly is... well, I need to rewatch it sometime soon, but it is definitely worth watching, especially with how short it is. As Whedon shows go, I'd rank either it or Angel at the bottom, but that's just because of how good everything else he's been involved in is and not because it's bad by any stretch.

Also, the Blu-ray set is under $20 on Amazon right now, so just get that. Seriously, get it, and watch. If you liked Serenity, why are you even asking if you'll like Firefly?
