I Quit....smoking!!!

'Kay if SD and Faith can do it, so can I...at some point over this weekend (when I finish the pack I have) I will stop. T'will be cold turkey...I've found it to be the best way in the past...let's be all grumpy arses together in this thread.

Here's a page to look at if we start to backslide What happens when you give it up

I have plenty of faith that you can do it too!!! WTG MR P!!!!!!
WTG, I am soo proud of you both and very thankful for the support of everyone on the boards!!! Today was rough, 2 of my friends came by work to visit (both are smokers) and I went outside with them to chat while they smoked. Had a nasty headache after they were done, and did have a twinge of want for a smoke, but I held fast. Day 5, smoke free!!!!! Have also convinced one of them to quit smoking too, seeing that she just got over breast cancer. If you have a Walmart around, check out their quit smoking aids. I got the Equate nicotine patches, they are much cheaper than the Nicoderm CQ (15.00 as opposed to 34.00). Keep up the awesome work, you can quit.. all you have to do is want it. Like I told my family, I am not afraid of dying (its inevitable) but I am afraid of dying a painful death by my own hand (and smoking is by my own free will). I want to grow older and see my kids grow up and my grandchildren in the future. Just remember to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!!! (((((Hugs))))) :You_Rock_ :woot:

Well I didn't last long. The weekend and evenings are the worst for me as thats when i'm more likely to smoke.

When I quit before I didn't use any of the gum or anything, I just stopped.

Good too see that commited effort that people are making! And don't worry Faith~ it's human nature to slip... just know that people are online to help get you through it when you're ready to try again!

Good luck to all.... keep up your strength!

Don't despair, Faith! I firmly believe you only are successful when you are ready to be...and you are just not ready yet! No shame in that...even Buffy was cookie dough, and wasn't ready yet. But you will be. And Mr. P has the right idea...no New Year's resolution needed, in fact they usually are a hindrance...just pick a regular day, and just do it...when you are ready!

So, Mr. P...does this mean you'll be even more grumpy than usual?😉 I'll put on extra grump just for support, OK?😉

EDIT: Almost forgot! Way to go, SD, keep up the great work!

Day 8.... Omg, if anyone had told me that I would go 8 days without a cigarette I probably wouldnt have believed them. But Woohooo!!! 8 days, no smoke and 3 of those have been without a patch. Good Luck to Faith and Mr P!!! You can do it, and Faith dont worry about the slip, its normal. Getting easier each day, although the nights are rough, having trouble sleeping, just very restless. Thanks for all the support and encouragement!!! Its made a lot of difference for me!!! :happy30:

Or kill someone and try and get away with it lol

Only joking

Well you can colour me recidivist...I'm back on the evil weed again...things not going so well on the work front (both for me and Mrs P - tho' it's worse for her...and what's bad for the wife...)

Dont feel bad. I have to say that after almost 13 days, I caved!!! Pressure from work and here at home have caused me to seek the evil weed myself. I thought I could do it and I am not giving up, but tonight I actually broke down and bought a pack. Tomorrow is another day!! Right now I am rather p**sed with myself and disappointed!! ::crying::

Ah going back to the old habits can be part of the process, as long as you can get back from them, and like you said there's a new day tomorrow! Good luck.

I'm the same hon I bounce back and forth (she says while smoking) although I only had 2 at work today, my boss is on holiday and i'm doing all his work, not easy to do when i've only been there a few weeks.

If you don't mind me asking how long have you been smoking Mr P?

It's tough.

I tried to quit 3 times.

The first time I managed to stop for 2 months.

The second time I stopped for 3 weeks.

I tried one more time and it's been 8 months now!! I feels good to be smoke free for 8 months. I didn't use anything, just quit cold turkey. I smoked for 10 years (1 pack/day) so trust me, it can be done!!

I know it's tough but you can do it!! :: tu ::

I did it cold turkey the last time, but it only lasted a year

About 20 years, give or take the odd spell of good sense 😉 I know I can give up 'cos I've done it more than once...it's just that every so often...Pointy turns to all the whiny addict excuses...lack of willpower, basically.
