Ah ha! Found my lease, and it says that I can't smoke outside in common areas. It says NOTHING about smoking indoors. So, the realty company DID lie, and I'm NOT in violation of my lease. Sure, my parents will get fined when someone complains...but thems the breaks. My cigarettes are a big part of my life. It's a good thing I calmed down and took decisive action; meaning that I read the entire lease, word for word. 😁

They can all bite me, especially the neighbours who've been complaining about the cigarette smoke.

They can't do anything to you then. A lease is like a legal contract, when you sign one, you agree to adhere to the terms and conditions of the lease. If one party wants to change the terms and conditions, a new contract has to be drawn up and signed. Because there is nothing in your lease prohibiting you from smoking indoors, you can't be kicked out for doing so specifically. However, just be careful that they don't try to hit you with "ant-social behaviour" because they can use that to try and kick you out.

Every time I go to McDonald's to avoid cooking in the heat, I forget how much my apartment feels like a sauna when I come back with the food. It's probably better to just never leave my apartment at all and eat cold food from the fridge instead 🙁

Its unfortunate that my parents get fined by the HOA because of this. But considering how my stepfather AND his realty management company LIED to me about this, I'm not too broken up about it.

I'm pissed because of all the stress this has caused me. Basically, my stepfather just caved in when he discovered that several neighbours were complaining. I know him, he just didn't feel like dealing with it, so he threw me under the bus. My neighbours have always complained. The only thing that's different now is that SO many people are home all day because of the semi-lockdown. They've decided that I should change my routine. Oh, really? 😂 That's just NOT going to f'ing happen. Never.

Still, I've looked up a few legal firms that specialise in tenant-landlord disputes (the ones that offer free consultations). Just in case. Because they also tried to say that my smoking was causing a "disturbance." That's a bit of a stretch, but still. I'm pretty pissed off.

I'm so proud of you!

I was the de facto contracts officer in two of the companies I worked for because I had been hired as program manager and the first thing you do when you parachute into a new situation like that is READ THE CONTRACT and find out what the idiots who came before you signed up to and don't take anyone else's word for it. (Brian and Clemens, you know who you are!). In the first company, they had signed up to a design escrow agreement meaning that if we couldn't produce the product in time, they would be able to take the design and have it built by another manufacturer of their choice. Brian (CEO and president) asked me to read the 30-page escrow agreement and use post-it notes to flag anything that was going to be a showstopper. I used up half a pad of post-its on that agreement. Brian thought I was being excessively concerned and called in the company lawyer to read it. He went apes*it at the same things i did. I asked why they signed it and the CEO said, "We had to sign. Our backs were against the wall."

The next case was one where I went in years after the contract had been signed. I found three items in the 121 Federal Acquisition Regulations and Defence Federal Acquisition Supplements that were called up in the contract that said we didn't have to give our customer the rights to software or hardware design and we could sell directly to the government and not have to sell through our customer. I found this a week after I joined and the CEO, Clemens, said, "I don't know you that well but if I did, I would hug you." More stuff was grossly underestimated like a maintainability analysis that we quoted as taking one day. (For this analysis, you have to determine how long it takes you to diagnose and repair a piece of equipment and this is done by counting the time required to remove screws, remove panels, diagnose the problem, install parts, replace panels and tighten screws. This analysis usually takes several weeks and may expand into months.) We didn't get paid for that work package because we didn't do it and we didn't do it because the people who came before me didn't understand it. When I asked why they signed the contract, the production manager said, "We had to sign. Our backs were against the wall,."

Is this some standard phrase they teach in some business courses? It may be the case that they had to sign but there was no excuse for not knowing what they signed. So congratulations to you for being more aware than a couple of senior company officers. Add your stepfather to the list of people who may know how to read, but don't know what they are reading or to never sign without reading.

Thank you. 😊

This is new to me, because I've NEVER had any reason to doubt my family in matters such as these. They've always looked after me and my siblings in business matters, they were never the "bad guy." So naturally, I automatically believed my stepfather...at first. But I'm not stupid. Something just didn't feel right. And after weeks of vague threats, stress, and massive annoyance, I finally grabbed the reins of this situation.

I should've known something was up when I popped by the realty office on Friday to pick up that copy of my lease. The property management woman (my stepfather's employee) looked surprised, yet gave me a bright smile and asked, "How are you?" (How am I?! Well, I'd like to stab all of you in the face. Thank you for asking)

Anger has always been a great motivator for me. Still, it's a bit sad that now I must view my parents as the opposition. But they forced my hand.

Did you think your parents were untrustworthy when you found out about Santa Claus?
So I'm 3 KG away from my pre-lockdown weight...
Every time I go to McDonald's to avoid cooking in the heat, I forget how much my apartment feels like a sauna when I come back with the food. It's probably better to just never leave my apartment at all and eat cold food from the fridge instead 🙁
What do you usually get at McDonald's ? I usually get a big mac with a side of fries or potato wedges.

I have two that I jump between based on my mood; 1) Quarter Pounder menu with a Double Super Cheese on the side or 2) a McBacon and a Double Super Cheese with french fries and a coke. Sometimes I switch the coke for a chocolate milkshake 🙂

I grabbed some Taco Bell on my birthday. It was amazing. I'm getting A LOT more on payday.

That semi-threatening message I left on my Facebook page (for a few neighbours) was quite fulfilling. If course, I never mentioned anyone by name. But it still reaches the right parties. 😊

Just be careful it doesn't come back on you.

I didn't post any names with it....anyway, those people are continually complaining about me because they're stuck at home. The fact that they've teamed up, and are trying to change MY daily routine is annoying beyond measure. Getting the HOA involved was petty.

If you move to Montana, keep one thing in mind: Sexual intercourse is legal in Montana, but only in the missionary position. Home of the brave. Land of the free. Bwahahahahahaha.

If you moved here to Canada, there are no such laws and a generation ago, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (Justin's father) said the government does not belong in the bedrooms of the nation and laws were rewritten to make it stick.

Canada is so different 😎

Well, my day sucks. I don't know why this thing got stuck in my head but it ain't going nowhere. I don't know where it came from but it's stuck.

Did some laundry today, got more for tomorrow, and the day after - that's what happens when you clean up your whole apartment from being a mess lol - and then went to the mall for some hair color and ended up buying three new books that sounded interesting. I read 50 pages of one (and then threw it away in a rage) so that was great.

Now I ask for help - I bought two boxes of dye, blue and purple, and I want to do half-and-half. But what do you guys think? One side blue, one side purple? Or bottom half one color and top half the other color?
