Improving Season 7

How about this idea?: Dawn forms her own Scooby gang in the new Sunnydale High to investigate Hellmouth-related happenings around the school.
 
Less focus on the potentials. I don't really care for them much.... actually... How about forget the potentials all together and focus on Buffy, Willow, and Xander and develop them with Dawn, Giles, Faith, Anya and Spike as supporting characters. Those were the characters who I cared about and wanted to see. The potentials story line was a little too much and I wasn't a huge fan of the "every girl is powerful" message anyway - it was a little too heavy handed. They weren't terrible, but I feel like they were unnecessary and just added too many new characters.
 
Less potentials, especially the annoying black girl (Rona, I think?).

The annoying black girl? She was the only Potential that was annoying? Gee! I wonder why. Because she didn't want to automatically become one of Buffy's lap dogs . . . or what?

As I recall, Buffy was rather annoying that season.

Did you really expect Buffy's relationship with the Scoobies was going to return to the way it used to be, when they were in high school? Is that what you wanted? For their characters to remain stuck around the ages of 16 to 18? Especially after what the Scoobies - especially Willow - had done to Buffy around the beginning of Season 6? Did you want them all to remain stuck in perpetual adolescence . . . like Angel and his friends?

Have to say I don't like the tone of the above ^^. There's no need to be snide.

Their relationship didn't have to return to what it had been but it would have been nice if they would have been given more time to mend and heal what had been torn apart in that friendship that was once so great.

That friendship is a big part of the show and it was one of the elements that made the show work where otherwise it might not have. It's not ridiculous to want more of a return to those beginnings, especially during the last season, to remind us what was part of what made it strong to begin with.


As for the Angel and co comment I don't even understand the implication of them being stuck in adolescence
 
I just watched Show Time and OMG. I've forgotten how whiny and whingy the Potentials are! They certainly don't have a lot of faith in Buffy or respect for that matter.

Why do you think Buffy mending her friendship with her friends makes them stuck in high school? So, friendship is only meant to be in high school? You may not believe this, but I know a couple of people who are still best friends with their high school friends. Buffy, Xander and Willow aren't just high school friends, they fight evil together, that's something Buffy shares with them that she can't share with someone else. High school wasn't their only tie. If you're talking about normal high school kids who only share school, then I'd agree with you because once high school is over then their friendship is over. But it's different with the Scoobies, they share fighting evil and that's never over, unless Xander or Willow decides to leave and live a normal life like Oz did.
 
I don't think the Scoobie dynamics were wrongly depicted in season 7 - it's just that they weren't depicted much at all. In (most of) the first half of the season, there's actually a strong emphasis on those same dynamics (Buffy/Xander/Dawn and Willow/Giles in the first 2 episodes). 'Same Time, Same Place' and 'Selfless' in particular test their friendship. So when those two dozen girls suffering from PMS arrived on the scene, it's not like that friendship was lost, it just wasn't focused on much for the remainder of the season.

That being said, the season would've obviously been the better for it if they had continued to focus on that friendship.

I would wholeheartedly agree with this if I didn't love Faith and Fillion as Caleb.

Also as much fun as a slow and painful death for Spike would be, I still seen long, drawn out, eye rolling screen time happening...

For me the BIG thing that would have improved S7 is if Buffy had pulled the bug out of her ass and stopped taking herself so seriously. Oh and if Faith had smashed her head off after Buffy punched her outside the Bronze. Could totally have gone for that.

EDIT: Oh, oh I forgot! I really, really wish Buffy had been wrong about Caleb so that the Scoobies taking a stand wouldn't have seemed so outrageous.

Strawman much? So it's either being friends just in theory or being "stuck in adolescence"? Leaving aside the problem that Buffy and Willow behaved far more maturely in high school than in S7, it's very much possible for the Scoobies to be friends yet t ohave changed. heck, I am pretty sure they were supposed to be friends, only the execution was so sloppy that got totally lost amongst endless Spuffy scenes, Potentials and the First talking and talking and talking some more. If the writers wanted to maintain that the Scoobies didn't give a fig about each other I would have been disappointed but I that at least would have been a more honest approach to storytelling.
