If Sarah had just gotten the part of Cordelia, which she applied for... who, of the actress that auditioned, but ended up with other roles on the series, should have gotten the role of Buffy?

Course, if you have any other suggestions for actresses state them here.

I like Elizabeth Anne Allen. I think she's under-rated. I think she could do a lot with a break.

If the part was up for anyone though, I continue to say Scarlet Johansen.

I've just started watching Dawson's Creek on reruns, and I'm becoming a Michelle Williams fan. So, her too. (Although I think she'd be better as Willow)

Of those three i'd probably say Elizabeth just down to her being the right physical type to how i imagine Buffy.

If i could choose anyone at all though it would probably be Elisha Cuthbert. She is a really great actress and would have filled the role of Buffy really well i reckon!

I'm sure I read somewhere that Charisma auditioned for Buffy and Sarah was asked in for Cordelia but pushed to read for Buffy.

Don't quote me on that because i'm not quite sure.

See I knew Charisma auditioned for Buffy!! I read it somewhere too!!
Yes, that's true, check the IMDb trivia page for example.

I think Charisma could've taken the role of Buffy... if you look at You're Welcome and the tv-movie See Jane Date starring her, you'll notice the Buffy-potential I'm sure. She'd just be a brunette.

I really can't imagine anyone else as Buffy. Not even Kristy Swanson in the movie. But if I had to pick probably Elizabeth or Julie, but for me the only Buffy is SMG.

I agree about the Kristy Swanson remark too. Though I'd have to see SMG in such a bomb of a movie.
I think Sarah was definitely the best girl for the part. But, if I had to pick, I'd pick Julie Benz, since she's got that small, cute and blonde thing going on, which is similar to SMG.

Hmm...well out of the three, I would've gone with Charisma because I can picture her in the role of Buffy a lot more than I can Julie (sorry) but Elizabeth would've been a good choice too because she seems to exude that "slayer" attitude (don't ask, I know what I mean but I can't quite explain it!)
I can't picture anyone else though other than SMG herself and if the character "Buffy" absoloutely had to be a blonde, Charisma and Elizabeth could've easily just dyed their hair!

I would really love to see Jullie as Buffy but I'm sure I could think of someone else who would do better than her.

But no one could replace SMG...

It's just so hard trying to imagine someone else as Buffy, when I think Buffy SMG is what I see. But I'm trying really hard now and I think Charisma would be best of those three, Julie just got something about her that is too sweet and delightful and I don't really see the right attitude there..

I think SMG was the perfect match... But Charisma Carpenter might have been able to pull it off. Watching the early seasons, I forgot how funny Cordelia really was. Cordelia was great.

I picked CC... she just seemed the best out of the three. I can't really envision any of them, because we are all used to Sarah, but Charisma could've pulled off the slayer 'attitude' pretty well.

I'd go for Charisma. Because Sarah was originally cast as Cordy so they could've swapped. Although Sarah to me is the only Buffy I'd watch.

This is almost impossible to choose because each of the people have such an established character in the verse that its hard to imagine them as Buffy.....

I would say none....and vote for Christina Applegate instead....she would have made a tremendous Buffy....

Excellent points. All of our beloved characters are established by the determined actor. It's hard to imagine them in any other role!
