I Like Connor

NOT a fan of Connor! SO self loathing, which okay, I can understand given the years in hell and all. I think the stubborness is what really pissed me off in the end. Yeah he hated all and wasn't sure who to trust or where he fit in in the grand scheme of things. BUT he had support and love oozing in his direction from all the Angel players but he wouldn't accept it, instead he betrayed, betrayed, betrayed and tried to mask it all behind the woe is me song and dance. UGH, SO infuriating! And the very worst was when he chose to stick by Jasmine's side and protect her despite knowing her true face and all the people she was killing... cause why, she loved him?! Angel and the whole gang were just throwing love at him and he'd have none of it but from Jasmine he couldn't get enough?! Yeah, it just pissed me off! My most cheer worthy moment ever on Angel was when Fred hit him!

The thing is though I think I'm the norm here... I think people that do like him are kinda misguided cause i don't think we were meant to like him... I mean how could we possibly? He was effing everything up!

S5 of Angel, though, he was alright. 🙂

I think I understood his "plight" until the episode right after he and Cordy slept together. He was young, and I could see how he could be persuaded easily bc he had feelings for her. So, I guess to clarify - I like Conner up until 1/2 way thru season 4 and then not again until season 5. hahah

I loved Connor when he was a baby. Then he came back as this "I hate my daddy" teenager and slept with Cordelia which was just ew and I began to despise him. Still do. That whole storyline was the very reason I stopped watching "Angel".

Wow, you stopped watching it because of that? But the end of 4 and all of 5 are so good!
I really hate connor. He was such a dick, and he *VK* didnt suit the part, when he first appeared as a teenager i burst out laughing.

... I thought this was the "I like Connor" thread?

I reeeeally felt that VK was one of those pretentious actors who thinks more of their part and their craft than they should, until I watched the gag reel on the AtS DVDs.

Once I heard him say "Man, I shouldn't've huffed all that paint this morning," on camera (um, a joke, in case you need clarification), I loved VK and Connor forever after! I guess I just needed to lighten up on the character to get the point.

One of the best things about Connor is his stubborness, which he gets directly from his dad. I watch the same theater between father and son in my own family - I think VK and David Boreanez had great chemistry in that regard. It's perfectly natural for family to get in each other's way: expectations, emotional baggage, etc... and all those things keep Connor from falling obediently into place as a warrior on his father's right hand.

Shoot, Buffy got all grumpy for a full season because she got pulled out of heaven after 3 months of residency (or was it 6 months? Whatever, the point still stands). I think Connor should get a little latitude after enduring 17 or 18 years of hell.

I do agree that he was very naive when it came to Cordelia in season 4 and also the way Holtz played him. I guess it was believable, but it sure made me squirm in my seat to see Connor making mistake after mistake and trusting so easily those we could tell were so evil. But oh, well. I think the comeback/closure in Season 5 shows that it was all well in the end.

I would have loved to see Buffy meet Conner...

I had nothing but sympathy for Connor. And Connor meeting Buffy would have been amazing!

Actually i remember the last time i watched those too, and i liked the guy for a while (not Connor but Vincent) and on the commentary the writers whoever ?? really bigged him up and i could see why.. but only for a while...

Does anyone think that he sounds EXACTLY like Edward Norton, especially when Norton's doing the voice over for scenes in Fight Club?

Another reason to love Connor. Ed Norton is in my Top Five for fave male actors.
I like Connor. I think that his storyline was poorly developed, mainly because there was just too much other stuff going on at the time (and the Connor/Cordelia thing was just plain sick. Come on, we get school teacher fired for stuff like that all the time!), and, while the actor did a good job in the portrayal, he just didn't look like Angel's son.

Connor would probably have done well as a spinoff from "Angel," where he realizes that, while he will always love his father, they just can't get along together for any length of time, sort of like the old alpha male and the younger new usurper, so he heads off somewhere else to set up his own territory. Maybe yhey could've paired him up with Dawn or even Nina. in their own show. Angel just overshadowed him too much.

But Cordelia was 21and he was 18 -I don't think that's sick.18 is a respectable age to be having sex, Charisma looked much older than him, but the storyline itself isn't sick.He wasn't a child...
The only time I enjoyed Connor was when Angel was bashing his head in.

Am I the only one here? I thought his character was really interesting. So ya the Conner/Cordelia sleeping together thing was slighty creepy - he's makin' it with his daddy's sweetheart
(well, almost sweetheart)... but, still.. that wasnt necessarily his fault - Cordy's the one who initiated it!

Anyway - is there anyone on here that actually likes Conner besides me?

I like what he represents. There was nothing else they could have brought in that Angel would care about so much. Nothing could be that much at stake.
Originally, I was skeptical about the the Angel and Darla having a kid thing. Yet, her sacrificing herself to save Conner redeemed her, which was a great end for Darla.
I was angry at Conner for how he treated his father, but on more viewings, I've come to appreciate Conner better and understand where he's coming from. One can't truly blame Conner for his behavior ;he grew up in a hell dimension and as result of this is unstable and emotionally immature. So basically I found myself constantly frustrated at his actions throughout S3 and 4, but I guess you can't blame the kid. I just wanted Angel to be happy with his son and everything. What Angel did for Conner at the end of S4 was the ultimate sacrifice. As usual, Angel is willing to sacrifice his own happiness for anothers.

