Illyria: Worst Character Ever?

I think he means that both Willow and Fred were overcome by this malevolent force of ultimate evil, but they got better. Well Illyria got better, and Willow returned to normal. Or, as normal as you can get after trying to destroy the world.

Illyria was a good character, but as much as it hurts me to say it, I think she should have been active for more of the show. Maybe in the Season 4 finale? Or maybe they could have split her in half, where Fred and Illyria split into two different people. It's interesting to see her adjust to this way of life that wasn't killing all the lower beings.

I just thought she was a lame character, way too sci-fi, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you LIKE sci-fi, but I don't think she "fit" in the show at all.

I don't think she was too "sci fi", really. To me, none of it seemed science-fictiony at all. It was definitely fantasy. A demon taking over a humans body, and she had super powers. There were no mutations or test tubes. I thought of it as, well, an ancient evil finding its way into a human form and then learning to cope with what its given.

Anyway, no, she's not the worst character ever. I'd place her above Kate Lockley--not that I have Kate-hate, I just, you know, thought she was boring sometimes. And I hated the episode with the... stick that made everyone super emotional.

I love Illyria because 1) Shakespeare, 2) her relationship (?) with Spike was funny, 3) she kicked some serious arse, 4) she looked awesome and I'm stopping with the numbers now, but Amy Acker's acting was also amazing. And the suit. And the way Illyria's arrival emotionally tore up the group, etc etc.

^kate was much more interesting than Illyria. 🙂

Really? I got a little tired of Kate after she refused to accept what was going on. Illyria made more sense for the story even though I still wanted Fred to be there.

She irritated me at first as well. I wanted Fred to stay. Though I will admit now she has grown on me.

She´s not THE WORST, but I had an inner fight cause I wanted Fred back too.. but.. man, Illyria was so funny and interesting.

There was other characters I hated more... So really I don't think she was the worst but I can see how someone who think she was.

I was so upset that Fred died (although "A Hole in the World" is my favourite episode of "Angel") that I initially didn't really like Illyria. But by the end of the season/series I was starting to think more of the character. After she found out her army was gone, she just seemed so defeated and lost. She was great in the last two episodes of "Angel." So no, I don't think she was a lame character.

I loved Illyria! I thought she was hilarious and added an Anya-esque humor to the team with her literal comments. Plus, Amy Acker is a fab actress, so I was just happy she got to stay as well.

After rewatching S5, I have to say I no longer hate Illyria. I'm still pissed off at what happened to Fred, but I see Illyria in a different way now and I no longer hate the character. 🙂 As you can see by my av/sig. 😉

Awwwwwwww at your av and siggy :)
I say if you want to be mad at someone for Fred's death blame Knox. He was the one really at fault.

For a person who generally hates anything science fiction, I LOVED Illyria and didn't see her as 'sci-fi' at all.
I loved Fred and I wished she hadn't died, but I loved Illyria too.

I thought Illyria looked super cool, I liked her character lot. I thought by that point in Angel they could get away with anything, after the craziness of season 4 and then taking over W&H, having Fred turn into Illyria didn't seem like a big deal. Other than the fact she had to die. Oh well, sacrifices have to be made. 😀

I think Illyria is one of the best characters ever, I can never see enough of her. plus she had terrfic lines all of the time.
besides, I was so sad to see Fred go that I just wanted her to remain in any way shape or form. for her to remain but began was beautifully heartbreaking all in itself
