And as many people in this thread have attested to, they would fall under clinical death on occasion but they aren't dead.
If the Slayer line can't differentiate between ACTUAL death and a moment the heart stops(which isn't death - Clinical Death is the name GIVEN to this event doesn't actually mean it is DEATH) then over the course of the Slayer's life(all Slayers) there would have been more than one incident when a Slayer was activated while another was alive.
You can't just presume that the same thing has happened to lots of other slayers, where is the proof of that?
Your also giving the Slayer line a conscious though. There is nothing to suggest that the power differentiates between anything. From what I've seen, from the show, is that when one body gets switched off the power that's already in the slayer gets turned on - Which I think would make sense, once Buffy's heart stops pumping, her blood stops moving, her body is off. So the next girl gets activated.
Because getting right down to it, once that starts you are dead, it's only through doctors being able to intervene that the different stages occurred, and we don't know whats considered death to the slayer line, but from the evidence the show has given us, it's clinical death.
You're making the BIGGEST mistake by bleating on with the term Clinical Death because this isn't actual death.
Just because some man gave this event a name that has death in it DOES NOT MAKE IT SO.
Correct, but it is the first stage of death and it's only with some kinda intervention does the person live, so it's only because we have doctors and people that know CPR that the term had to come about, cuz without someone to intervene it means death.
If you want to make the slayer line out to be almost like a character, that would work too, the slayerline has been around since way before CPR and other methods to revive people came about, so maybe when it gets to Clinical death it hasn't realised the person can be revived so the next girl gets activated.
No death occurred, to be ignorant of that fact is either based on not understanding what all these terms mean or blind following of Joss.
Considering the whole topic of when exactly death occurs and what makes death, death is an unanswered question, I love how you can just say that no death has occurred.
As for yoru 'Villains' piece, thats just absolutely absurd.
You can argue that Buffy died in PG and that activated a Slayer, even though actual fact states that couldn't have happened (and don't use Clinical Death again as even Doctors don't class it as a legal DEATH) while dismissing the flatline event as Buffy's heart hadn't stopped beating.
Amazing, absolutely amazing.
OK, the electrical energy coming off Willow would have been intense, HOWEVER, there is not one iota of evidence that this charge will affect machinery the same way.
Just because other devices were fluctuating doesn't mean the heart monitor wasn't affected.
At the same time, the heart beats because of eletrical impulses which could have been affected by the energy.
I agree that she didn't die (I believe that it was because of the energy coming off Willow) I just don't get how an otherwise intelligent guy could make such a large assumption.
OK, I'll pose one.
Why when every other device that was in the room fluctuated did the heart monitor NOT give in to the energy surge?
Facts do not state that's what happened, facts state she died (or at least entered the first stage of it) and so the next girl was called.
Watching back over that piece in Villains again, the only thing that flickers are the lights, all the other machinery around Buffy don't go out. Also before Willow enters the room the nurse watching the machine says that Buffy's Blood pressure was dropping which meant her heart was slowing down, and coming to a stop, then Willow comes in, the doctors leave. Buffy's Blood pressure continues to drop faster and faster, as the machine indicates, until eventually it stops according to the machine.
It's also a known fact that just cuz the screen shows a flat line does not mean the heart has completely stopped, again it's just beating to slowly to be recognised, which clearly means it's way lower then it should be, allowing the doctors to get a move on jump starting it.
I love how my idea is absolutely absurd, but the idea that Willow walks into the room, and her power conveniently allows the heart monitor to gradually come to a flat line, and not just jumping right to it, isn't.
