How Long Is Your Hair?

Have you considered a hair oil or a treatment? Just something to put on the mid-length/ends to try and protect your hair from breakage, especially at the back?

I'm sure it's something you've considered in the past, but if not, something to think about!
Oil plus my hair sadly equals rat tails. 😛

I do treat my hair with non oil based hair products and it does help keep my hair silky and holds in moisture.

Nothing has worked the way the satin pillows has though. I have very little breakage now i use the satin pillow cases and they are relatively cheap.

Have you tried Du Sharme? It's AMAZING.👍
@DeepBlueJoy,
I suggest you liberally coat your hair with Brylcreem at night.
Please note I did not suggest you do it during the day, because then I'd be suggesting that you are sleeping during the day, nice aren't I - tee hee.
Anyway if you do liberally coat your hair with Brylcreem before you go to sleep your cotton pillow cases will soon have the appearance of Satin pillow cases, that way you get satin like pillow cases bloody cheap-ish!

I remember when using coconut oil was recommended, it'll make your hair shiney they said. So I dutifully tried combing it through my hair, and then had to wash it over and over to just stop it looking like it hadn't been washed in months. Oil and my hair are not mixy things.

oil and my hair are not mixy things... more like icky things that make me look like a homeless drug addict... coconut oil worked great for some of my friends though... very thick hair, I think and it works... other wise.... evil.
Got my hair chopped yesterday. Was hoping for just an inch or 2, but apparently the hairdresser misunderstood.
So instead of getting Willow season 3 hair, I got her short season 4 bob 😳

hope you like how it looks! I mostly avoid haircuts by hairdressers b/c i end up hating my haircuts and sometimes the hairdresser as well. Periodically I do it myself, and once a year or 3 i get a professional reset

Hairdressers do that a lot. That's why I cut my own hair!

Oh, no.
I mean, it's a cute hairstyle, but it's not what you wanted so, oh....no.
It always seems like something gets lost in translation between client and hairdresser. Do not fret, I think most of us have gone through that at some stage. I know I have!

Just remember it'll grow back!

HowiMetdaSlayer it's not that big a deal really
True! It isn't. Last time it happened to me I had a laugh about it.
But your emoticon had a look of alarm so I thought I'd offer some comforting words. 😁

I am taking this as permission for another shopping spree 😀 Satin pillowcases sound heavenly. Is there a specific thread count for these or is it just any satin will do? I imagine it will be nicer on my face too.

Do it! That’s what I did, I now love scrunchies and can’t remember why we ever gave them up for stupid elastics
Oh my gosh they are SOOO much better. Even in the day, I'm not readjusting my hair all day for random pulling strands. Much more comfortable. Im never going back.

Unfortunately, the poodle thinks scrunchies are tiny birds to fit in her mouth, toys for her. So I need to be on guard so she doesnt nick them!

I got some silk pillowcases which were lovely, BUT a) expensive, b) annoying to clean (you need special stuff and blah blah blah), so satin sounds like a much better deal to me! I can’t have high maintenance homewear.

I too bought a silk pillowcase to try out, but am wondering now if I should've purchased satin instead. It sounds like it might be worth it (for maintenance and for less frizzy hair!).

Well, if I pull my fringe straight it now completely covers my eyes and I can pull the back almost down to the shoulder. Not that the curl lets it stay there. If there is a really windy day, I am going to look like I have been attacked by a hedge. Well past time for a cut.

I feel you. low maintenance is me too... and cheap.

The 'satin' ones at walmart are pretty cheap. Pretty sure they're synthetic. They are not that high quality but they make a HUGE difference for my hair. Real silk may be beautiful, but it has friction (I sew and silk comes in different textures, but as a natural fabric, most silk I've encountered have some friction) (Silk also needs careful cleaning. My pillowcases go in the washing machine.

Friction is hair's enemy as it raises roughens the cuticle on the strands of hair, and this causes damage. Silk is less damaging than cotton but satin is even lower friction and that is why it works so well. I don't know about thread count, but the more slippery the satin feels, the better for your hair.

I've found the 'satin' I find in Walmart (and a couple other places) to be entirely good enough for making my hair stop breaking. Before... I had a mass of split ends at the back, no matter what I put in my hair and no matter how often i cut off the split ends, the back soon looked dry and un-cared for. Now, it does not.

You can also find satin sleep caps, if you can tolerate wearing a cap... i can't... and the elastic to hold them on may rub on some of your hair.

From research I just did:
Originally (most?) satin was a smooth 'weave' made from silk... which resulted in the smoother, shiny 'satin' look... Now, apparently, most satin is synthetic.

About hair structure: (and why you don't want to raise the cuticle)

There are a lot of "satin" things for sale on Amazon, too, and I am pretty sure they are synthetic too, given the price. Still, I guess the fake satin is close enough for everyday; if it has most of satin's properties without the price tag, it is good enough.

Exactly, I tried it for a while but the cleaning was a nuisance. I want pillow cases that can go in the washing machine too.

Though I didn’t think of satin, because I didn’t really like the slipperiness of the silk, I started using percale cotton and have had wonderful results with that. So I would say really fine cotton also helps with the friction.

Finally found a satin pillow to order and its coming this week 😀 want to get a few more pillowcases but want new pillows too so might save up a while for that big spend.

I feel like my hair grows really fast. Its actually a lot easier to handle now. Its at the point where I can plait it and it'll stay put all day (and all night) without falling out.

I have a little bit of wiggle room in the groceries so was going to look at getting some kind of moisturising spray for it. The only product besides shampoo and conditioner that I use is a hair oil thats over a decade old. It smells lovely and lasts forever, a little goes a long way. But I dont know where to buy it and thought maybe one of those little face mist type sprays might work more evenly. So that's the next lifestyle creep for me haha.

I gave myself a really thick fringe this week. I really like it. With the weather it was just too curly, now it is heavy enough to sit down. It feels much more comfortable, but hopefully not too hot for summer.

I also found the decade old hair oil online and the formula is pretty much still the same, maybe not as thick. I am pleased. It was cheaper direct from the company than I remember paying too!
