For those who dislike or hate Season 7, in your opinion, what do you think would have made the season better for you to enjoy? Less Potentials? No First? Less Spuffy?

No Kennedy, less potentials in general and a bit more Caleb. I liked Season 7 though.

For those who actually liked Season 7, may we comment? I mean . . . if we have to make improvements for Season 7, I would like to see improvements for Seasons 1 and 2, as well.

To improve Season 7, the first thing that I would have done would have been to have Caleb introduced no later than Episode 3, He was fer too good a villain to only get a few episodes at the end of the season.
The second thing that I would have done would have been to eliminate the Spike torture element. We had that in Season 5 with Glory. Spike's tough, he can take a lickin' and keep on kickin'. Been there, done that. If someone just HAD to be tortured, let it be Kennedy, Rhoda, Dawn, or all three. Preferably all three.
I would like to have seen Buffy, Spike, and Faith team up against Caleb. They could have been right on the verge of beating him, only to have him rescued by the ubervamp (That would have been a much better way to introduce him) After seeing how powerful a force the combination of Buffy, Spike, and Faith really are, it recharges Caleb's batteries and supercharhes him.
When the Potentials and the Scoobies mutinied against Buffy, she, Spike, and Faith would have thrown the ungrateful b**tards out the door.
When Angel showed with the amulet, Buffy would have accepted his help immediately, then offered to let him sleep in her room. The smirk would have melted off of his face when she said, "You'll have it all to yourself. I'll be sleeping in the basement with Spike."
Angel should have worn the amulet into the hellmouth, and right at the end, when he was starting to first sizzle, Buffy would have taken his hand and said sincerely. "I love Spike, and not just as a friend. I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM, just in case any frustrted Bangles who are watching this might have any doubts as to just what I mean. There's help for them in Adopt-A-Bangel if they can ever wise up and just ask for it," then left him there to fry. (He would have come back the next season on his own show as a ghost anyhow, so there wouldn't have been much of a loss there.)
The final scene would have been the gang looking back at the hole that used to be Sunnydale and Buffy, with her arms around Spike's neck (standing in the shade cast by the bus, of course) whispers, "Wanta help me build an army?" Then they kiss and Giles bursts into tears (joy, or anguish? Only the future will tell)

Less potentials. I hated the whole concept really, it was a cheesy "every woman has the power within them" schtick. We didn't need a storyline spelling that out for us. It didn't help that most of them were ridiculously annoying.
I agreed with the mutiny, but I wish they hadn't undermined the mutiny by having them walk into that trap and suffer mass casualties. I think Buffy had to learn what it was to be a true leader, but because of what happened it vindicated Buffy as a leader. Which shouldn't of happened. She needed to show real growth.

Robin Wood should have been handled very differently; cut out that horrible trigger aspect and just make Spike's portion of the story his struggle dealing with the soul and Robin's plan for revenge. Have Robin approach Giles as he did on the show; after we've seen Giles be reproachful of Buffy's judgment about Spike. Not because of the trigger; but because of who he was.
When Giles responds; have him curtly instruct Robin that if he does anything that puts Buffy in danger; he'll bury him next to Ben. I'm all for Spuffy development; but not at the cost of the parental bond between Giles and Buffy.

I like Season 7, but the comment about focusing on the Core 3 is spot on, although i would have added Jiles to the Core 3. I'm a big Willow fan, and she's really not in Season 7. Even her big finale is a nothing.
Season 7 had so much potential (no pun intended), and they were so close to making it great.

Yeah, I liked Season 7 a lot more than I did Seasons 5 and 6. I thought it was usually entertaining if nothing else.
But it was disorganized, sloppily written, and had the wrong priorities. We needed to see more of the Core 3 (or 4, if you prefer) and less of the minor characters and newer characters.

I really liked the beginning episodes of s7, the "going back to the beginnings" aspect. I'm someone who didn't mind the Potentials plotline, I thought it was interesting & unique, but problematic in the sense that it just introduced so many more characters in the mix. I also don't hate Kennedy (hated Rona & some of the other wimpy/whiney potentials more), I just didn't see the need for Kennedy/Willow. I would have liked to have seen the development of Dawn's little group of friends, like the next generation of Scoobies. I agree with more Caleb. I don't mind the ending, I find Chosen inspirational, although we all know now that it was problematic in the scheme of things, and we see the ramifications of that in s8.
Also, it's not that Amber Benson didn't want to return as Tara, but that Joss wanted The First to appear as Tara to Willow in Help, and Amber didn't want Tara to be evil. I think it would've been more interesting to have Tara appear as a spiritual guide, like her role in Restless. That could've continued into s8 too!

I would have had all the Potentials killed by the Bringers, leaving Buffy and Faith as the only two surviving Slayers making the rest of the season the fight to keep Buffy and Faith alive and united long enough for them to find a way to stop the First. This way, we would have more of a focus on the main four (Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Giles).
And instead of Caleb working for the First, it would have been a Slayer who was activated at the time of Buffy's second death in The Gift and turned into a vampire. The combination of vampire and Slayer genes makes the Slayer immune to a number of things that vampires are vulnerable to like daylight. The First uses her as a physical conduit.

With all the ideas the writers had, I'd love if S7 was two seasons to explore all those ideas properly instead of rushingly.
1) More character interactions: Xander and Spike should have became friends, Spike and Dawn should have made up, Buffy and Willow should have dealt with their issues from S6, Xander and Anya should've had a clear arc about their relationship, Xander or Dawn should have been the ones helping Willow heal instead of Kennedy, Giles and Buffy should have made up.
2) The First should have appeared to the Scoobies as Buffy and played with their heads in order for the mutiny to make sense. Plus, creepy.
3) Keep Xander and Willow at the hospital when the mutiny happens. Maybe have Dawn be against the mutiny. Having Spike be the only one who believes in Buffy while everybody else are ungrateful meanies to poor Buffy looked like a silly Spuffy fic written by a 13 year old.
4) More build up to the whole gaurdian and amulet thing.

Agreed X1000. The latter I would have loved to see and should really have happened and the first would just have been interesting.
Agreed on all accounts. Especially more core four focus, would have lifted the season (and might've made me like Giles again. As it is I'm just indifferent to his character in s7. He doesn't feel enough like 'Giles' to me)

Did you ever read the book Tempted Champions? It was a brilliant non-cannon book based on a story-line that's pretty similiar to that, a Slayer turned Vampire. It was always a story-line I wanted them to explore in the show!

I think that Wood would have been much more interesting as an agent of the First Evil (he could have still been the son of Nikki Wood, still bent on revenge against Spike for killing his mother, still manipulated himself into the Principal's job with his own secret agenda, still convinced Giles that, for everybody's good, Spike would have to be killed, despite Buffy's protests, still be one of the mutineers in "Empty Places," still be... Now, wait a minute. Are we SURE that Wood was one of the good guys?) He would have made a great villain. As it was, he was just another spear bearer with a few good lines in Buffy's army. Having him revealed at the last moment (like maybe, him providing the information that led to Faith leading the girls into the trap and getting blown up instead of the Bringer) would have been a great last minute plot twist. Even better, having him have actually died in the bus, then his body becoming the First Evil's vessel, leading into the televised Season 8 that never happened, would have been even better.
