How will Buffy eventually die?

Do you think Buffy will eventually, truly die? And if so, how?

I know Joss once said that he doesn't like the idea of Buffy ending, that he sees her as living forever-but perhaps he meant that figuratively.

How does your Buffy die? What do you feel would be an appropriate/ideal death for her?

Personally, I'd like to see her go out fighting some baddie, with Spike by her side. Sure, that's the romanic Spuffy in me talking, but I also think it's true to her character, to die in battle defending others, and fulfilling her mission and destiny.

Thoughts?
 
Did you ever see "The Ghost And Mrs Muir?" If not, you've missed a great love story and the perfect ending for a character like Buffy.

Mrs Muir, an old lady, dies quietly in her bedroom. The Ghost, who had fallen in love with her when they first met (she was a widow with two children at the time) comes through the balcony door and says, "Get up, my love," and the young Mrs Muir stands and comes into his arms, leaving her old body behind. They join hands and walk out the door together.

(Who Buffy's "ghost" should be is up to every individual's own imagination. It doesn't HAVE to be Spike.)

(That's a really lousy description of a truly beautiful scene, but if you're into classic B&W movies, I highly recommend it)

In my head, Buffy continues to defy the whole "early death" thing and lives out a long, full life. She'll keep fighting baddies until she's in her 50s (maybe not as often or extensively as she does now) after which she'll hang up her crossbow and move into a nice condo with Dawn, Xander, and their kids. Weekly dinners with the rest of the Scoobs. Something may occasionally rise up that will require her to get back into slaymode, but very infrequently.

I don't see Buffy ever settling down with anyone or having kids, but by the time she's older she'll be completely okay with that -- she won't be resigned or bitter, but content and full of life.

Ultimately she dies a natural death, surrounded by the people she loves. Warm, happy -- anything but what the Shadowmen predicted.

Perhaps slayers are actually immortal. Slayers are always dying young so no one would really know if it were the case. Not all immortals are like vampires and are locked at a certain age, some age to a certain point before stopping, like Wolverine.

Assuming she is mortal though I think that she would live a long life, there are only so many times we can see Buffy die in battle. I like to think of a scenario where Angel becomes human and the two of them settle down together somewhere away from the fight to grow old and die together.
 
Personally, I don't want Buffy to die young - not in battle, not being sucked into a portal, none of it. I want her to live and long and - hopefully - happy life.

There was always this thing about Slayers dying young and Buffy has always managed to be better than that. I don't want her to ruin that now by getting herself off by some noob vamp who gets a lucky shot.

Considering what Buffy has faced and survived - and not survived - it's going to take either a lucky shot from some noob, like I said, or the ULTIMATE big bad - someone bigger than we've ever seen. And considering what we've seen in the comics so far, that's going to take some beating.

Honestly, I want Buffy to just be able to live her life. I don't want the message of Buffy being better and outliving all other Slayers to be washed away. She's still only, what? 26 or 27? That might be the oldest Slayer we've ever seen when it comes to canon Slayers (though there is a Slayer in the Tales of the Slayers novels who was the Slayer for 18 years before she died) but that still isn't enough, in my opinion.

So, no, I don't want her to die. Just in a bed surrounded by fat grandchildren, lol.
 
Actually, in my mind's eye, I see her die in a car accident or something. I like the idea, because I think it's kind of ironic. All her life she's been fighting evil, she's saved the world, and what her actually kills her is just an accident that could have happened to anyone.
This probably sounds totally lame to most people, but I like it.
 
I find it hard to divorce where I feel Joss is taking the verse with how I think she will die. From where I'm sitting Joss is trying to transform Buffy into a comic franchise, which essentially renders her immortal. There is no end to her story. So, for me, there's three versions of how I think it will/could happen:

1) The Buffyverse continues indefinitely in comic book form. In that case I don't see Buffy dying any time soon. I could see her dying in battle and being brought back (Again again) but final death does not become her.

2) The Verse does reach an end point. In that case I'd like to see Buffy going out in battle, with a sword in her hand, defiance on her face and a killer pun on her lips. I want her to go out saving everyone and I want her to find peace beyond that. Personally, I find this the version truest to Buffy's story and the most powerful legacy she could leave.

