I was trying to repair my favourite shades with Super glue. But I held the two parts together longer than necessary, and ended up with the shades glued to my finger. That sucked. Good thing I had acetone!! I can't smoke yet because I had to soak my finger in the acetone for 10 minutes to get the glue off. Acetone is very flammable. The cigarette can wait. 😂

Maybe that will inspire you to quit 😀

Coincidentally enough, I'm being threatened with eviction if I continue smoking at home...its a rule that only started being enforced because ALL of my neighbours and their kids are home everyday now...

I'll know the verdict tomorrow (my birthday!) after the HOA meeting on Zoom. I'm pretty pissed, of course. We'll see what happens.

I'm not endorsing smoking, but how can they decide what you do in your own apartment? Unless it's in your lease that the place is non smoking?

This is a condo complex set on 66 acres; my parents own mine, I rent from them. Now here's the dodgy part...its the Association's relatively new rule regarding no smoking, but its NOT in the lease. (My stepfather also happens to co-own the realty company that manages my unit) and I've been getting "notices" since July about the smoking. I DEFINITELY realised that they're trying to pull a fast one here, since my lease doesn't prohibit smoking; they're trying to say that by "disturbing" others with my smoking, I'm somehow invalidating the lease. I've just been too tired, too stressed, and too enraged to think this through properly.

The realty company and the HOA are two separate things, of course. If you have any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I guess it depends on how important smoking is to you 😀 I would assume you don't want to hire a lawyer. Can you stepfather help? Seems like he would be knowledgeable.

Is there any type of agreement with the HOA that explains what they can and can't restrict? Is there any opportunity to negotiate that you will only smoke inside and not outside where others would be impacted?

Smoking is one of my few joys in life. 😂

My stepfather won't help. He's taking care of my mom, and I guess all of these recent complaints (plus the fines from the HOA) have finally pushed him to the edge. Believe me, this WOULD never have been an issue if my mom were her old self. She was always fiercely protective of me, and wouldn't hesitate to call bullshit on something that looked sketchy. She was confrontational and never backed down. But now, she's got Alzheimers and so I no longer have a champion.

There's no way an agreement can be struck with the HOA, since I'm not the owner. Plus, the people who are complaining are MY SISTER (who lives next door and has no life) and a couple next door who moved in a few years ago and haven't stopped breeding.

My stepfather said, "If you don't stop smoking, you'll be evicted." My sister keeps her window open so she can report when I smoke. Seriously. So yeah, it's all stressful and rage-making. But I like smoking and I'm NOT going to stop. I'm not trying to be "rebellious" or whatever, it's just that I'm inside my own place! And suddenly I'm just supposed to stop smoking, like magic? Naw.

We'll see what happens.

Good Luck :)
Did you sign HOA paperwork? If not, then you are not bound by it. If you did or you are subletting from your parents and they did, you should read the part that allows them to amend the rules. If it is not on the lease, they cannot amend that. Your plan to escape Commiefornia and go to Montana? It may come into play sooner than you expect. And you would be living north of me, a Canadian who is within walking distance of 43.6 degrees north latitude. Maybe you should move to Toronto. We would welcome you.

Yeah, there's a lot of better places than California. But I a lot worse too. I can think of a few states I wouldn't want to live in before I didn't live in California.
You don't want to move to Toronto because then you'd have to be a Blue Jay fans.

Is this a coded message that you do want to move in with me as my live-in cleaning lady? Perhaps your cleanliness will outweigh the smoking!

That one way of getting a maid plus I think the smoking would be cheaper then playing for a maid . Unless their a chain smoker that is.

I'm traumatised just thinking about it. 😂

My parents came by yesterday and gave me money...my mother asked if I was okay, and said I was very much loved. My stepfather mentioned the upcoming Zoom HOA meeting, and said he'd tell them I was going to comply. Of course, I'm NOT going to. And unlike my sister, I never say things I don't mean just to get by. I told him that his realty company does NOT have the authority to enforce this complex's rules, and unless I signed a new lease which prohibited smoking, I wasn't required to "comply." He was quiet for a moment, then said, "Please, just do it." A couple of years ago, I might've empathized with him, but he's been such a dick lately, I just feel nothing. No love, no empathy.

For example, we had a verbal agreement ten years ago that utilities and cable were included here. It was my mother's idea, and I was quite grateful. But without even notifying me (or telling her) he suddenly closed all of the accounts on July 6th. If it wasn't for the Governor's temporary ban on the utility companies shutting people off, I would've woken up one day without electricity or gas. (I only found about this because the companies sent letters addressed to New Customer) God, all he had to do was tell me. As it was, I DID wake up on Monday, July 6th with no cable... 9 years of DVR recordings were just gone. I quickly opened a new account, but still, that shit was SO unnecessary.

Anyway, they just dropped off a birthday cake 30 minutes ago. As they were leaving, my stepfather said, "If you keep smoking, you WILL be evicted." Yeah, yeah. Whatever. You just go ahead and try, motherf.....😂

Oh, yes...I made a public Facebook post since I know that two of my neighbours stalk me there to find out what I'm thinking. I am NOT kidding. Therefore, I gave them some food for thought. 😈

Ah ha! Found my lease, and it says that I can't smoke outside in common areas. It says NOTHING about smoking indoors. So, the realty company DID lie, and I'm NOT in violation of my lease. Sure, my parents will get fined when someone complains...but thems the breaks. My cigarettes are a big part of my life. It's a good thing I calmed down and took decisive action; meaning that I read the entire lease, word for word. 😁

They can all bite me, especially the neighbours who've been complaining about the cigarette smoke.

It's too hot, okay having the oven on today probably hasn't helped but still.

I made a courgette loaf, and have pea and mint soup cooking in the slow cooker. I am however looking for a volunteer to clean up the kitchen now!

Coronavirus will be over before ABS quits smoking, regardless of if she gets evicted or not.

Agreed on that 😎
