Inglorious Basterds

Okay, I finally watched the movie last night!

First of all, I'm glad I'm not in Germany anymore, so I had the opportunity to see the film with original voices. I heard that the dubbing is supposed to be really good, mainly because Tarantino actually stated at some point that he made this movie for the Germans, to relieve our all-time lasting guilt trip about WW2 a bit. But still, I think one of the brilliant things of the movie is that there's a lot of famous people from different countries, each speaking their native language whenever they are among their people, and occasionally talking a foreign language when they are talking to some else. That really gives a film a lot of authenticity, imo! And I wouldn't want the German dubbing to kill that off!
I do admit it was a bit tricky to watch this movie, for us anyway. In Belgian movie theatres, they give subs in both French and Dutch. While the German (of course) and mostly English was not an issue for the Germans among us last night, it was sometimes a bit hard to follow the French scenes. Just imagine a handfull of Germans with crappy school French and largely no knowledge of Dutch trying to get everything. I actually do speak Dutch, but I'm a bit of a slow reader, and especially paired with trying to listen to the spoken French it was just really hard to get everything sometimes. So, I guess, next time I'll get the English version, we're everything has English subtitles.

I really liked the movie! First of all, like I already said, lots of great names. I'm guessing to most of you the Germans in the movie weren't really THAT popular, but in Germany a lot of them (like Til Schweiger) really have made a name for themselves! Also, again, already mentioned, the language authenticity!
Time really flew by while watching, I couldn't believe this movie is over 2 hours long! The overal plotline was just really good!

Yeha i heard about how ze germans were totally dubbing it, that totally wrecks Tarantino's vision and really just ruins the authenticity of the movie.

I've seen Til Schweiger before, and the guy playing frederik zoller looks familiar, but i'll definitely look up the other works these actors have done, they were all great.

That's Daniel Brühl, and very possible you've seen him before. I think he gained most his fame with 'Goodbye Lenin', which is at least known outside of Germany. Plus, I think he was also in the Bourne Ultimatum.
 
Thats probably when i've seen him then, hes got one of those faces thats very familiar but you just can't pick out where you know them from 😀
 
I know, Quentin Tarantino talks and I know we've been hearing the possibility of KILL BILL VOL. 3 for quite some time now but hey, it's better to keep on hoping for something like that to happen way in the future than to actually hear about SHOWGIRLS 2 actually happening anytime soon.
Via Variety, Tarantino might wait a few more years until it's the 10th Anniversary of Kill Bill Vol. 2 before he deals with the third installment, in the meantime, there are a couple of other genres that he wants to tackle"¦

the filmmaker said he wanted to give Uma Thurman's central character and her daughter Beebe 10 years of peace before the next bloody installment, which would push the project to 2014.
In a conference alongside "Basterds" star Eli Roth, Tarantino said that there would be one film in between, saying he was "wide open" to his next project. Tarantino added that he would like to do a "re-imagining" of a number of genres including a Western or a 1920s to '30s "Pretty Boy Floyd" type gangster movie.

To be fair, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown were all gangster movies, they just weren't period gangster movies like Michael Mann's PUBLIC ENEMIES. I think a movie about Pretty Boy Floyd would be an awesome idea, he was played by Channing Tatum in Mann's movie, Floyd was shot and killed by FBI agent Melvin Purvis.
As far as Western, I'm surprised Tarantino hasn't made one after all these years claiming to be big fans of Spaghetti Western flicks, Tarantino co-starred in Sukiyaki Western Django which I highly recommend, a stylized fight of Samurais and guns, what an awesome movie with lots of dialogue too, just the way Tarantino likes it.
By the way, my friend Sebastian of Tarantino Archives has an info saying that INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS might arrive on Blu-Ray and DVD in some places before Christmas, head on OVER THERE for details.

A bit old but i forgot to post it here, i'd love to see a full on western.

Also, Tarantino has turned in to quite the pimp daddy if you know what im saying.

I got to (finally) watch the movie, in its OV although I live in Germany ;-) Found a "Programmkino" in COlogne that was playing it!!
The plot was great, the music very well chosen. I liked the way it showed how things trigger actions, how everything, although it seems to be different stories, come at some point together....
Would have Shoshana decided to put the cinema on fire if Landa hadn't been there?
I do agree with what was said before. I loved it that everybody talked in its mother tongue so I could watch the film without looking at the subtitles. I suppose, if you don't understand French, some "subtilities" might not have been translated. For instance, Shoshana used some words that you only use in a certain context and so on...

Anyway, great movie, wasn't bored a second and if I can I think I'd like to watch it once again 😀
 
to answer your question, yes i think she would have. I mean look at the way she treated Zoller, he was such a nice guy to her and she treated him like crap throughout the whole film just because he was german.

Well, between treating someone like crap and doing such a thing there is a big difference.... Maybe she would have chosen something more "moderate".... He... Anyway, I wish I will be able to see the movie again (and again, and again 🙄 )
 
I never go to the cinema but I managed to talk my girl into seeing Inglorious Basterds with me and I'm (and she is) so very very happy that I did. I have been a huge Tarantino fan for many many years and I did not expect this at all! My friend told me the movie was completely violent and brutal, which I didn't think at all, compared to his other movies. But oh so great. Again, I did not expect this! And the ending, I was so frakking surprised they pulled it off. Are you even allowed to end a movie like that!? Gah it was so awesomely satisfying!!

I couldn't agree more! But isn't this always the way it goes with Tarantino? Like even though you're a big fan you still think that the new movie wont be as good, but as soon as you see it, you realize you were way wrong.

I only got into tarantino about a year ago so this is the first time i was a fan and a new movie of his was coming out. I got so excited, for months i was telling everyone how awesome it looks but i was nervous as i thought maybe i overhyped it too much. Glad i wasn't wrong in the first place 😀
 
I love Inglourious Basterds. I left the theater honestly just wanting to walk right back in and watch it again.