S5 of Angel, though, he was alright. 🙂

In "Not Fade Away" when Conner and Angel met for coffee...that scene always gets me, when Angel finds out that Conner knows he's his father. Angel says something to the effect of asking Conner if he wants to know more and Conner says, "Let's just leave it at this, ok?". That just kills me. Burrrrnnnnn....

Some favorite quotes:

Angel: Go home, now.
Connor: They'll destroy you.
Angel: As long as you're okay, they can't. Go.

Angel: Those who care for nothing, will never understand those who do.
Marcus Hamilton: Yeah, but we won't care.

At first I found Connor sympathetic...but then he just became a little whiny, paranoid bastard with greasy hair.

And that's the worst kind of little whiny, paranoid bastards!
Charlie Kaur agrees: But Cordelia was 21and he was 18 -I don't think that's sick.18 is a respectable age to be having sex, Charisma looked much older than him, but the storyline itself isn't sick.He wasn't a child...

The age thing isn't what's sick, what's sick is that for all intents and purposes Codelia was Connor's mother. She took care of him as baby, fed him, changed his diapers, rocked him to sleep... and then like a few weeks (or a few months, not sure on the exact time of it all) later she was having sex with him, THAT'S what's sick.

I suppose that makes sense... However, you gotta take into consideration that he was sorta a messed up kid overall, growing up in a hell dimension and what-not...

Plus they were onky about four years apart
Connor is kind of like Dawn for me. Sometimes they're really annoying but I couldn' picture it all without them. Cordelia and Connor? creepy. weird. what the hell? I did like Angel and Connor. It brought out an endearing and sensitive side to grumpy vamp Angel. :: vampire

In my eyes Connor isn't to blame at all. He don't remember Cordy at all and don't see the "mother" connection. And how many teenage guys (that likes girls) do you think would turn her down if she made a move? 😉 So is Cordy to blame? Well it might look like her but I say blame Jasmine. So I really don't blame none of Cordy and Connor. The sad thing is that after this happened a lot of people think Cangel just feels wrong. I can get that but think it's unfair. Was Buffy to "blame" for what Faith did while in her body in many viewers eyes? But I do hate the Cordy/Connor scene with a passion, and most of the time I just skip it.

Faith stealing Buffy's body and having sex with Riley (when he thinks she is Buffy) and Jasmine stealing Cordy's body and having sex with Connor (when he thinks she is Cordelia) is sexually violating Buffy, Riley, Cordelia, and Connor.
I dont like connor but I think the actor did a good job. Its the way they made the character which makes me hate him like he shouldnt have tried to kill angel or be so moody, yeah i understand he went to a hell dimension but still trying to kill your own dad? I think that was one of the worst storylines in the whole of Angel connor going to the hell dimention i must admit it was a surprise. However I loved connor in S5 he was so cute and funny thats what i wished he would of been like right from the start.

Connors kinda beginning to grow on me. Time was i couldn't stand him but after seeing Origin and what he can be like im changing my mind. The sleeping with Cordy thing never bothered me, its not the weirdest thing ever, and i dont see how its sick? Wasn't he like, 18 or 19? All things considered, i don't think he was too whiney, and about his attitude and being moody, well he was Angels son...

again the age thing is not what makes it sick, its the fact that Cordelia was like his mother.
yeah i understand he went to a hell dimension but still trying to kill your own dad?
Not only had he been in a hell dimension his whole life, he didn't have any memories of Angel and Holtz had also fed him stories about him all his life. Lets pretend that you're adopted and all your life your adoptive parents tell you what a monster (not actual monster but a murderer and/or rapist or something which enjoyed the killing/raping) your dad is. But also pointing out how charming he could be. That's how he tricked his victims before he took advantage of them. Now imagine you meet him for the very first time at age 17 and he tells you he wants to take care of you from now on. How attached to him do you think you would be then? Maybe you wouldn't try to kill him but adding the life Connor lived and how screwed up he was I wouldn't say it's that hard to understand. Do I think what he did was utterly stupid? Oh yes. But trying to see it from his point of view doesn't hurt.

about his attitude and being moody, well he was Angels son...

I must admit, I tried really hard to like Connor. Yeah, maybe, I cringed a lot whenever there was a scene involving him, but, I tried to see things from his perspective. I mean, the things the kid must've gone through!!! It's really not that surprising he did what he did.
Buuuuut, what really made me want to get inside the "Angel" universe and slap him around a bit, was the entire "Jasmine revelation" that happened in the final episodes of season 4.
The whole: "I grew up in a Hell dimension, raised by a loony" bit, I get. But, choosing Jasmine, no matter who got hurt, is something I must draw the line to. He knew what she was doing and chose to ignore it, simply because he didn't want to deal with things. Whine as much as you want, but, making the entire world pay for what happened to you? Umm, I'd like to get that too, but, afraid, I can't.
Sure, in the end, he seemed to have a wake up call and did the right thing. If only he stopped at that. Instead, he chose again to go and try hurting others, because (again) he simply couldn't deal with things. He'd rather live in this made-up happy world with Jasmine than just accept his dad's real love for him. Love that didn't mean losing your free will. Yeah..don't really get that. I guess some people can't even let themselves try to be happy.
He did get his redemption in season 5. And, yes, I am brave enough to admit that I even shed a tear when seeing the new Connor and even yelled: "Oh, I knew you had it in you!!!"
I could go on even longer, but, really don't want to have objects thrown at me. Sorry for the really, really long rant.

P.S. If I come off as a Connorina (haha, I'm so funny), it's because I had way too much coffee today.
