I Seek The Advice Of BB Gamers.

My son has an Xbox360. The rest of us just game on our PCs. Sure wish Sony would hurry up and solve their hacker problem. LOL
 
I've tried PC games sporadically. But my prehistoric desktop often doesn't meet the requirements.
I just wanna plug something into my TV and not have to worry about my processor speed and the strength of my graphics card. 😛

Okay, so mostly the "yea" nods are going for the XBox. Interesting. Question....does the PS3 have backwards compatibility with PS1 games? I know that the PS2 did.......

OH right. In that case..I would still prolly pick Xbox cuz I like their games better. But I don't even know enough about PS3 to disregard it.
 
Gaming grade Pc hardware is cheap as never before, you can get a system capable of running even the newest games in good quality for around 500$.

And a pc is much more flexible, games are cheaper and there is more free stuff than on consoles.

so... PC FTW!!!!

Personally; Big Yea for Sony and Nintendo from me.
I don't have many techspeak to back that decision, just a strong affinity with the Japanese gaming market and its products and the feeling that Xbox = Microsoft = Evil.
Yes, I do have dramatic tendencies.

To be honest, I think people such as Evilbuffy are right to say you should base your choice off the selection of games available (and announced).
Long ago I've made the decision to go wherever squaresoft (yes back then it was squaresoft) leads and that decision hasn't failed me yet. It's even introduced me to a few system exclusive gems on non-square-making in the process.

Personally I still cherish my PS2 and my impressive PS1 and 2 gamecollection. And I'm saving up for a PS3. I still make do without one, because the selection of must have PS3 games on my list is still relatively short and I still have a huge stack of PS2+1 games I haven played through yet.

As for handhelds...I'm sorry PSP, I love you and the square-enix games you harbor...but for the best handheld fun to be had, Nintendo is still the way to go!
 
I've never had an xbox so I can't really argue my case against cause it could be awesome or it could suck...and I just wouldn't know either way 😛 I recently got a PS3 though and I love it. In fact I've been playing it probably more than I should since I got it. Especially considering it's been exam time over the past month 😛 The PSN was down when I got it but now that it's back up I haven't tried it yet so I can't judge on that either. But I love having a PS3 anyway 🙂 But I'm pretty much a sony person. PSP and PS2 were my most played consoles before getting the PS3, even though I have a wii. Wii is cool for games with your friends and maybe at house parties but apart from that it dosen't really interest me that much. So yeah I've never been tempted by an Xbox 'cause I've been into PS stuff since my PS1.
 
Hmm i have a lot of consoles (including retro ones like the NES), but i am a huge PS3 fan. Although i love the PS3 and it is great because it has free online gaming (for those who like that), the xbox is just as good a console (you have to pay for the online gaming - but i cannot see that bothering you too much) and it is a lot cheaper to actually buy. Plus if you decide you do not like the newer consoles then at least you haven't spent loads of money on a new console.
 
Xbox does have much more games, but I'm a big fan of the ps3. It has all the really good games, and some great games that xbox doesn't have. Xbox has more games but ps3 has more diverse games imo. And if you get a backwards compatible ps3 you can play ps2 games, which are amazing.

With the xbox kinect and the playstation move coming out, I actually think the ps3 will do better. The kinect is an impressive piece of technology but there's really no point buying it since there are really no games for it. I've heard the move has some great games, but I don't have one so I'm not 100% positive.

I personally like the ps3 better, though it's more expensive.

If you do decide to buy and Xbox, don't ever buy one used. As you have probably heard, Xboxes, especially older ones, but newer ones as well, have issues with soldering, causing the infamous "red ring of death." If an Xbox red rings, it's pretty much dead forever, but if you heat up the motherboard it will reflow the solder you can make it run for another month or so, and you can do it again a few times but at best you can squeeze out about 3 months. I used to work in game console/repair place and we used to buy red ringed Xboxes for cheap and reflow them, and sell them as used Xboxes, knowing full well they will only work for about a month before they red ring. Glad to say I didn't keep that job for long.

PS3s on the other hand, last for ages. The only issue I've ever seen with a PS3 is a disk reader going bad, but that has a pretty equal chance of happening on any console. Also PS3s play blue-ray.

On a side note about the kinect, despite not having any games, the kinect is a lot of fun to play around with. It uses a USB so if you have some computer skills you can hook it up to a computer and hack around with it. Fun stuff.

Another fun fact, both the Xbox and the PS3 have NETFLIX, which has all of Buffy on it.

Oh oh oh, I forgot to talk about the DS, the DS is amazing. Get the original, not the light or dsi. I hear the DSi isn't great, and the DS Lite is fine, but the original is built like a tank and will last forever. I've lost count how many times I've dropped mine from fairly large height, and it was fine, until I lost it on vacation. I was super upset. And it has a great variety of games. If you love fun, playful, silly games, you will love the DS.

I've gotten some good advice from y'all. But I'm STILL undecided on a system. So, while I think about what you guys said about everything, I thought I'd just not overwhelm my brain circuits and simply start small....then work my way up to a system.

Therefore, I've just purchased a PSP (3K version), which comes with two games; "MLB11: The Show" and "Gran Turismo".

I also bought a separate game for it, "3RD Birthday" (aka, "Parasite Eve 3").
