Yesterday, I noticed a HUGE puddle of water in the hallway...the water heater was leaking badly. The plumbers are installing a new one today...they'll be here within the hour. This happened before, in 2017 and that water heater flooded the entire hallway, plus part of of the bedroom. So, I'm getting ANOTHER water heater before this one has a chance to flood the bedroom. Ah well.

Yes, it would be a dream to live in a place where criminals aren't coddled. Our officials talk a great game about how they're going to "fix" California....but they're lying their asses off. Mobs of people raid businesses, grab merchandise, and casually walk out. There's no fear of repercussions because there AREN'T any. We have homeless encampments everywhere...in parks, under freeway overpasses, on beaches...and residential streets. Things are pretty grim.

Texas sounds great, except for the tornadoes and hot weather.
 
It's another hot day here, so to try and keep my black cat cool I have a cool mat. It's just one of those gel type ones for dogs. But to get him to actually lie on it, I have to be near it, so it's keeping my feet cool too.
 
Ran some errands yesterday morning (mainly to be out of the house while the plumber was working). My last stop was the market...I was nearly there when the "service engine soon" light started blinking. And I could smell the aroma of burning oil. Yeah, I've seen THIS movie before! I should've gone home that very moment, but I needed Oreos.

Cradling my package of cookies, I stealthily approached the truck. I thought that if I snuck up on it, I might have a chance. 😄 I should've known better. It wouldn't start. So I popped the hood and let the engine cool down for awhile. Thankfully, that worked. If it hadn't, I was fully prepared to leave it there and walk home.

It's sitting outside right now, daring me to drive it again. Which I will, of course. ☠️

If the Check Engine Light starts blinking, this means the engine has detected a misfire and if the vehicle is driven much farther, it will destroy the catalytic converter. The faults of this type are usually ignition but they can also be caused by fuel injection (which does not damage the converter). It detects the misfire by checking the time interval between ignition pulses. There is a normal variation but if it doubles suddenly, that means one cylinder went dead.

You would get the smell of burning oil only if oil is leaking onto the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes.

I can't really diagnose it from here, but you should become familiar with your vehicle and see if any manuals for it are on a website. I have a manual that I downloaded for free from the pdftown site for my Subaru Legacy wagon and another for the Miata. It will at least give you an idea of what to look for.

I've done a lot of reading/video watching about the truck's issues, and I agree with what you said. It's DEFINITELY an ignition problem, and the AutoZone diagnostic indicates the same thing...mainly that it's a distributor issue. As for the burning oil smell, I figured out that oil was leaking somewhere inside the engine...because there were no puddles underneath the vehicle. I only smell it when the engine is running hot, which is why I try to avoid driving in warm weather.

I learned online how to fix some of the issues, but I'm way too nervous to try. My engine is a huge old V8 and the thought of actually reaching in there to replace parts scares the crap out of me. 😄

But I'll definitely look for a manual.

As you were saying, since there are no consequences for theft, because some idiot liberal declared publicly that they would not prosecute thefts under a certain amount (I think it was $200), most companies are in the process of leaving. This means they have to transport their inventory out of state, an expensive proposition. It is easier to burn it all and claim the insurance.

Yeah there seems to be a push towards online ordering. Less store fronts, less risk. The only people who can order online must have a card to do so. And so only the smart computer criminals can steal now and not the dumb ones who steal lippy for fun.

Here in California, if someone steals something under $950 it's considered a misdemeanor. Which means if they're caught they'll usually be booked and released. That's why they're willing to risk the crime. It's really out of control here. Yesterday, a homeless guy broke into a family's home while they were asleep...and randomly decided to set the house on fire. The family got out, but their cat didn't. 🥺 This is really becoming like the film Escape From LA.

 
It was nice to have a summer weekend day that wasn't too hot to be outside. A friend and I went for a walk in a lovely, shady park. Normally, it's very quiet, but the Blue Angels flying team is in town, so they were roaring overhead. It seemed like they were scraping the treetops at times, they were so low! But it is fun to see them fly by.
 
Oooh, I forgot to mention that I got ten cans of kipper snacks. I'm really thrilled about it. 😄 Got crackers too.
 
Having a low day today. Perhaps the new moon just making me tired, maybe just sad for another sunny day. Took the dogs walkies and they were wonderful and relaxed for a nice walk with no people in sight. Xander ate all his breakfast AND hay, which is fantastic. Anya is fatter than she has ever been in her life because she cant miss out on all the extra treats Xander gets.

Not much planned for today. Might get out in the garden this arvo.
 
Spent last night at the emergency with the dog, which was draining. He is fine now though, not the best way to start your vacation though

Currently watching House of the Dragon fans troll each other online. Tonight's the finale, and a lot of people are way too excitable. But the insults are extremely entertaining. Also, one guy was pissed about the spoilers, and told people to knock it off. Which resulted in even more spoilers, of course!

Fan #2: Read? I doubt it. You seem like more of an audio book person.

Ouch. 😅

There are times when audio books are a good idea. Have you ever tried reading a book whilst driving a car?
