Beljoxa's Eye - Showtime
The First Evil - Chosen
The Guardian - End of Days
Buffy - I forget the episode. The one where she's talking to the potential's in the basement
Anya - Showtime and Potential
Xander and Willow - Potential
Giles - Showtime (and throughout the season he consistently refers to her as The Slayer
Faith - End of Days
ok, we're gonna do this one by one then.
showtime:
GILES
It's not because she died. The Beljoxa's Eye was quite clear about that in its enigmatic way. It's because she lives. Again. Buffy's not responsible for that.
so here we are given to understand buffy's death caused problems with the slayer line. okay, and i never denied that. are we given to understand the line runs through her? no.
------------------
get it done:
BROWN HAT SHADOW MAN
SUBTITLE: It must become one with you.
BUFFY
No! (struggles against her chains)
RED HAT SHADOW MAN
SUBTITLE: This will make you ready for the fight.
BUFFY
By making me less human?
RED HAT SHADOW MAN
SUBTITLE: This is how it was then. How it must be now.
here we get an example that proves my poing regarding the first's attempt to intimidate buffy into giving into her worst fear of having everything human and all hope stripped from her and remaining nothing but the slayer. that's what the shadow men want to do to her now because they think it's the only way she can win. the first taunting in "chosen", by the way, brings us back to this scene as well.
------------
chosen:
CALEB/FIRST
(rolls eyes) Then why aren't you asleep in your dead lover's arms? (looks over at Spike) 'Cause he can't help you. Nor Faith, nor your friends, certainly not your wanna-slay brigade. None of those girlies will ever know real power unless you're dead. You know the drill: (morphs into Buffy's form)
BUFFY/FIRST
Into every generation, a slayer is born. One girl in all the world. She alone will have the strength and skill to"” There's that word again. What you are. How you'll die. Alone. Where's your snappy comeback?
already replied to that in a previous post, but here's a shorter version: the first attempts to intimidate buffy, to make her doubt herself and the fact she "should have taken the power", that her humanity won't win this fight, only a slayer will, so he keeps repeating she is no more than a slayer - *alone*.
-------------------
end of days:
WOMAN
(admires the scythe) A weapon. A scythe. Forged in secrecy for one like you who"” I'm sorry. What's your name?
"for one like you". it could have been faith standing there wit hte scythe, couldn't it?
either way i believe that the fact buffy was the one who got the scythe proves once more she is in fact the dominant slayer, which i never argued about because she is. does that mean the line runs through her as well? not in the least.
-------------------
potential:
WILLOW
A slayer. Makes sense, I guess. Remember that thing about they share the same blood or whatever?
ANYA
(shrugs) Yeah, I never got that.
DAWN
She has to die. (sits on a chair) I mean, if I was ever the slayer, it would mean she died.
am i the only one hearing the doubt and confusion in this conversation? they are trying to come up with explanations and excuses to something they don't understand.
but that aside - it's been firmly established the slayer line does *not* run through bloodline. it is not the same (unless of course the milions of slayers worldwide are all related). dawn is not potential *because* slayer line and bloodline are two different things. which once more proves the guys were randomly bringing up assumptions.
------------------
end of days
BUFFY
It belongs to the slayer. (picks up the scythe)
FAITH
Slayer in charge, which, I'm guessing, is you.
BUFFY
(sits on the edge of the bed) I honestly don't know. Does it matter?
buffy herself says she does not know who is in charge and that conversation has nothing to do with the slayer line at all!
one thing you should notice though: it's one thing when she says the line runs through her to intimidate potentials into courage and a completely other thing when she admits she's *confused* during a private and open conversation with faith. look into it.
so, any more scripts you want me to read? go ahead, i have all night 🙂
oh and by the way, when you do that, remember the quotes should relate to explaining the *slayer line*, not answering the question "who is the dominant slayer?"
