If Kate hadn't left the show...

Kate COULD have joined Angel Investigations after she left the LAPD, but I think that, at the time, Joss just didn't want another woman on the team at that time. Or maybe it wasn't specifically a woman as much as just another team member that early in the series. They were just getting started, and would, logically, been as compact a group as possible. Then, as the years went by, like any successful company, Angel Investigations was able to expand their personnel in order to handle bigger, more complicated jobs.

On the other side of the camera, I don't think that the character was popular enough to warrant keeping her on as a regular. Kate does reappear in the "After The Fall" series, apparently having taken a page out of Wes' book and become a "Rogue Demon Hunter," and does become a part of Angel's team. Hopefully, we'll see more of her and the rest of the New Angel Detective Agency in Season 9.

I don't believe adding another woman to the team had anything to do with it. After all, it is only a few episodes later that Fred is introduced. The reason Kate left at all is that the actress got a full-time roll on Law&Order or some similar show, I can't remember which.

As for Kate joining the FG, I would have loved it. I think it would have given the audience a chance to like her. And I think she would have been a great addition to the team. I imagine she and Angel would have had a bit of a fling, or something of that nature. Her and Wes could have been good too. Not only that I think she may have brought a measure of levity to the group that they needed. She was a reluctant participant in the underworld, I think her perspective would have been valuable when the FG, so versed in the supernatural, kinda lost sight of what they were doing.

to be honest I'm glad we never saw more of her shes a character I disliked a fair bit and I wouldn't have enjoyed watching her as part of the fang gang. I think she was often unfair to Angel and co and although I know its just characteristics of her character to act that way I think most people in the same situation may have been slightly nicer about everything. I'm just not kean on her.

I didn't remember that she got a job on another show, so that explains why the actor left the cast. That might have been the major reason that the character was written out of the show.Maybe Joss really had planned to keep Kate on in some capacity, and just couldn't offer the money that the other show did. Certainly, he left the option open for her to return. Otherwise, there would have been no miraculous, inexplicable rescue by Angel when she OD'ed. Lindsey left and came back later. Kate might have, in fact DID come back, in Season 6, and she possibly was supposed to return to the show if it hadn't been canceled.

Then again, maybe Joss already had plans to bring Fred into the story, and just thought that her story would be more interesting than one of an ex-cop hunting down the demons responsible for her father's death, basically a plot device very often used in just about every variation on every detective and P I series and movie that has ever been made. Minus the demon part, of course.

And as for Angel and Nina having a "fling," no way. He was saving himself for Nina.

I believe Fred would have never been introduced to the show. I think it would have been awesome for Kate to join the Fang Gang and be their connection to the police force. I would have loved to have seen the Angel/Kate relationship grow, there was subtle hints being dropped whenever they were on screen together. Would she have been better than Fred though? That's for another thread😛

LMAO Your banner cracked me up. Love it!
I think Kate distrusted and disliked Angel (and the rest of his team) enough that she would never have been quite willing to make the choice to join that team. Even though she was developing in the direction of greater willingness to help him, she still wouldn't have ever signed up for Angel Investigations.

I don't know... After he saved her life, I think she was beginning to trust him again. I think he eventually would have won her trust again and she would have been part of the AI team.

Interesting question.

No, I dont see her becoming a full-fledged member, but I think she would have eventually come around and become an outside ally or partner. Being a cop was a huge part of Kate. It's who she was. I can't see her giving that up. Also, joining Team Angel would have meant that she would need to accept vampires and all that and she wasnt ready to do that. I also think she hated Angel's "I'm the law" attitude, and saw it as an insult to her profession.xd

I like Kate at the beginning, but then she started to bother me. I don't believe she could have joined Angel investigations. She was still coping with the fact that vampires and other supernaturals exist. Her world was spinning out of control, and being around Angel and everyone would not have been the right move for her.

I wish we would have gotten better closure for her character because I liked her character most of the time, but I don't think she would've really fit in with Angel Investigations. It just wouldn't work IMO.

I think Kate's daddy issues are too big at this point for her to join AI. She has too much disdain for vampires and the world of demons and magic. Even though Angel as done so much good, she doesn't see him as an ally.

Kate really, really annoyed the crap out of me. I didn't care at all when she left...heh. Her constant whining about Angel's "kind" was so obnoxious and ridiculous. I really couldn't see her joining Angel Investigations either, she seemed to hate the supernatural world. Especially after her dad died.

What?? She leaves the show? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I am still at the half of the season now. I love her!!! NOOOOOOOOO.

Ahhh. Noooooo. ... Why Joss, why... 🙁

aww, poor you, dont worry as you progress in the season you may grow to hate her and be glad and if not then my condolences (although I never lost any sleep over it, infact I did a happy dance *sheepish*)
I think she could have, but I doubt she would want to be bossed around by a vampire. She seemed way too into her work for my tastes, and I don't think I would've liked the show as much had she stuck around. I liked her at first, but in my second rewatch, I don't like her that much.

I was okay with Kate when she first got introduced but really started to hate her when she found out Angel's secret and after her dad died, I know people may argue that grief isnt rational but she more or less blamed him when it was her father who put himself in danger(by dealing with such people, something she never acknowledged) and angel had tried to save him.

I f*****g loved Kate. Joss broke my heart when he didn't put her on the team.

If Kate hadn't left the show I would have loved to see her get so turned around that she joined Wolfram and Hart... It would have been interesting to see and could have given us a nice repentant final scene/ death scene between her and Angel
