How Was Your Day?

Overnight roadworks have just started outside my place. I can feel it and I'm not at ground level.

Mine was good! I'm visiting my mother in Chicago through Tuesday. We had a lovely day. Did some errands for her, got lunch and then went thrifting. Found some good deals on items we both needed. Then headed home to do laundry. I then headed out for a quick dip in Lake Michigan, which was very refreshing. Now making us a light dinner, and about to eat and watch some TV together.

My stepdad just called me with a huge surprise. He said my truck was ready and I should pick it up. What?!! I'd never told him it was in the shop. But somehow he found out and paid for everything. Again. 😳

Honestly, I haven't been this surprised and grateful in a long, LONG time.

Maybe God wants you to see a more blissful side of life than Goth emotions but maybe it's just that your father knows that you will come to him if you need another vehicle. Flip the coin. Either way, be sure to thank both God and your father.

Funny you should say that because God is definitely in the mix. I was fully prepared to take the bus if the truck wasn't fixed. Of course, I didn't WANT to take the bus...but I was fully prepared to do so if need be.

I definitely thanked God...and my stepdad. This is one of the BEST surprises I've ever experienced. Mere words cannot fully express my emotions. 💕

Had a whirlwind five days going to my dad's apartment (soon to be my brother's) to make sure the mice haven't gotten in, and to look through things one last time to see if I wanted to keep anything. I spent most of my time going through my dad's immense collection of photo albums. Not how I wanted to spend possibly my last time in his lovely small town, but I will be glad to have the photos, as I'm not a photographer myself. And it was nice to reminisce as I looked through them. It was hard to say that final goodbye, but it was still a break from the hell of executor duties.

Went to the coast today, it was busier than expected down there! But so much easier to navigate in a tiny car. What a big difference this new car makes to ease of life! But now I made it smell like Pizza cos I got pizza for the drive home. Anyway, I should be all set for the school holidays now.

Got home and my neighbour frantically knocked on my door, his other brother died suddenly on the weekend 🙁 bleeding in the belly, that would usually be fixable, except he was 91 and the doctors didnt want to operate at his age. So he passed away. Now my neighbour is going down to Esperance for his funeral and I get to feed the horses again. Yay for the horses, but less yay for my neighbour who is the last of his immediate family alive now. His nieces and nephews seem pretty good about checking in on him from time to time despite the distance, but I am sad for him as it was only recently the eldest brother died.

Watching the news now, and they are telling people to stay away from the whales. This used to be common sense, but now people are going out with paddle boards and kayaks and being busted by drones for doing it. I miss swimming at the beach but they are full of knobheads.

Forget about "new car smell", pizza is an improvement in every way!
The guy who delivers from the dispensary is SUCH a sweetheart. Usually we chat a bit before he leaves. Today he mentioned how unstable the current state of the world is, and that his biggest fear is seeing a mushroom cloud in the distance.

He was literally shaking as he spoke. So to cheer him up, I said, "The blast wave from the nuke would incinerate you within seconds, so you wouldn't feel any pain." He looked at me for a minute, then broke out laughing.

I do what I can to bring joy to the world. 😄

Just a sweet old-fashioned girl, aren't you?
Had a good day today as there was no Senior Center sing along so I got a bit of a break. 🎸
The wife and I had a nice lunch out and did a little shopping.

It’s funny reading this because I’m currently reading The Tommyknockers, and there’s a lot of fear of nuclear Armageddon there too. And that was in the 80s!

All that time and turns out we’re right back where we started

At the British Car Day, a Jaguar XJ220 that can go up to 220 mph with a twin turbo V6 under the glass hatch.

This has a complicated instrument panel. As well as the speedo and tach, there are four small gauges on the dash and another four in the door. You can only see two in the dash and two in the door in this picture, but they are all there.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is the Beeton Quadricycle of 1898: You pedalled the vehicle to start the gasoline engine. You can see the wave-shaped copper intake pipe going from the carburetor in the gas tank to the intake side of the intake-over-exhaust single-cylinder engine. The passenger sat in the front and served as the 5 mph bumper. There was no differential, so you had to keep enough speed in a turn to keep the engine running but if you were too fast, it would flip over.

Not sure I'd want to be the passenger on that one! But I wonder if they've considered adapting this design for a modern hybrid. Except instead of electric/gas, it would be human-powered and gas. Anyway, very cool photos!

Its nice to have the horses to feed. Puts some structure in my day. And better this time cos I only have to feed them twice, morning and night. So it feels like a real start and end to the day. The dogs are good in that they make sure I go for a walk every day, but that doesnt really matter what time at this time of year.

I moved Astro fish back into the big pond. She didnt seem to be doing well in the winter out there so I brought her in, but the water has warmed up now so she can go back out with the boys. I hope they dont bully her but I dont really have anywhere else good to put her. My indoor tank is really too small for her and Doyle is getting big! Lorne 2.0 is still quite small, but still an active and happy fish despite not thriving. I fixed up the aquaponics again today but dont want any out there on their own. Its not as stable a system.

My 96 year old neighbour is dying. Another lady from town called me today and said shes turned yellow and the family are doing christmas this weekend because shes not going to make it to christmas this year. Shes been active and well, unlike her sister whos been battling cancer a long time. They live together and I dont see one living without the other for long. I want to take some flowers from my garden to them as I know they like them but also dont want them to think they are rest in peace flowers haha.

Went to golf yesterday and played really well! It was 3 stick, so I just pulled out a driver, hybrid and putter, and carried them. I should do that every time! Only 5 of us turned up since it was AFL grand final day, so the 4 men went out together and I played on my own behind them. I thought that was an excellent way to play. But one of the men messaged me today and just had to ruin golf by saying how much he wished he was younger cos he thinks I'm so nice 🙄 why do they have to be seedy?! Now I feel uncomfortable about going back. I've never given him my number, he's got it off my golf membership form. I might be done with golf for the year now.

Went to feed the horses this morning, chatted with another neighbour who was watering the garden of the neighbour who was away. Shes going through breast cancer treatment for the second time. He came home to pick up the ute keys from me after lunch. I washed and clipped the dogs, then heard from an old friend on messenger so caught up with her. Now all the pets are fed, I am too, waiting for The Amazing Race AU to start on tv.

Eww to that guy! I hope he won't intimidate you from playing anymore!
I had a good weekend, went to the zoo and aquarium with a friend. We did get stuck in football traffic for nearly an hour, and when I say stuck, I mean we moved maybe 50 feet in that time. Won't make that mistake again! I was glad to have a respite, because this week is going to be about helping my brother move. I've never dealt with professional moving companies before, and it's a lot more complicated than I thought.

Did the zookeeper thank your friend for returning you?

I got a haircut as my hair was several inches long and the look on waking was less "sexy sleep-tousled curls" and more "been standing in a wind tunnel."

There was a new dent in my truck Saturday morning. 😡 I knew it was the neighbour's handyman...he drives a large, white Dodge pickup. (And the dent had white paint on it)

After ranting and swearing a bit, I noticed the note on my windshield. At least the guy left his phone number! I called him, he came down, apologized, and asked, "Can we work something out?" Straight to the point, I told him I wanted cash. The dent wasn't THAT large, so I said $80-$100 should cover it. He gave me $120 which was fine with me. He looked terrified, probably because his employer (my neighbour) would probably fire him if he knew about the incident.

He told me to call him if I needed anything else. Which I'm not going to do, because it's far too tempting to gouge him...and I'm TRYING to be a good person.

Trying to be a good person SUCKS. 😄
