Reading the paper i was hit by this Headline(see below), so i read the article and its odd...so i wanted your views on it.
Cooing over babies BANNED
Hospital visitors have been banned from cooing at newborn babies - to protect the infants' human rights.
Anyone arriving at a maternity unit in West Yorkshire is warned not to stop to admire children in their cots or speak to the mothers. They are also greeted by posters featuring a doll in a cot with the slogan: 'What makes you think i want to be looked at?'
Hospital staff say thay have acted to protect the human rights of 'little people' who did not deserve to be 'prodded like tins in a supermarket' but critics say the rules are a sign of bureacracy gone mad.
The ban has been introduced at Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax.
Neonatal manager Debbie Lawson said: 'We know most people cannot resist cooing over new babies but we need to respect the child.
Cooing should be a thing of the past because these are little people with the same rights as you or me. We often get visitors wandering over to peer into cots but people sometimes touch or talk about the baby like they would if they were examining tins in a supermarket, and that should not happen. 'every patient has a right to privacy and dignaty, and we say that includes tiny babies as well.'
But Halifax MP Linda Riordan said: 'All mothers want people to admire their babies because all babies are beautiful.'
The National Childbirth Trust added: 'The hospital needs to treat mothers as grown-ups.'
Later, the hospital said the ban was also an attempt to curb infections.