3) My personal wish for Buffy is to die, in her sleep, well into her dotage, having lived a happy life, filled with love and family and no demons at her door. But that's the fanfic ending and I don't feel it is true to the story but is really just my need to see this character I love find some peace while she's still alive.
 
I've always wondered if she gets to a certain age will she stop being the slayer.

Potentials have a activation date, and they can't be activated before they reach maturity, since we've seen no old slayers in season 8/9, you could assume (at the moment) that there is a cut off date also and they stop being potentials.

If they do have a potential-expiration date, what would happen if a Slayer reached it while active, it's possible the power would pass on naturally and move to a more suitable candidate. If thats possible, it's possible she could just become human one day get to live on.

But thats a bit boring, and I do see it more like a comic thing, were there wont be an end!
 
The first thing that came to mind weirdly was the tale of the three brothers, from Harry Potter, where she would represent the cleverest of the brother that escapes death until he is ready to meet his faith. In my mind, Buffy is too smart to just die, I think once she's ready too die, she'll greet death like an old friend. When you think about it, both times that she died, she did it somewhat willingly, or at least knowing that her actions would cause death. The way I see it, it doesn't matter if Buffy die of old age, or in battle, or alone, or with people, but in my mind, I'm 100% sure that when she does die, it will be because she wants too, or because she's come to term that it's her time to go.

I guess I don't really have a good answer to this topic.

I don't think Buffy will die. I think, if she hasn't already, she'll soon join the Batman/Superman/Spiderman list of heroes who live on forever in comic form. She may very well die again, but if so, I believe it will be a temporary thing. As time marches on, I could see Dark Horse folding or merging with another comic publisher, and if that happens I would imagine someone, somewhere will pick up the licensing rights to keep producing Buffy. Whether it's in five years, ten or 25, there will be an eventual reboot of the franchise on T.V. or in in a movie, that's just the entertainment world we live in now.

Yeah, I think Buffy will always be around, in some form or another.

I dont think she'd commit suicide, I think she's well past that stage.

But her becoming a vampire could be interesting, she could go from being the greatest slayer to the biggest bad, it'd be an interesting to see other characters approach that and have her be the bad guy to other slayers.
 
Have to say I love the idea of Buffy becoming a vampire.

As other people have mentioned I think she'll live on through the comics

Big battle, powerful enemies and so on. Buffy is hurt, like severely. She loses body parts, legs, arms, eyes or all of the above. Basically, she's physically incapable of slaying. She's alone, her friends are either dead or no longer considered friends and her love interests suddenly lose interest now that she's crippled and unattractive. Buffy however still feels the need to hunt and it's driving her insane. How long do you think it will take her to snap when she knows what's on the other side?

This is just one scenario.

You know what's my dream ending to Buffy's story? Buffy's is put into situation where she has to make a choice between Angel, Spike and [ insert your preferred love interest here ] to ascend into a new universe or a plane or whatever with that one chosen. "So that's my choice, huh?", Buffy says. She bursts into laughter, just hysterical, tears and everything. After a minute she calms down, smiles, takes out two guns, just to make sure and blows her brains out. Blood and everything else splatters onto the gang, [ insert your least favorite vampire ] actually licks it out of his face. The End.

Personally, I'd love to see that without her becoming a vampire. She could go after just about every major character, all of them gave her a reason to seek a revenge. It would have been hard to even call her a big bad, they caused her so much pain. Vampire is nice and fun too of course, just a bit obvious and cliche.

I could kinda see that, but I think she'd still go out and try and fight and just wing up being killed. You could probably call it a suicide by cop type situation, but I could see her confined to wheelchair and deciding to wheel off a cliff.

I also think it'd be way to cliche, but I'd love to see the fun she'd have as that character, basically a female version of Angelus. (I'd actually probably like to see SMG playing the character that way, rather then the character being that way)
 
Buffy would have no soul so she would be a villain though if she were turned into a vamp.

I kinda like the idea of her and Angel dying side by side in some big battle.

I'm not sure how Buffy will die, but I hope it is at least meaningful. I'm curious to see how the comics turn out because there has to be a turning point where all Slayers have died but the line is revived to call Fray as the active slayer in the future.
