At first I was also left with a disliking of the character. But when I started rewatching the show, I started thinking "She's a hell of a woman!". She's actually one of my very favourite character!
First of all, as you all know, she is funny as hell!
I also think that for an ex-demon, she adjust very well to human's life, finds a job that she really loves, a future husband 🙂confused2🙂...
I like the way she does what she says other humans do, like "Oh, they hug, so I will give a hug too!" (the first hugs she gives are so funny, but they become more, natural in the end. But she still have that "how long is a hug supposed to be" kind of attitude :giggle🙂
And when she taps someone's shoulder to say "It's gonna be okay"...It gets me everytime! :giggle:
It's in season 5 she really started to have more feelings in my opinion, like in Real Me, when she tells Buffy she doesn't have to be too hard on Dawn because she's pretty shaken up. I thought "ANYA says that? Waw!".
Her speech in the body makes you understand the character a lil bit more...she's not exactly rude, she tries to understand! (okay, sometimes she's rude:biggrin3🙂
I love in Forever when she makes that speech to Xander, telling him she has finally accepted the fact she would get older, and was ready to have children some day. But when he was ready for it. That's was a great moment.
In this season, it's also the first time she helps fighting an apocalypse instead of running away!
And! When the other Scoobies are like "Buffy, Buffy, what are we gonna do, what are YOU gonna do?", Anya helps, and even if some of her ideas are crazy, she is pro-active! I'm thinking about her in The Gift (the God's hammer was her idea, go Anya, go!), and in Flooded.
I just really like her character:biggrin3:
