I was watching a show called "First Wave" on Space here in the Great White North. It played at 9pm, and I'd put my (at that time) baby daughter to bed, then watch the show. Airing before First Wave was a show that I didn't know the name of, but it had the cooooolest theme music I'd ever heard...it was Angel. I started to watch Angel, but it was the middle of S2 at that point, and I was very lost, not having any background on the characters. I realized that Angel was a spinoff from Buffy, and Buffy had been flying just under my radar for a couple of years. I gave up on Angel, but as the next September came around, Buffy went into syndication, and a local station started to air the episodes, starting with the first one, at midnight on Saturday. I was still intrigued by Angel, and I had read in the tv Guide that Buffy had died...and I didn't know how she would be brought back. I also heard about a musical ep coming up that year...and I'm a sucker for a good musical...so I started to watch Buffy Saturday nights at midnight. Then Space started to air eps in order every day...I taped 'em all, and watched S1 thru S5 on tape as fast as I could while also taping S6 to watch in order when I caught up...***whew*** I missed a couple of eps in there, which I've since seen, but in the confusion I missed the first two seasons of Angel...and I just finished catching up with that earlier this year when Space started to air Angel reruns. I'm not a young guy, and I've seen a lot of shows in my time, but I gotta say that Buffy, and Angel are two of the best written shows ever.
