I always wondered about Xander's relationships. They don't seem real to me. He was never that invested either with cordy or anya as he was with the scoobies. With anya he was pretty passive, just went along with her choices.

Xander seems more invested in familial relationships than romantic ones.

Makes sense, considering his family situation. He's probably, consciously or not, looking for something more stable than romantic attachments.
 

Forest and Grahm.

If only Forest hadn't been so hooked on Riley 😉

If they had been able to accept the other as they were, and not what they wanted the other to be, I think Buffy and Riley could've gone on to better things.
Though I don't like Fresley I think they had the potential to be a supportive couple.

Joss Whedon: And what I was saying with that basically was the idea that Xander is looking for love. Not just trying to get into the pants of every pretty girl that he's friends with, but really looking for something. Some comfort, some love that clearly is lacking from his mother and his family life.
